Brad Lustig Posted January 11, 2007 Report Posted January 11, 2007 iRobot Dirtdog available right now for the cheapest I've seen. It's been getting good reviews from the guys on the Roomba Review forum. I've been happy with my 2 other robots. http://www.woot.com/ Quote
Dennis Hemingway Posted January 11, 2007 Report Posted January 11, 2007 Brad, I have a better one than that. This one loves to vacume. It's called a Grandson. LOL Dennis Quote
blueskies Posted January 11, 2007 Report Posted January 11, 2007 I can't even walk through my garage, it so full of I don't know what anymore... Will it take are of that? LOL Pete Quote
bob_amos Posted January 11, 2007 Report Posted January 11, 2007 I'm in the same position as Pete. My double car garage has one small British sports car, a Sunbeam Alpine, in it and the rest is full with car parts and diagnostic equipment along with household goods. Wish I had a real garage. LOL But if I did the wife would want to park her modern vehicle in it... So I just can't win.... Quote
Young Ed Posted January 11, 2007 Report Posted January 11, 2007 Here's a glimpse at mine with a 46 parts car in it. As you can see there are parts and stuff all over. Anyone need any hubcaps that are scattered all over? There's lots of truck and p15 parts in there too plus stuff to keep my dakota going. Quote
blueskies Posted January 11, 2007 Report Posted January 11, 2007 I think the house version of this vacuum is kinda funny too, I don't think the designers of this machine have kids... There's only about 10% of my floor that isn't littered with toys, backpacks, snowpants, boots, hats, gloves, the dog, cat, or furniture. When we vacuum, we have to "unload" the floor... There's no way I could turn the little robot loose and expect it to make it more than 18" without a problem... Pete Quote
Brad Lustig Posted January 12, 2007 Author Report Posted January 12, 2007 My garage was a total wreck until a couple weekends ago. My wife and I pulled pretty much everything out into the driveway and yard, cleaned it and put things back into an actual spot. One time I thought I was done and went to back out the Dodge to go to my cruise-in and realized I still had enough stuff out in the driveway to fill an entire parking space. Quote
Norm's Coupe Posted January 12, 2007 Report Posted January 12, 2007 Well, you guys with cluttered garage problems just have to be brutal. I've always said a garage is for cars, not toy's, lawn equipment etc. My garage is just a standard 2 car garage. It contains my work bench, cabinets, table saw, heater, extra 350 engine & transmission, roll around tool cabinets, sand blasting cabinet, plus I can still get two cars in there all the time. I also keep the snow blower in there during the winter only. Everything in the garage is on wheels except the workbench. That way I can sweep under them easily. All the lawn stuff goes into the shed behind the garage. I realize some of you have small kids and their toys to contend with also. However, when my kids were young they were required to put their toys away in the basement each day. Their bikes went into the shed, never the garage. Any toy left in the garage got thrown away if it was still there when it came time to put the car in it at night. So......they did not leave many toys in the garage. If the toy got thrown out, it was not replaced unless they paid for it. My wife and I have an understanding. My tools, cars and parts go in the garage and it's my space. In return, I don't clutter the house with my car parts etc., except for a small corner in the basement and my basement workshop room. Car parts that I'm not going to use right away are stored either in the basement storage area or the shed. If it's something that I haven't used in a year or two and have no plans for, it gets tossed or sold. I can always buy another of whatever I threw out if I have to later. So......when it comes to the garage, you have to be ruthless!! By the way, soon the router table is also going to be in the garage. I will still have room left over after that. One other note from observations. Building bigger garages or extra garages doesn't help. Soon, they will be just as cluttered if you don't keep getting rid of stuff. My brother in law built a new extra (close to 3 car) garage about two years ago. The plan was to keep both his 36 & 38 Ford Coupe's in it, plus have a work area. Well, the 38 has never seen the inside of that garage, he still has to store it at his next door neighbors garage during the winter. That new garage does have his 36 Ford in it. However, the rest of the garage is full and has been within 6 months after it was finished. His basement is full, attic is full and so is his shed. He never throws anything out, so he keeps running out of room. He even has a collection of old nuts, bolts and screws we took out of his parents house when his mother passed away that had belonged to his father. That collection was all in glass jars on shelves in the basement. Those shelves were from floor to ceiling and stretched about 50 or 60 feet long. Do the math, they were all mason type jars. He tried to get me to take them at the time and I said no, so.........he might need one of those bolts some day, so he kept them all. You just can't save everything. Quote
Plymouthy Adams Posted January 12, 2007 Report Posted January 12, 2007 lot of truth in that statement ..but no fun... Quote

Brad, that reminds me of a time my wife and I were driving around looking for yard sales one weekend. We came upon a house with all kinds of stuff in out in the driveway and the garage door wide open. No one around so we just started looking around and digging through boxes of stuff. Wow !! we'd found a glory hole. My wife found something she wanted and went to the front door to roust someone out and make an offer. The lady of the house came out and was very upset with us. Turns out they were just cleaning out the garage and were inside for a lunch break. Quote

PatS.... Posted January 14, 2007 Report Posted January 14, 2007 I have had family members ask to store stuff in my garage. They slink away when I say I need to store my spare USED engine parts in their bedroom closet to make room in my garage to store their stuff. There is no Self-Storage sign on my garage. Quote
RobertKB Posted January 14, 2007 Report Posted January 14, 2007 Garages are for cars. I have a four car garage with three cars (my '38, 48, and '53), work bench, all my tools, and an area that a fourth car could go in that I use right now as a work space. I can disassemble the table there in a few minutes and put a fourth car in if needed. My everyday vehicles are parked in the front under a carport which gives them a lot of protection. I don't understand people with brand new vehicles who leave them sit outside while their garage is full of worthless junk. For most people, their car is the second most valuable thing they will own after their house! Quote
Norm's Coupe Posted January 15, 2007 Report Posted January 15, 2007 Geez Norm.... quite a few exceptions!!! Allan Allan, Actually the few parts that are in the basement storage area and my basement shop are all out of sight. Everything is either in drawers or boxes except for a good right rear P15 fender. That is actually out of sight for anyone just going into the basement though, unless they really look for it. Use to have an old beat up left rear P15 fender hanging in the shed. Gave it away to another Mopar guy several years ago to use on a trailer while cleaning out the shed. Anyway, that's why the wife doesn't mind the car parts that are in the basement. They're out of sight. Quote
Allan Faust Posted January 15, 2007 Report Posted January 15, 2007 You're a lot better than I am Norm... my stuff is everywhere (and I hear about it too....) but then again, I don't have my garage yet either..... Allan Quote
