grey beard Posted July 16, 2009 Report Posted July 16, 2009 Sometimes I sit and think. Then again, sometimes I just sit . . . . . . The things I plan for and want don't always happen. I'm old enough to have learned to accept all this. Then again, sometimes they work out just okay, too. My plan was to have the Pilothouse finished for the Macungie show. After the show, I planned to really blow my filthy shop out, clean it up and paint everything that didn't move or talk back. Remember, I did all the body and paint work in this place, as well as the engine overhaul, brakes, etc., etc. during trhe past three and a half years. Saying it needed cleaning would have been a masterful understatement. Welllllllll, the week after the Macungie show, I and my small helpers - three grandchildren - names Luke, Natalie and Mason, ages 7, 9 and 11 respectively, cleaned out the cave. Got rid or a lot of stuff, threw a buncha' stuff out, and otherwise improved on the mess. THEN, we slung eight gallons of paint onto bare cement block walls - primer and two-tone finish in glossy white and brown. Finally, after a whole lot of deliberation between epoxy paint, vinyl tile and so forth, we put down three gallons of cement stain in dark green. Here's how it looks right now, while it's still too fresh to drive on. Wish I could say it will stay like this, but we all know better. Soooo, I took these pictures to remember when it was still fresh and clean. Kids learned how to paint, too. That stainelss steel top on my old bench? Well, my hand musta' slipped . . . . . . It was fun, but I know grandpas always have to pay the piper some time. Mebby I could pay them in ice cream cones . . . . . . Quote
Vintrader Posted July 16, 2009 Report Posted July 16, 2009 Very nice Dave. I think the Frig and Rocking Chair are key items in any ones shop. I am lucky that when I leave AZ in the spring, I just lock the door and don't have to think about it again until late fall. Dutch Quote
Young Ed Posted July 16, 2009 Report Posted July 16, 2009 Vin love the little met. I keep telling the GF she needs one of those. Quote
greg g Posted July 16, 2009 Report Posted July 16, 2009 Tell me about the studebaker truck in the foreground, 57? Quote
Merle Coggins Posted July 16, 2009 Report Posted July 16, 2009 Lookin' good Dave. Now that you've got your crew trained, send them over to Wisconsin. I could put them to good use here. So, the rocking chair's there for you to sit and stare at your truck when you can't drive it due to inclement weather? Dutch, I'm jealous. How do you decide which Righteous Rolling Relic to take for a spin every day? Merle Quote
Don Coatney Posted July 16, 2009 Report Posted July 16, 2009 Dave; Shop looks great. Way too nice to park your dirty ol truck in:eek: Quote
grey beard Posted July 16, 2009 Author Report Posted July 16, 2009 Don, That little detail you may have overlooked was the spittune next to the rocker. Is it true, what they say about level-headed Tennesseeans having bakkey' juice at both corners of their mouths? Actually, the rocker belongs inside - just sitting there when I took the pic and I knew someone would pick up on that feature. Actually, this shop face-lift should outlast me. Methinks the Pilothouse was my last project of any magnitude. Had it not been for a kind younger brother (Paul, the (gulp) streetrodder), who can still see better'n me, the truck would still likely be in pieces. Fading eyesignt was definitely NOT one of the things I planned to look forward to in the golden years - whatever they are. Go figger . . . . . . Quote

Here in Tennessee we thin backy juice with shine so the spill over is not visible. Quote
MBF Posted July 17, 2009 Report Posted July 17, 2009 Dutch-that looks like a good place to break in to! What months did you say you weren't there? Quote
Jim Roach Posted July 17, 2009 Report Posted July 17, 2009 Dave, Your shop looks great. The last time I was there you were into your truck pretty good so everything was a mess. That is not ment to criticize, just a fact when we are in the middle of working on a project. Your truck looks good and now you have a cool. clean place to park her. Great job Dave. Jim Roach Quote
Vintrader Posted July 19, 2009 Report Posted July 19, 2009 The Metropolitan was a stock 57 and not exactly what I would call roomy for me. The Studebaker was a 59 (Slightly Modified) And Mike, that picture is from a couple of years back. Every one have moved on to new owners. I am not sure I have one of this years Crop. Quote
