First time for everything (OT) Hockey

The wife got us ticket to the local CHL hockey team - Corpus Christi Rayz. We check them out a half dozen times a year.

In the middle of the third period one of the visting Rocky Mountain Rage players was put through the glass behind the goal. We were in the 4th row about 20 feet to the right of the check.

Have to say, it is something I have never seen in person & was pretty darn impressive. The little old couple with glass and a hockey player in their lap didn't find it as cool. Luckily, everyone was okay.

Sure beat the Symphony we went to last weekend. Not a single cello player even hip-checked anyone.

Go Oilers Go! As in Edmonton Oilers. I live closer to Calgary (Flames) but have been a big Edmonton Oiler fan since the early '80's and before they won their first Stanley Cup. Have now won six and came within one game last year of winning it again. Go Oilers Go!

Here in Manitoba, people have been pining since the Winnipeg Jets (NHL) went to Phoenix to become the Coyotes, we have a really beautiful brand new Arena, the MTS Center, it's in the category of the arena in Grand Forks ND, and that one is beautiful. We now have the Manitoba Moose IHL hockey club, but it is not NHL quality. At least were getting a new Dome/field for our CFL football club, the Winnipeg Blue Bombers, of the western division.

And the battle of alberta is raging on tonight, both on the board, and on the ice.....

You got a Canuck fan on this side of the country here (I've been a fan of Luongo ever since he played for our local junior team.....)

Why am I not surprised that the first hockey thread that I see in here gets taken over by Canadians?...:)

Cause we don't see any football or baseball threads, so they can't be taken over by americans.... or soccer threads that could be taken over by the rest of the world..... :D

I always tried to set behind the glass. A few years ago in Columbus, OH a puck went over the glass and struck a young girl in the right eye area. She died quickly. Tragic

I believe shortly after that they started putting up the netting above the glass at the ends of the ice. Generally when they clear the glass at the sides they don't have as much velocity.

My local team is the Milwaukee Admirals, part of the AHL. Used to be in the IHL. The closes NHL team is the Blackhawks, but I have a real hard time rooting for a Chicago team. :P

They've been pretty good the past few years. They won the Calder Cup a couple of years ago, and lost in the championship series last year. It's hard to keep up with the players since about the time they get real good they get sent up the the NHL. It's also a shame that they don't play a lot of the games on local TV. I think the last Admirals game I saw on TV was when I was in Ontario, in December, and they were playing the Toronto Marlies.
