48Dodger Posted October 24, 2009 Report Posted October 24, 2009 I'm just curious. With the interest I have in Mopar small blocks, and the Dodge Pilothouse Trucks, I was wondering: How many of us here have a PH that has been modified to a V8 of ANY kind. Mine is a 408 stroker (originally a 360) I'm also working with Bryan aka "blohmiller" on his V8 set-up, and I've been on the phone with Bud aka "budstruck" talking about what he's working on. So while I was enjoying "51 fargo's" 1st rate burn out*.....the thought of V8's crossed my mind. Just for the record, I have nothing against the flat six. I plan on reviving the flat 6's in my 1949 1.5 ton and 1947 1.5 ton. 48D * http://www430.pair.com/p15d24/mopar_forum/showthread.php?t=18236 Quote
george c Posted October 25, 2009 Report Posted October 25, 2009 48D my 48 b1d is now Chev 350 400 turbo powered and 3/4 ton 4x4. It's still a work in progress though. George Quote
anthonyb Posted October 25, 2009 Report Posted October 25, 2009 Tim, I dropped a Poly 318 into my 52 B3FA with a four speed behind it. Probably won't help much though due to the 5.83 rear end. AnthonyB Quote
Reg Evans Posted October 25, 2009 Report Posted October 25, 2009 (edited) Anthony, I may have asked this question before but I was wondering if your poly 318 has the front motor mounts for a truck or a car. I have a 318 poly also but it has the front mounts and water pump for a car and I've been looking for the truck parts to make it work. Do you have any leftover parts that would work or do you know someone who does? Edited March 1, 2010 by Reg Evans Quote
Dave72dt Posted October 25, 2009 Report Posted October 25, 2009 Mine has a 318 bored 030 over, 9 to 1 compression, 340 cam, reworked iron heads, 727 trans, Ford 8" rear. Quote
anthonyb Posted October 26, 2009 Report Posted October 26, 2009 Reg, The engine came out of a 65 D400 truck so I'm presuming they're the truck version. You might want to check with Ron at Texas Acres. I know he had several Polys in his yard the last time I was over there. Don't remember seeing any motor mounts but he doesn't throw much away. Sorry. I don't have any spares that would fit a Poly. I used everything I got with the engine and tranny. Anthonyb Quote
Warren Nielsen Posted October 26, 2009 Report Posted October 26, 2009 Mid 70's Dodge 400 B block, 727 and Sure Grip 3.54s in an 8 3/4" rear end. Front suspension from a Volare, all in a 52 half ton Quote

And I think Reg meant to say 318...not 381. Am I right? 48D Edited October 26, 2009 by 48dodger Quote
Bob_Koch Posted October 26, 2009 Report Posted October 26, 2009 Before I got my truck it had been converted to a Poly 318. But the engine was cracked during a deep freeze we had one winter. So I am installing a 360 that came from a 72 dodge van. Backed with a 518 tranny. Quote

When you say reworked heads, do you mean you milled them for compression and added larger valves ( ie 1.88 or 2.02)? I like the milled 360 heads with the 1.88 intake 1.60 exhaust and domed Kieth Black pistons(KB167)/ on a 318 block. Gives about 10:1 comp and plenty of HP for the money. From what I've read latley, going up to 2.02 doesn't seem to make a lot of difference on a daily driver. 48D Edited October 26, 2009 by 48dodger Quote

In 57 and 58 they were 315 Poly's. 56 was a 269, 55 was a 259, and 54 was the first truck V8 which was a 241 poly. Bob, do you still have the cracked 318 ? Andy, do you have the contact info for the place in Texas ? Quote
Bob_Koch Posted October 26, 2009 Report Posted October 26, 2009 Reg, the poly 318 is long gone. So is the cast iron 727 that was connected to it. Quote

But alas in my part of the country they are rare as hens teeth for less that a grand. Plus I had a '79 Chev sitting around collecting dust so I finally gave in to practicality over the what I really wanted to use. No hostilities from me I just hope I can still find one I can afford then at least the engine and trans will be gone. George Quote

"Wildcat Auto Wrecking" Those guys are very helpful...emailing photos of what they got and updating thier website fairly often with new arrivals. I'm sure changing the engine is last on your list, but you might find something you need in the future. http://www.wildcatmopars.com/index.htm 48D Quote
george c Posted October 28, 2009 Report Posted October 28, 2009 Too late Bud, I've already boxed the stock frame and made new cross members for the engine trans and transfercase. The cab is sitting on a cart now so I can do a little body work. I have a real nice 9' flatbed to go on it with side racks. However it would be no problem for the forseable future to replace engine trans and transfercase! Dodger I spent 30 years in Portland and never heard of this wrecking yard? And I spent about 10 of those in the towing business. I may have to do some looking at that link, although its 190 miles over the mountains and we had a few inches of snow this morning so a trip might have to wait until spring? Go ahead and vote me off the forum but I still have a few all MoPar trucks around here and a collection of Scoopmobiles that all run Chrysler Industrial flathead sixes. George Quote
48Dodger Posted October 28, 2009 Author Report Posted October 28, 2009 Hey George, If my memory serves me, they moved to the current location about 10 years or so ago. Maybe they don't bother to advertise locally? I found them when I was building my 72 Charger years ago. 48D Quote
george c Posted October 30, 2009 Report Posted October 30, 2009 What's a scoopmobile? Well its a three wheeled loader. In fact the Wagner Bros invented several machines including the Scoopmobile the articulated machine and the log skidder. Very clever guys, the Wagner mining machines still carry their name. Here are a couple of picture of some of mine. George Quote
george c Posted October 30, 2009 Report Posted October 30, 2009 Dodger, I moved out of Portland about 12 years ago so that could explain it. Back to topic here are a couple pictures of mine. George Quote
48Dodger Posted October 30, 2009 Author Report Posted October 30, 2009 (edited) Looks great George...with that much GM iron, you'll have more Chebby fans ticked than Dodge...lol. Looks like a Dana 60/Dana 44 axle set up. Is that a 208 transfer case? The larger tire set up made me think of clearance. Just thinking out loud here, but maybe 1.5 ton fenders would work better than the 1/2 to 1 ton style. Either way, you've put some work into. 48D Edited November 1, 2009 by 48dodger Quote
george c Posted November 1, 2009 Report Posted November 1, 2009 48dodger I would like to find some 1 1/2 ton fenders. As usual I'll just keep on searchin. George Quote

The cam makes a 340 sound good, makes a 318 sound great. Quote
