I have tried studing old posts and I think I understand what will fit but I want to double check given the huge non refundible cash out lay. Its kind of like cheating off of someone who has taken the test in the period just before my turn. Did not due it in school but would appreciate the help now.

I am looking at buying from Wheel Vintuqes (recomended in previous threads) and it looks like this size will fit my 47' P-15. Once again I very mush appreciate the information!

Rim Size: 15 x 6 Bolt Circle: 5-4 1/2 Rear Spacing: 3 3/4

I am running 225 on the rear on WV 5 inch wides. On hard right hand turns I will some time get a bit of tire to fender rub, but my spring bushings are pretty shot. And I only oticed it when there is a lot of weight in the car/trunk.

Greg........lol.......to give you an idea what it costs here in Oz, the 4 chrome smoothie rims were $700.00 the set.......but the tyres were $395.00 each for the fronts and $420.00 each for the rears.....plus $20.00 each shipping the 1500kms up to me......then only $60.00 the lot for fitting & balancing...........$2470.00.......lol...why I even have change from $2500.00..........and believe me I DID shop around.........andyd

Andy - hope you didn't spend all that change at once!?

As you and I well understand, the costs to make anything compatible with cars located 'down-under' are underestimated by many. Especially wheels and tyres which need major work in order to be used upside down in OZ...:D

Educated Rectum...........lol.......it may have been cheaper to ship the car to the US, buy & fit the rims & tyres there and ship the car back..........maybe not but you get my drift.........lol.........oh......and I forgot to add the cost of a wheel alignment to make sure the gold plated tyres don't wear out too soon.......andyd

and remember by comparison it takes 1.4 NZ dollars and about 1.2 Aus dollars to = 1 USD. Even with the conversion that still 1700 bucks for wheels tires and alignment.

Sheeeeesh.

WOW I was so focused on bolt pattern offset and look I did not even see the main description. I am looking for something custom like they appear to be. I wonder what makes a wheel a trailer wheel vs a car wheel?

Posted

Trailer wheels might not be engineered to take the side forces generated through the front wheels of a car. I know trailer tires are designed for different forces and loadings than car tires. But wheels????? Who knows?

What I'm about to say comes from someone else' date=' I'm just repeating what I was told. Not even sure that person was correct. But........

Several years ago I bought something either from an ad or from someone on ebay. The guy owned an auto shop and was into restorations. I had to call him for some reason during the transaction and we got into talking about old cars and modern aluminum wheels. Here's what he said in so many words.

He said he had seen people put modern aluminum wheels on cars like ours that had lug bolts instead of nuts. Said the lug bolts do not seat proper on aluminum wheels. So.....over time the lug hole in the wheel gets larger and the wheel will loosen because of it. Said he had even see people lose wheels while driving their cars using the aluminum wheel with lug bolts instead of nuts.

So........that's what he said. Personally, I don't know if he's right or wrong. Never really checked into that since I wasn't interested in using aluminum wheels on my coupe. So........take it for what it's worth. But........I'd probably check with some people who actually make the wheels before I made a decision, if I wanted to use them.[/quote']

Before I installed disc brakes I converted my drums to use studs. The drums on the right were ok and I put 2 more right drums on the left. I used screw in studs I got from a local speed shop, think they were made by American Racing. The studs have a shoulder on them that only allows them to go in so far. Put some locktite on them and never had a problem. Still running them in the rear.

Norm & Tim, from what I can work out the main cost is the actual freight, any duty would be no more than 10%, but freight would be the killer......I've checked the Coker website and from memory the US dollar price was roughly half the Oz dollar figure, even allowing for the exchange rate which at present is around .83 oz cents to the US dollar..........shipping ain't cheap......btw heres some pics of the car & wheels/tyres.......andyd
