55 Fargo Posted March 8, 2009 Report Posted March 8, 2009 Hi all, I know this is a distasteful topic and certainly not Old Mopar car related, so I apologize in advance for this thread, but felt compelled to share what has gone on with this case. As we all know, last August a approximately 40 YO Chinese male immimgrant who became a Canadian citizen, was on a Grehound Bus bound for Winnipeg, when he savavgely killed a young man Tim Mclean, Mclean had been sitting beside Vince Li. Li stabbed and decapitated young Tim Mclean, much to the horror of several bus travellers. UPDATE, Killer Vince Li, was found in Manitoba Courts Not Criminally repsonsible, becasue he has a severe mental illness, and was vey psychotic at the time he killed Mclean, he was found too Mentally ill to even be prosecuted. So now this maniac will be staying 5 miles from my house, at the Selkirk Mental Institution, which has a Maximum Security Forensic Psychiatric unit. His case will be reviewed yearly, as this is Canadian Mental Health Act laws, the family will have to attend this event yearly like a Parole Hearing, to ensure this animal stays behind bars. I am not happy this Killer is so close to my home and community, this Facility has had Psycho Killer escape in th past, it's rare but has happened. Sorry about just negative info, but thought I would let you guys know what happned in this case....Fred Quote
RobertKB Posted March 8, 2009 Report Posted March 8, 2009 Although I hate what happened, I kind of agree with the verdict. I just hope they keep him where he is until he dies. I really do think he was crazy and I doubt he will ever be sane. I feel for the family but this was a very strange case. Fred, I am sure you will be fine where you are and you can't worry about this kind of stuff. Enjoy the family, your Chrysler, and the nice weather that is going to get to you sooner or later. Quote

That my friend is the wrong kind of thinking!! I don't care how crazy he was he should have been found guilty. what if it were your son this happened to would you still feel the same ? It is easy for someone who has not had something like this happen to them to say. 5 miles isn't that far away if he were to escape. Quote

Robert I do agree he is deemed Mentally Not Criminally Responsible, but think he would be better off in a facilty with the organization called, the Correctional Service Of Canada, which have a regional psychiatric prisons in Saskatoon, and in Kingston Ontario. I believe he will be kept secured in Selkirk, but they have had the odd killer escape over the years. But your right,I will not lose any sleep over it, I work in a prison, so I am around these types all the time. I do feel sympathy for the family, having to attend these yearly reviews, I have personally attended Parole Hearings, where families have been there to watch the killers of there loved ones be set free, and/or be kept in prison, very difficult to witness there emotions and feelings. This is all I will comment on this case, as this is a car club, not my personal vent forum, so again sorry to anyone who finds this distasteful.......Fred Quote

Deez, I know what your saying, this guy is Crazier than crazy, does not know what is going on around him, but obviously very dangerous to society. I am quite confident he will be kept secure in the Selkirk facility, it's the yearly reivews that bother me, if he were to get well, he could theoretically be released. He should have filled with lead, but the Police Tasered him instead apparently, too bad that did not put this demented soul out of his misery....Fred Quote

If he was found guilty he would still be locked up for life as we do not have the death penalty in Canada. I do believe that some people are so mentally imbalanced that they are not responsible for their actions no matter how despicable. We all live with the fear of crazies nearby. What do they say, there are at least 50 serial killers throughout the US at any one time and I am sure it is no different in Canada. If it was my son it happened to, I would have to deal with that at the time but I would hope I have the human compassion to know the difference between malicious intended evil and someone mentally imcompetent unaware of what he is doing. http://www.winnipegfreepress.com/breakingnews/Court-hears-grisly-details-of-Greyhound-killing-40652712.html Quote
Plymouthy Adams Posted March 8, 2009 Report Posted March 8, 2009 house him in a facility with some hardened killers..let the inmates do what the courts system cannot.. Quote
RobertKB Posted March 8, 2009 Report Posted March 8, 2009 house him in a facility with some hardened killers..let the inmates do what the courts system cannot.. Don't agree with that either. So it is OK to jail hardened killers because as a society we do not like the crimes they commited but to have them kill someone found legally mentally irresponsible is alright? Quote
Plymouthy Adams Posted March 8, 2009 Report Posted March 8, 2009 I bet without any doubt whatsoever that the man knew he had killed another person..now as to why..we may never know and he may not either..but he did kill..he is capable of killing again...and what makes it worse it that it was totally without rhyme or reason... RobertKB Posted March 8, 2009 Report Posted March 8, 2009 and what makes it worse it that it was totally without rhyme or reason... That's why he is in a mental institution. Guess we have to agree to disagree. Quote
Bingster Posted March 8, 2009 Report Posted March 8, 2009 I didn't read any of the postings on this topic because although I naturally feel we can't put our heads in the sand about what's going on around us, I come to this forum to GET AWAY FROM this kind of news. I see enough of it just getting to this web site. It's a crazy time, we all know, but we have to maintain our sanity somehow, and taking refuge for awhile in this site is happy time for me. If it becomes peppered with bad news that colors my thinking before bedtime from old cars to killers, then I'll have to pass in the future. Quote
Brendan D25 Posted March 8, 2009 Report Posted March 8, 2009 It is with much deliberation that I am posting a reply to this thread. I really am not sure what to say. I don't want to offend anyone, but would be possible to not post this sort of thing as I (and others I am sure) find that it is not what I come here to read. If I want to be updated on the news or recipes there are other places I can go. Respectfully, Brendan. Quote
Don Coatney Posted March 8, 2009 Report Posted March 8, 2009 Pun factually intended. Nothing fun to discuss here. Going forward lets only post car things and fun things. Quote
