55 Fargo Posted January 4, 2010 Report Posted January 4, 2010 I was bored , I painted the red back onto my Chrysler hood and Trunk badges. I am wondering if the Model badges on the sides of the hood had any paint on those. On the Chrysler Hubcaps, the writing is in Black, plan to re-do these maybe tonight, I would imagine these are supposed to black on a Chrysler, and not red like a Dodge or Plym. Has anyone ever tired the Chrome spray bombs with any success, was thinking of painting my hoods front nose trim. It would propbaly costa $100 for rechroming, and I need to put the money elsehere on the car right now...............fred Quote
Young Ed Posted January 4, 2010 Report Posted January 4, 2010 Those are black. Just sold a set of 4 of those caps to a guy in our ply club chapter. Someone my Dad knows from church dug them out of his garage after storing them for like 50 years since his 48 chrysler left his ownership. For some reason he kept the hubcaps all these years. Quote
55 Fargo Posted January 4, 2010 Author Report Posted January 4, 2010 (edited) Thanx Ed, ever find another set, let me know as the caps I have now are froma 49, would like the oEM type someday, I will sue a chrome beauty ring with them, thats the look I am trying to achieve. The hub caps I have now are nice, got them from Bob Toft, but they aren't period specific to my car.........Fred Edited January 4, 2010 by Rockwood Quote
Young Ed Posted January 4, 2010 Report Posted January 4, 2010 Fred I can see how much the guy really wanted them. Or perhaps you could get his takeoffs. I'm pretty sure his car already has a set. Quote
Gary Manes Posted January 4, 2010 Report Posted January 4, 2010 Yes, the side trim pieces should be painted like the front and rear. The indention under "Chrysler" and the model name below that should be red. Wow!! I wish my coupes--New Yorker or Desoto--looked as solid as yours. Quote
55 Fargo Posted January 4, 2010 Author Report Posted January 4, 2010 (edited) Thanx for the ifo Gary, did you mean solid like in the pics.....Fred PS, the chrome center on the dash, where Chrysler is written, what color should thisbe, area painted around the Chrylser sign.... Young Ed Posted January 4, 2010 Report Posted January 4, 2010 The floor of my free 51 plymouth coupe. I ended up cutting it out all the way to the hump. It still needs the outer rocker attached. Quote
normanpitkin Posted January 5, 2010 Report Posted January 5, 2010 the dash centre on my 48 new yorker is painted black around the highlander script ,I assume as mine is an original black car .Perhaps other colours were different colours? Quote
BobT-47P15 Posted January 7, 2010 Report Posted January 7, 2010 (edited) Here's a pic from a local car, original with 49,000 miles. Not the best photo, but might help a little. Does your speedo have the crown? Dash --- I think this is inside the glove box door..... Edited January 7, 2010 by BobT-47P15 Quote
55 Fargo Posted January 7, 2010 Author Report Posted January 7, 2010 Thanx Bob, my dash parts, ie shiter knob, and lighter knob have the red paint on the little crown on the ends, I did this. My signal lasher knob does not have the crown, it must bea Desoto. The dash chrome above the radio, on mine is bare chrome right now, that I will not brush paint, will need to either leave it, or tape/mask and spray it dark blue, then go over the insrciption with lacquer thinner maybe to get paint off the key areas. I do not want paint flying around in the car anymore, with interior in place. I still have to paint the fluid drive signature on the stop lamp......Fred PS the hub caps came out not too bad Quote

BobT-47P15 Posted January 7, 2010 Report Posted January 7, 2010 I find it kinda amazing that Chrysler painted the emergency brake handle red. I like the brown of the Plymouth better.....doesn't jump out at you. Quote
55 Fargo Posted January 8, 2010 Author Report Posted January 8, 2010 I pulled the stoplamp housing and painted red around the fluid drive sign. Not really liking the results, there must bea better way than Testors red model paint and a very tiny brush, anybody else have any ideas.......Fred Quote
Frank Elder Posted January 8, 2010 Report Posted January 8, 2010 Fred you might want to ask pflaming/Paul, he did a good job on his hubcaps. I'm a looong way from painting accents! Quote
Gary Manes Posted January 8, 2010 Report Posted January 8, 2010 The indention under the word Chrylser should be a line of red paint, but the model name in scrypt below should be completely painted in red. Bob's photos covered the rest on the interior. The interior background was painted the same as the dash color with the words remaining chrome. I have photos, but do not want to learn how to post them. I have this thing with computers. Believe it or not I use to test programs for U.S. Customs in Washington. It was an ugly divorce, so I try to stick with on and off now days. Hope I was able to help. Quote
55 Fargo Posted January 8, 2010 Author Report Posted January 8, 2010 Thanx Gary, lots of playing around with these small details..........Fred Quote
