55 Fargo Posted April 12, 2009 Report Posted April 12, 2009 Hi all, and a Happy Easter to those that observe. I did not bother to go for a spring ride in the car till 10 minutes ago. I fired up the car, using the on Coatney Coax Method, fired right up and tha car hasn't been started in almost a week. The new 2/0 cables and coil have made a huge difference. I only went a few miles down my gravel and road and back, all went well, even the speedo was moving well, did not lube it yet this spring. Brakes are fine, they need a minor adjustment. The car is of course noisy, no interior except the front seat and floor carpet, burnt the back seat last winter while welding. Today I will remove the lights, bumpers, and remaing trim, then will shoot on a few coats of high build 2 k urethane primer, then the blocking starts. But although my car is in primer, it is still a pleasure to go for a ride, isn't this what it's all about. Happy egg hunting........ Quote
Dennis Hemingway Posted April 12, 2009 Report Posted April 12, 2009 A Happy Easter to all. It is a very nice day here, I went out to the garage and started the cars and let them run. The Plymouth started right up after pumping the gas about 4 times, the 56 Chevy didn't want to wake up but started after pumping the gas about 40 times, and the Kabota tractor has a dead battery so as soon as I can lift I'll buy a new one. First time I got to start them sence my surgery. I can't wait till the doctor says that I can drive again as it looks like it would be a great day for a drive. The weather channel says that the temp here is going to be about 80. Dennis:cool: Quote
BobT-47P15 Posted April 12, 2009 Report Posted April 12, 2009 Raining and about 45 degrees here in S W MO this Easter day. Looks like I need another new battery in the convert....when I tried to start it yesterday, nothing happened. Guess I'll invest in a battery tender before long. You're right, Fred. That's what it's all about.....enjoyment of the old car! Quote
RobertKB Posted April 12, 2009 Report Posted April 12, 2009 Sunny, windy, and about 60F here. Had the D25 out for a spin and just got back. God, I love spring. Quote
radioguy7 Posted April 13, 2009 Report Posted April 13, 2009 Rockwood, Please describe the "Coatney Coax " method,This has got to be a good one. Does it involve something as complex as pump the gas pedal and push the starter button?? Quote
55 Fargo Posted April 13, 2009 Author Report Posted April 13, 2009 Nah, just crank the engine a few times to get the fuel pump to pump up some gas then what I do as I have an electric choke is push down on the gas pedal slightly ans she fires right up. With manual choke, you may need to pump the gas a bit set the choke and away you go........ Quote

I'm lucky if I get one revolution on startup after it's warmed up. Quote

Do you actually own an old Mopar or are you a wannabee:confused: LOLOL, over my head? anything you post I am sure any 5 yr old could master ya old koot. Did you run out of ensure?? seems like your mind is going. Yeah I own a mopar, a 47 P-15 4dr, and it's shiny like yours!! but doesn't mean I know jack, just that I have a shiny car. I also own a 59 GMC truck, a 57 chevrolet belair 4dr (been in my family since 1958), a 55 Cadillac 2dr hard top. recently sold a 1954 Dodge M37 weapons carrier that I did a full restoration on. Also recently sold a 1953 GMC M211 deuce and a half that I resurected from the scrap heap. Over the years I have restored or helped to restore many other vehicles, inlcuding a 1931 Model A Ford Coupe, a 1930 Model A Ford convertible, a 1947 Harley Davidson, a 1977 Susuki GS750, and a 1948 Century mahogany speed boat. I am a licensed Aircraft power plant mechanic, a licensed private pilot, and a musician skilled in brass instruments, I also restore antique radios and I am a systems specialist working in the IT field for the past 11 years. I have belonged to many forums over the years while involved in restoration projects and there are always one or two idiots that think they know everything and that every one should bow down to them. Well sir, I bow down to only one man, and his name isn't Don. What have you don Mr Coatney?? not much I'm sure, besides gloat and look down your nose at other people. Quote
Don Coatney Posted April 13, 2009 Report Posted April 13, 2009 I am impressed! Your list of accomplishments is almost as big as your ego. I have not done anything as noteworthy as you have. I just work at the big old bank. But I have done a few things. I have been a member of this forum from the beginning (8 years or so ago) when it operated under the old format. I have developed many friends due to this forum. I have had face to face meetings with more members of this forum than any other forum member has. I have more referrals to this forum than any other forum member. So I must be doing something right on this forum. I also participate in other forums car related and otherwise. I see you have been a member of this forum for a little over two months now. There is one thing you apparently have failed to learn (sometimes you learn more by listening instead of talking) about this forum. We all agree to disagree. Although Norms Coupe and I slam each other on a regular basis it is done in jest, as he is actually a good friend. Norm and I go back longer than this forum has been in existence. I do not know anyone on this forum who feels they bow down to me with the exception of you. Quote

As far as your banter, blah blah blah, who gives a rats A$$. I'm sorry for speaking out of turn, I didn't know there was a hush period after joining, I thought this forum was open to all people and not just you old crusts that have been around since we have had dirt. Just what I was talking about, nobody can add anything to the forum except for you or you get all upset because people stopped kissing your butt as much for a while. Why don't you try listening ya old koot, maybe you might learn something from us young folk that have actually skinned our knucles rather than just go out and buy a car someone else restored. I've learned a lot in the short time I've joined this forum as I have from the many other forums I have belonged to in the past. I've learned that the good usually far out weigh the bullies like yourself, so I will continue to add or take away what I can from this forum. Oh and my ego?? HA, i've never posted anything like my last post before because unlike you, I am not looking for a fan club, I happen to be very modest and always willing to give a guy a hand whenever I can. I am addicted to old cars and trucks, and that's all there is. So..., why don't you just keep your snide comments to yourself and I'll agree to ignore that you even exist. Quote
T120 Posted April 13, 2009 Report Posted April 13, 2009 Happy Easter All, Went For 1st Hop - nice pun Fred Quote
radioguy7 Posted April 13, 2009 Report Posted April 13, 2009 My appologies go out to forum members for my previous post, I just have a hard time with bullies trying to shove people around. Enjoying and talking about these old cars is what it's all about so we just need to learn to ignore those who try to pull us down to their level. Quote

scottyv47 Posted April 13, 2009 Report Posted April 13, 2009 i maybe a newbee, and i maybe speaking out of turn, but who's the assclown, radioclown, he should be banned from the site, first off this is a mopar site, not a chevy site, and second he has no buisness badmouthing other members, especialy long term members like you, or anyone else for that matter get rid of him Quote

Radioguy, glad you posted this, your comments were getting little "below the belt".I guarantee, you will not make fast friends on here, by going for the jugular. Now I realize you don't have a beef with me, and in most cases I think I would let others do there own deflecting, but heck Man I started this thread as Good Wishes to you all on here for Easter, and to let you know I was able to go and take a quick boot in the 47.An d having said this, I don't particularly appreciate you sidetracking it with your pissed off thinking. I am not trying to get anything going here, or to try and have Cyber Scrap with you, but this forum is a great group of guys. Now I realize we all have different personality types on here, and some will clash at times. I have known Don for about 4 years now, he is a great Guy, sometimes a little direct, and he has a dry sense of humour, a guy who can see the light side of things. But a Man with a lot of Knowledge and he has a truly very excellent mechanical aptitude, he sees the BS in things, and usually will point it out,"free of charge". So stay here a while, get to know some of us, this is a truly great Forum, I am a member of some other forums, and it ain't comfy like this one.If people want to abuse each other and make nasty comments on those sites let-em So lets get back to Old Mopars, like this Website is dedicated to. Plymouthy Adams Posted April 13, 2009 Report Posted April 13, 2009 we all have opinions, some conflict..when it does..let the name calling be and move along to another subject..the forum will not benefit from this in any manner..I know one of the parties involved here very well and I must say, Don has gone out of his way many time in both information and donating parts and such to help others get on the road, he has gone many miles out of the way just to shake hands and meet another forum member...and this is what makes this forum great.. Tom Skinner Posted April 13, 2009 Report Posted April 13, 2009 Dear Radio Guy 7, I have also made an ass out of myself on this forum before just as you have here. I apologized to the man that I did that to, not the "forum guys". Don Coatney could use an apology right now, you can do it, or let this whole thing pass as it is. But I can tell you it made me feel better to say I'm sorry to someone when I tresspassed against them. This can only bring true peace and friendship. For you peace of mind. For the forum and Don a new friend. Tom Skinner Huntersville, NC Quote

Now getting you all riled up, isn't good for you or for others on this forum. We all make mistakes, sometimes over-react, and say and write things in the "heat of the moment". As in many arguments, the "the Victor seems to win, our triumphs are short lived. Anger is not good for most of us. I have gotten offf on the wrong foot before, been angry, and made poor early impressions, then it takes a humble Man a lot of work to undo those words. Words once spoken, have a life of there own. Now no more preaching from me, I am only directly quoting you, because I see your new to this forum, and do not want you to think we operate like this, or have a problem of in-fighting and pissing-matches, like so many other forums do. So glad to have you here......... Quote
scottyv47 Posted April 14, 2009 Report Posted April 14, 2009 your point is understood, i just get upset when people do wrong to other people, and then not try to correct their mistake, but anyway i took my starter to be rebuilt today, and hopefully i'll be cranking by the weekend Quote

radioguy7 Posted April 14, 2009 Report Posted April 14, 2009 Respect is a two way street, if Don wanted to offer an appology for his comments I would gladly do the same. The success of these forums is all about mutual respect, nobody is better than anyone else. I think everyone has something useful to contribute. Just because someone is new to this forum doesn't mean that they are new to the vintage car hobby. Quote
