Hi everyone,

I have a question, but i don't know the word for the part in english, so here is the description of what i'm trying to talk about.

I think it may be running-boards, is the part that is under the door when the door is closed... on the image the thing that goes where those two wood sticks are. What the car had was a metal sheet with a kind of rubber mat over it, i think it is the original thing. The problem is that the metal part is very rusted, some parts have disappeared because of rust, and the rubber is also in quite bad shape, and some small parts are missing...

Is there any place to buy (over internet and with international delivery, i'm in Uruguay) this things new? (aside from having the luck to bump into them on ebay)

Any other solution to this? as not having them would not be a good idea...

Thanks!

I believe you are referring to the Thresholds..these babies are rubber coated metal..these treadplates are being re-popped but I did not write down by whom...they are very expensive..I am thinking in the 500.00 plus arena..

I have seen these on e-bay at times also...maybe someone can comment on who/where the re-pops are being made.

Door sill plates, threshold mats, whatever they are called a company called Hunley Acuff in Georgia reproduced them or will redo the rubber on yours if the metal is still in good condition. The address is in the links section of the old forum host page

Federico, it must be a challenge to fix up an old Mopar, living in Uraguay! If you're not doing a full restoration, You might use the old parts for patterns or templates, and create something nice that will work. I like woodworking myself. Has anyone ever tried making some wood sill plates?

Norm, I like woodworking too and it would probably be easy to duplicate the sill plate in wood. Don't think it would hold up very well though. That's where the water drains out of the doors at the bottom.

I would think a piece of "oak" or Ash wood, even Walnut would last a very long time IF you kept it sealed and finished(all sides and ends). Might scuff a bit,BUT if you learn not to use it for a step and step over it,might last and look good too!! Could even 'carve' it a bit for added p-zaz

...and selling them on ebay periodically. They don't have the steel core that Hunley uses, and people are setting them in place with silicone adhesive. The advantage is they run about $200 less than Hunley's. Hunley did mine and I'm VERY happy with them. Worth it if you don't mind paying $450, however, the new company's product looks factory correct and sells for about $275 for a coupe set.

Wasn't aware of the sill plates you seal down with silicone like David Maxwell mentioned. However, if you seal down the sill plate, how do you tuck your rubber floor mat or carpet under it like it's supposed to be done. In the rear you don't have to keep pulling up the mats or carpet. In the front, you have to do it to check your master cylinder fluid. That could be a lot of extra work to unseal the sill to pull up the front floor mat or carpet each time you checked the MC.

When I spoke with Hunley around four years ago, he told me he was charging around $450 for a 4-door and around $400 for a coupe because, as he put it, there wasn't much difference between the work he put into a 2-door or a 4-door and the coupe door sills were so much longer that there really wasn't much difference in the amount of materials either. Perhaps the new competition has forced him to re-evaluate his pricing.
