greg g Posted June 30, 2009 Report Posted June 30, 2009 There have been a couple discussions about the possibility of putting a slant 6 into an early MOPAR, and what modifications would be necessary. At yeaerday's regional MOPAR gathering, this 50 showed up with a /6 and torqueflite trans. No firewalls were harmed in this intalllation. Obviously the radiator was moved forward and the fan deleted in favor of a pusher. The heater ducting was also changed, and or the heater was changed. I did not ask regarding that. A new cross member was fabricated to the support of the trans and rear of engine. Did not inquire about the mods to the engine as the car was purchases as it sits. So for those thinking of this alternative, hopefully these pics might be of some inspiration or assistance. Quote

greg g Posted June 30, 2009 Author Report Posted June 30, 2009 Tell me about your user name Jeff, (Resin Jeff) I am looking to reproduce some Studebaker headlight trim rings in plastic. I bought a molding kit a qouple years back but haven't done anything yet. The piece I have to make amould out of is broken and that has stymied me. Quote
Normspeed Posted June 30, 2009 Report Posted June 30, 2009 Looks like a pretty clean swap Greg. The Torqueflight would be a nice setup. Now maybe a turbo..If nothing else, those slant sixes are nice looking:D:D Quote
dezeldoc Posted June 30, 2009 Report Posted June 30, 2009 (edited) My P-15 had a /6 in it when i got it also, no cutting on the firewall but they cut the right fender well where the alt was. had the stock crossmember for the torqueflite trans with square tube used as the rest of the mounting for the frame side. the motor was so tired the pistons would swap cylinders! rolliejoe Posted June 30, 2009 Report Posted June 30, 2009 since when did /6's become "uncheap"? Most of the time they're hard to give away. Quote

aero3113 Posted July 1, 2009 Report Posted July 1, 2009 I do not think that is a 50 Plymouth. What do you guys think? Quote
greg g Posted July 1, 2009 Author Report Posted July 1, 2009 UH I was guessing, it might be a 51/52. I knew it was not a 49. Quote
JerseyHarold Posted July 1, 2009 Report Posted July 1, 2009 It is a '51 judging by the rear fender mud guards. '52's were smaller. Quote
Young Ed Posted July 1, 2009 Report Posted July 1, 2009 Also a 51 by the block letter name plate on the front fender. 52s were script Quote
JerseyHarold Posted July 1, 2009 Report Posted July 1, 2009 And let's not even mention the hood ornament with the bow wave....'52's had a slower Mayflower without the wave Quote
