Jim Saraceno Posted December 11, 2009 Report Posted December 11, 2009 Sent them to Highline Plating in Cuba Missouri. I just got them back and they took my breath away! I'll be posting some pictures of before and after. They are nice and straight and smooth and a mirror-like finish on the front side. The only problem is it will make everything else look worse:D Mark Aubuchon, another forum member had initially told me about the place then I heard the same recommendation several times after that. I'm so exited.. I just had to share. Quote
greg g Posted December 11, 2009 Report Posted December 11, 2009 Jim be careful of the slippery slope. You test fit the bumpers and notice they make the brackets look shabby, you fix the brackets, and you notice the frame looks dingy, you fix the frame and the fenders need attention, you deal with the fenders and notice the hood could use a little TLC, pretty soon.............. 1949P17BC Posted December 11, 2009 Report Posted December 11, 2009 Jim, good to hear you are Happy! The place is a little scary, and Clifford and crew are a hoot! Good work reasonable prices Quote

Line in the sand stuff:rolleyes: Just a thought Jim. We discussed your "sprung" bumper brackets. If you are not careful when you re-spring them they could "chip and peel" the new chrome when you install them. If this happens moisture will get under the new chrome and cause slow oxidation. Quote
Jim Saraceno Posted December 12, 2009 Author Report Posted December 12, 2009 Before... After... (good thing I had my clothes on when I took this picture!) And this doesn't show how bent up they were. They are smooth and straight now. Just a thought Jim. We discussed your "sprung" bumper brackets. If you are not careful when you re-spring them they could "chip and peel" the new chrome when you install them. If this happens moisture will get under the new chrome and cause slow oxidation. I emailed Wayne Brandon who is the tech advisor for '35 Plymouths over at POC. He told me that it looked like I had a bumper from a coupe and the holes should line up with little or no tension. I went ahead and drilled a new hole in the bracket so that shouldn't be an issue. Quote
Joe Flanagan Posted December 12, 2009 Report Posted December 12, 2009 I think I'm going to start out with a handful of dash chrome. Maybe I'll ship it to these guys. Quote

How far is Cuba Mo from Kansas city mo the after pictues look great wouldn't mind the the drive for that kind of quality If its not too rude to ask how much for the pair the bumpers on my club coupe are straight but shabby Dale Quote
Don Coatney Posted December 13, 2009 Report Posted December 13, 2009 WOW! they look great. Now you will have to do a frame off restoration to match your bumpers. If you listen carefully you can hear the line in the sand moving:$$$$$$ Quote
jimwheeldon Posted December 13, 2009 Report Posted December 13, 2009 I'm curious , how much did it run for both bumpers? Quote
Jim Saraceno Posted December 13, 2009 Author Report Posted December 13, 2009 The bumpers were $275 each, I also had two bumperettes that cost $65 each and then I paid another $40 for each bumper to have the backs done. They clean and plated the back (they told me they had to plate the back twice because they were such a mess). They look okay but are nothing compared to the front. How far is Cuba Mo from Kansas city mo According to my mapping program it is about 235 miles (almost 4 hour drive). I'm sure you could ship them.WOW! they look great. I think I have her down to a ten footer by now:D Quote
Rodney Bullock Posted December 13, 2009 Report Posted December 13, 2009 hey Jim you won't be sorry. Plating both sides is the way to go. They look outstanding. The real test is if the car cover wears the chrome off them:) This is what happened to mine however my plater gurantees his work for life of the car. I love chromed parts:D I wish I had smething to send out. The chrome shop around here is looking for work. I would like to send my T-Bird bumpers but I am to busy to remove them:mad: Quote
Bingster Posted December 13, 2009 Report Posted December 13, 2009 Would I be accurate in assuming that a bumper for a '47 Desoto which is a lot beefier would cost more? In Des Moines I got a quote of $350 per bumper. Quote
