Does anybody have a factory photo of a '47 era Desoto S-11 with skirts or even a Dodge or Plymouth with factory skirts? There seems to be various designs in aftermarket skirts and I'm curious as to what a factory skirt looks like.

To my knowledge, there were NO "factory" fender skirts for any of the

models. They were always aftermarket items. None are shown in my

parts manual for the era.

One popular brand of skirts was Foxcraft. I'm sure there were some

others, but don't know names. Styles were often similar, but had

certain differences.

My skirts are pretty straight on the bottom edge.

Some, like on Norm's coupe and Robin's vert are a little

different.

I know for my 39 Desoto they are listed as fender shields and not as fender skirts. Just like the headlight trim rings these are known as headlight doors. so knowing the older terminology which seems strange to us now willhelp with locating the parts in your parts manual.

I know for my '38 Chrysler there were factory fender skirts (shields) with a stylize Chrysler wing attached. Guess they dropped the idea for the later cars in the 40's and early 50's. Never been a fan of fender skirts so haven't actively looked. Did see one at a swapmeet once but it did not have a mate and it was pricey.

You should have jumped on that Robert.

People only see one side of your car at a time when driving down the street.

Good one, Bob. Next time I'll be over it fast and if I see two I can sell one as I won't need it.:P

On a similar, but different note, on my midnight blue P15 coupe owned back in the

1970s, I had a pair of skirts.

Not a matched pair, however. They were just a bit different from one another, but

not much. Evidently no one ever noticed that fact. I finally took them off and sold

them separately when I decided to sell the car. Also sold off the painted

Chrysler wire wheels.

Wish I still had that car now.....but, oh well.

It was a good one. (old photo)

First time I've seen a chrome set of that style.

Wonder if they were done by the manufacturer, or by an owner and

a chrome shop.

Dude!! I dig the chrome!

How do you like them??
