dezeldoc,

The part about having fun with spammers is something I only recently learned to do, but it sure is a kick in the pants when it gets pulled-off. For example, every couple weeks for several months I received calls on my answering machine from some clown wanting me to upgrade my auto warranty. I even got a letter or two from him each month, but I guess that's because I have four vehicles registered in Colorado and they're not checking anything other than I own more than the average number of cars one person normally owns. I finally received a call from him in January and I asked which of them he thought I should buy an extended warranty for, and I could hear the excitement welling in his chest. He asked me excitedly what the cars were and I told him a '67 VW Bug and a '48 Plymouth. There was a moment of silence between us as he came to terms with his career auguring into the sewer, then assured me I'd be removed from the list. Then he asked me why I was jacking him around, and I reminded him that it was he who was spamming me. He hung up and I've never heard from him again, and damn, that felt good!

If there isn't a 'no-call' system for websites like there is for phones maybe it's time somebody created one because there will certainly be a call for them in the near future.

I always wanted to do same to those guys, but neither my wife nor I were ever home when they called. Just messages on our answering machine telling us that this was the "second" notice that our vehicle warranty may be expiring soon. Well, the 1946's warranty expired over 60 years ago, the Jeep about 15 years ago, the convertible about 14 years ago, the Acclaim about 14 years ago, and the Neon about 7 years ago.

Then we moved to Missouri, and didn't even get a call from the newspaper trying to sell us a subscription. AAHHH!

I refuse to register to vote because of all the solicitation calls and juncque mail I used to get when I lived in Minnesota and Arkansas. I still remember the fundraising letters that I received from my opponents when I ran for office in 2006. I promptly sent a fundraising letter of my own. My wife and some of our friends remember getting calls from pollsters asking who we preferred in my race. They wanted to give them my name, but were I wasn't a choice on their list as if there was only two choices in the 2006 US Senate race in Minnesota. There were five of us on the ballot that year.

If I ever find one of those warranty idiots they are going to be eating a mouthfull of teeth !! I used to get, no lie at least 3 calls a day and a letter 4 times a week. I waited on hold for them a half dozen times and asked them to remove me from their list and "ok sir it is done" a week goes by and it starts all over again. the last time, I was under a car and smacked my head getting the phone and guess who! I taught that boy words he never knew existed, If I could have reached through the reciver I would have nailed him. guess what been about 3 months now and no more calls or letters!:D I don't think their is a person in the states who did not get a call from them pretty sure it was a scam.

We get calls like that in Canada also. I am on the Canadian "do not call list" but believe most of the calls I get originate in the US. Guess it is payback for the Alberta Clippers we send south, especially this year. Dezeldoc, I can relate to your experience. You drop what you are doing (or bang your head) and when you answer it, some idiot asks about car warranties.

Anymore when I pick up the phone and hear that dreaded pause, or a foreign voice that just asked for me and butchered my name, I just hang up. Mostly phone calls from credit card companies wanting me to sign up, seems not as many anymore. Always getting that wonderful spam e-mail, but if I didn't get that I probably wouldn't get much e-mail at all.

Learned to only say hello one time, anymore than that activates the automated response from the computor telemarketer....if silence ensues, wonderful!

To me the phone is only a tool, used for calling to work or ordering pizza:D

Andy Rooney on 60 Minutes once said if you hear no answer when you say hello to hit the pound key 7 or 8 times as this royally screws up their system. Not sure if it is true but it gives me satisfaction to do it. He claimed it really worked.

FRANKIE47, I feel the same way about phones. Only a tool to use as little as possible. I just got a cell phone and only because my wife wanted one. I could have lived without it. She is also technologically challenged and I end up dialling for her most of the time or showing her again how to use it.:P

We don't get any calls on our home phone anymore since going on the "No Call List". However, we use to get a lot of them. I learned to never jump to get the phone since it would only ring 4 times before the answering machine took over. Then we would check it when we were finished with what we were doing. If it was a sales call, we would just erase it and forget it.

That said, before the call list, we would get calls from one home improvement outfit almost monthly, with a real pushy salesman calling. After telling him the same thing all the time, I decided to do my thing. When he called again, I ask him about doing some work and told him to explain to me how he would do it, and the approximate price for doing it, knowing he would talk for a long time. After he started his pitch I layed the phone down on the sofa and walked away. About 30 minutes later, I picked up the phone and no one was there. I no sooner hung up the phone, and it rang again. Was the same guy. He then started in asking where I was. Without answering his question, I again laid the phone down on the sofa and walked away for about another 30 minutes. For some reason, I never heard from that place again.:D :D

This the reason to have an answering machine! But your right about being bothered with the ringing of the phone. But you know there is a guy at the other end of the phone trying probably to support his family or something and so I can't get to upset. Now that our economy is down the sewer, more and more people are looking at ways just to live and pay there rent. Jon

I have received numerous calls on my cell regarding the auto repair plan renewal which I never signed up for in the first place. I have explained to them that the only two cars that I own are two 1967 Plymouth Furys. I have waited to speak to a person and explained this. Each time I have been taken off of the call list. I was thinking that the next time this happens, I would like to tell them that they have not paid for the two claims that I sent to them previously (BS) of course and start to make a stink about it. Could be fun.:D :D

The wife has been trying to fit me with a leash for years, I mean a cell phone:D They seem to not last long with me...always getting wet or breaking:rolleyes:

FRANKIE47, Don't let the wife find out they make a "Rugidized" phone that is military approved. Then you wont have any excuse.

One of the few pleasures in life when I have dealing with these scumbags is to ask them, once their spiel starts "Is this some kind of sick joke?"

Naturally they say "no," why.

And my reply is " Mr -------- ---- passed away about 4 days ago. Please have more consideration for the family.

This gets them really mushed-mouth and they star losing their composure and even apologize.

Of course, the wife doesn't think it as funny as I do, but what does she know about it.

Why so many steps, why does it take so long?? I point out on any given day a third (33%!!!) of the registrations I see are from spammers. This place would be worthless if they got in. When one does slip by you all are pretty good at getting it flagged up to me for admin.

Gerald, you mst be doing a good job, because we see very few here. I see on another forum that I frequent that they have a " report " icon and I presume it is for reporting scammers or offensive posts. Brendan.

Google Tom Mabe and listen to a few of his pranks on telemarketers....some hilarious ones, especially the one where he pretends to be a homicide detective investigating a murder...."do you have a business relationship with Mr. ....?"
