Captain Neon Posted May 7, 2009 Report Share Posted May 7, 2009 I hate to sound purist, but it seems terribly wrong to me that non-MoPar vehicles are permitted to show at what has been billed an all-MoPar (WPC) show. I must be getting old if a late 80s Chevy Caprice is now considered a show car. My father-in-law runs a MoPars-only show in Clifton Park NY (Capital Area Mopars), and is pretty lenient about the MoPars-only rule (Ford body/MoPar engine-OK, MoPar body/GM engine-OK, AMC-OK, Hudson-OK, Packard-OK, etc). However, he has had to return entry fees and turn folks away that want to show their non-Mopar vehicles. What part of MoPars-only do these Ford and Chevy guys not understand? Norm's Coupe Posted May 7, 2009 Report Share Posted May 7, 2009 Ben, Was it the fact that the Chevy was an 80's Chevy or that it was just a Chevy? I agree with you that if it's an all one marque show, that's the only cars that should be there. However, it really doesn't hurt if an off marque car is there, it just can't be judged. If it's also the 80's car that you disagree with. Well.........lets face it, these were not the cars we grew up with. But.......they are still over 20 years old if before 1989 and therefore are now considered a classic car. We will just have to get use to seeing those cars at shows, because that's what a lot of the younger generation is collecting and restoring now. Our cars are no longer classics. It is just hard to visualise the car that most of my parents' friends drove to get groceries as a show car this soon. Now an '84 Buick Grand National or an '84 Pontiac Firebird TransAm that's a whole other story, but for a grocery-getter they need to be at least 35 years old, IMHO. Perhaps if a category for non-WPC were provided, direct comparisons of the different makes, should anyone care to do that. Most importantly,though, it seems that the folks who put as much work into their rides as we put into ours get a minor opportunity to show the fruit of their labors. The WPC Club is a nation wide club, much like the POC, but for all Chrysler product owners. There is a fairly large active chapter in the Chicago area, and they no doubt organized that show. They recognise all the various makes and models of car and trucks that have been associated with the Chrysler family. They have a very nice monthly newsletter that is printed on glossy paper and a lot of technical articles. A lot of work goes into each edition. I have been a member for several years. It may just be called the Walter P Chrysler car show, as it is at a local chrysler dealer, and not be affiliated with the WPC club. Or it could be put on by the local WPC club if there is one. Northern Illinois Region Swap Meet and Car Show. Held at Larry Roesch Chrysler. More info to follow. Then I found the club regions homepage. Looks like this is just a local car show and swap meet put on by the Northern Illinois Region of the WPC club. Rodney Bullock Posted May 7, 2009 Report Share Posted May 7, 2009 I don't want to sound like a purist but I like the one make show. I like seeing all the models and years of a single make. You all might know from my posts that I go to a Studebaker swap meet every year. All parts all cars all trucks are Studebaker. They have them all pver the country.I would like to see all the Orphan makes do this in the future. It would be easier to find parts and make connections. I invited Don to a show here in Rockville where you could see just about every make of car there was, this was a great show. We only have about 4 shows like this around here. I would love to see a Pontiac show. Well maybe it's me but I like to see how the mind of the designers changed over the coarse of about 15 years. This gives me great joy.
