Chester Brzostowski Posted September 2, 2009 Report Posted September 2, 2009 Congrats Bob! I would like to try out a week with 6 Saturdays and a Sunday myself but I have another 4 or 5 years to work. Of Course the way things are going I might get the opportunity sooner then latter and not necessarily on my time table. Enjoy, Chet… Quote
Plymouthy Adams Posted September 2, 2009 Report Posted September 2, 2009 years ago I had hoped for an early out incentitive from my employer..I paid off my mortgate etc etc and look at me, it is some 7 years later and still nothing coming down the pike for an incentitive..since then I am now two years past my normal retirement date and going strong..I have my miltary reserves retirement behind though so that is a plus..with all the work I have and do at the house, I can't aford to retire...gotta come to work to get a break..(not that I don't do anything, it is just not physically demanding like stuff at home) Quote
Jim Saraceno Posted September 2, 2009 Report Posted September 2, 2009 AND another congrats from eastern MO. I hope to be retiring in another year, maybe we'll have time to make a trip to meet in mid MO for a Plymouth outing sometime. BTW... The it's easy to tell if it's Shinola when it's black... It's the brown Shinola that always fools me:D Quote
Robin (UK) Posted September 2, 2009 Report Posted September 2, 2009 Good luck in your retirement, Bob. Now you'll have even more time for the important things in life... You family, your Plymouths, and rock'n'roll!!! Quote

Poised for retirement, bought the retirement house this year just can’t cut the purse strings. Retirement doesn’t mean that you have to give up making money I think you just need to do something that isn’t as demanding as the current day job and maybe more fun. Maybe a week of 4 Saturdays and a Sunday. My retirement house is rural and taxes are just under a $1,000 per year. Almost there and maybe soon I can check out of the Rat Race. Maybe in a couple of years when housing prices are a little better I will sell the Virginia house which will pay of the debt on the retirement home then I will be into the program. The thing that scares me is after work there is only one bench mark left and I don’t know if I am ready to wait that one out. Good luck with your retirement plans I think mine are coming together. God help us to remain healthy to capture the joy of the golden years. The Woodstock Generation unfortunately is still taking drugs, Viagra, Zantac, & Aricept God help us all, Chet… Quote
Captain Neon Posted September 3, 2009 Report Posted September 3, 2009 Wish we had property taxes like that here. For a house with that kind of taxes here it would have to valued at about $40' date='000 or so. I know that's not the case in Virginia and other places down south though. Have relatives in Louisville who live in about the same size and priced home I do, but their taxes are only less than a third of what we pay. We went over the $1,000 mark way back in 1974 or 75. You guys have it made down there with those kinds of taxes.[/quote']Thank you for reminding me again why I didn't take that job in Kenosha. Quote
Plymouthy Adams Posted September 3, 2009 Report Posted September 3, 2009 Norm..we are not paying for the yard nazi's to patrol the neighborhood looking to whiz in on anyones pleasure..our taxes are on teh rise..as less government funds get kicked down to the state level, the state has to increrase its tax base, reale state value or millage rate and SPLOST..most of the time they do all four at the same time..its for the kids...its about time someone gets a vasectomy..I'm tired of footing the bill for everyone's snot nosed whiny kid.. greg g Posted September 3, 2009 Report Posted September 3, 2009 It not the teacing methods, the biggest three problems are standardized tests, the students, and the parents. Teaching to standardized tests mean that no real education is going on, the ciriculums (sp) are designed to ensure that certain basic knowledge usually without any true understanding, can be reguritated come test day. Weather the students are good test takers or not, weather the students have demonstrated an aptitude for being able to read the questions. The students especially in urban areas have absolutely no interest in what is being trying to be taught to them because it has become politically correct homoginized pablum, aimed to the achievment of passing a test. The parents have abdicated an responsibility for the most part of their childrens attendence to ar behiavior at scholl and are certainly less tha interested in their childrens progress unless they are at one end non achievers or the other high achievers of the spectrum. OH CRAP!!!! Never mind. Taxes here on my little middle class abode are 300 a month. Supporting the schools that did our average achieving daughter little good. Our school district has dedicated itself to churning out classes of high achieving kids who get accepted to the prestigious Liberal Arts Colleges of the land. They get accepted there on the basis of their high scores on standardized tests, and they go there, but fully 70% can't cut it and end up back here clogging up the Community college system. Our average offspring, on the other hand started her academic career at the local CC, then actually graduated from a well known upper level institution (at close to half price I might add) Hey Bob here is an idea, go to your local community college and teach a class in garage band rhythm and theory........... Any way have fun, and don't get bittered out like the rest of us curmudgeons................ Quote
BobT-47P15 Posted September 3, 2009 Author Report Posted September 3, 2009 Hmmm.....so far, been no time for a nap. Have taken the Mrs's car to the shop for new front brakes. Arranged to get new tires put on the Caravan Friday. Run numerous errands. Been to the hospital twice so far to see a lady friend who was in a car accident a couple days ago -- pulled out in front of someone & was hit on the drivers front fender and door. Has some broken bones and other assorted injuries. Have to go to Bella Vista, AR again this Friday afternoon/evening for a music gig.....50 miles each way. Play music again Sat afternoon/ evening. We go eat supper out with another couple on Thursdays.....getting close to time for that........ Otherwise, it's been a few days of leisure. Quote
