RobertKB Posted April 27, 2009 Report Posted April 27, 2009 Found this on the local Kijiji site. It is actually pretty close to me and I think a reasonable price. The broken axle kind of scares me but I imagine they aren't too hard to come by or replace? Not sure what I would do with it except use it as a parade vehicle. I am tempted but not overly so. http://lethbridge.kijiji.ca/c-cars-vehicles-classic-cars-1955-Dodge-4x4-military-M152-panel-radio-truck-Power-Wagon-M37-W0QQAdIdZ123484374 Quote
RobertKB Posted April 27, 2009 Author Report Posted April 27, 2009 No, it does not come with the trailer. Now that would be a buy and a half just for the trailer and then the Power Wagon would be free! Quote
greg g Posted April 28, 2009 Report Posted April 28, 2009 vintage power wagon prolly has the parts it needs. You could use it for plowing gardens.... Quote
RobertKB Posted April 28, 2009 Author Report Posted April 28, 2009 It wouldn't fit in my garden. I would just like it because it has a flattie in it. Don't need; just want kinda. Quote
Brendan D25 Posted April 28, 2009 Report Posted April 28, 2009 So Robert I guess you didn't bother with the 32. Quote
RobertKB Posted April 28, 2009 Author Report Posted April 28, 2009 Hi Brendan, no I passed on that and am glad I did. Too much work. I looked at that car on Highway 21 you mentioned. It is a '54 Plymouth but the owners were not home. Try again in the summer. Would like a Power Wagon but really have no use or need for it. I'll just spend my money maintaining what I have. Quote

I restored one about 6 years ago and it was a great learning experience. Parts can be had pretty cheap and I can steer you in the right direction. I still have all the manuals on CD that you are welcome to have a copy of if you decide to buy it. I also have the pullers you need to change out those axle bearings when you replace that axle. Everything on those trucks was over kill, built to last thru the harshest conditions. You can also buy a fording kit for them and actually drive them under water. So, I say go for it, in fact you will be able to find parts for it easier than you will with these old plymouths. One word of caution, top speed on them is 45 mph, and that's down hill, with a tail wind and pedal burried in the floor!! Normspeed Posted April 28, 2009 Report Posted April 28, 2009 Robert, that makes two of us who are looking at Power Wagons and trying to find a reason to buy one:D That 49 near me is still for sale, a great deal, but I just can't convince myself that I would use it. There's a great offroad area about 90 minutes north of here, a big lake called Elephant Butte, with plenty of dunes. But in the Power Wagon, I can't imagine driving it up there at highway speeds. Great old vehicles though. Quote
Young Ed Posted April 28, 2009 Report Posted April 28, 2009 I'd love to have one to play with in the woods at the cabin. Already have the 2x4 version we use to haul lumber dirt etc. It would be fun to put a giant push bumper on it, stick it in low range, and just push down trees. Saves time on cutting them down and you know which direction they are going! Quote
radioguy7 Posted April 28, 2009 Report Posted April 28, 2009 You got that right Norm, very slow but I did have mine on the highway a few times, screamin all the way. I had a rotating convoy light I installed, not just for looks but it actually was a safety issue. Only reason I sold mine is that we got into camping and needed a practical truck to pull a camper with. I still miss that old girl, was just a no frills straight out mean go anywhere work truck. It was fun too getting all the thumbs up after I had it painted in authentic period military markings. This was right after 911 when I finished it and because of that I think I got some pretty silly money for it. Quote

I appreciate the offers of help! However, I am doing all I can to talk myself out of this project. Both my '53 and '48 need a bit of work and maintenance and I think I had better use any spare money for them. Now, if I could find an old Fargo or Dodge pickup that might be different. I could actually use that! Quote
Brendan D25 Posted April 29, 2009 Report Posted April 29, 2009 Robert you could easily make room for the truck. You could send the 48 to me. I'll pay for the shipping, and will maintain it for you. Did you get a close look at the 54? It looked to be in decent condition. I'm heading for Sasketchewan tomorrow and will be on the road for about 4 or 5 weeks but not expecting to be in your area this time. Quote
RobertKB Posted April 29, 2009 Author Report Posted April 29, 2009 Brendan, I did look at the '54 Plymouth and it is a pretty decent four door. I will try to contact the owner in the summer. I think I will keep the '48 but thanks for the offer. Good luck in Saskatchewan and take care. If you do get my way, give me a shout. Quote
