Does anybody know if a 46-48 Dodge passenger car grille will fit on a 42 Dodge without making major modifications?

Both have the same flat face but the 46-48 has a small panel just under the hood, you would have to install it to make up for the taller 42 grill, it would be interesting to see.

Dig the trim lines on those skirts!

Knucks, someone told me this 42 coupe has a P15 hood on it. If the Dodge grille doesn't work maybe a P15 setup would bolt in.

Norm, that is a P-15 hood. i have a rusted out P-15 grille backing piece (the trim bolts to it) that I wouldn't mind cutting up to fit if I had to do that. I don't mind cutting and welding rusty crap. I could just paint the support piece,or even make my own trim pieces to bolt to it from whatever I find.

Thanks for the tip! If I haven't found a good grille by the time I start putting the car back together,I might have to go that way until I can find one.

From the top pictures it looks like the headlights are a bit closer together on the 42. Might just be the camera angle but to le it looks like the 42 has more trim to the outside of the lamps.

Yeah,me,too. I know the front fenders are different at the rear than the 46-48,and I suspect they are different at the front, too.

Still,if the 46-48 grille is bigger,I may be able to cut one down to fit in my opening until I can find a good 42 grille.

Yeah,I could make a tube grille to fit in there temporarily, but would rather use a Dodge grille of some sort. Plus I keep seeing 46-48 grilles for sale on ebay all the time for cheap prices,so I thought I might buy one and try it if nobody can think of a reason it can't be make to work fairly easily.

Wider Taller and has different headlamp doors.

Wider and taller is good. That means I could cut it down.

For as much as a 42 and a 46-48 look alike at a glance, they are very

different in most respects.

Maybe a complete front clip from a D24 might fit on a 42.

*****edited to remove Plymouth pics and references, per the msg from Tim below.

Oops.....Tim, you're right. I was thinking Plymouth......must have been

tired or something. However, I wonder if the same idea might work. Of

course, that would eliminate certain distinct features of the 42 front end.

I think by looking that the 42 Dodge has the distinction of the fender ending at the cowl and not extending into the door panel as with the D24..thus an entire clip change would again be fruitless..If you were unable to find a 42 Dodge grille etc I think that the DeSoto or Chrysler of the same year would be fairly close to working compared to the other styles..I can assure you the 41 with the butterfly grille is somuch different BUT..as I donot have access to the 42 and as such, does the frille panel unbolt as it does on the 41..if so..making retro a year may be doable
