Just wondering if anyone here joins or just cruises route 66 anymore. I live near route 66 in oklahoma and was raised in Galena Ks one of the 3 towns in kansas that it runs through and always enjoyed watching the cars cruise through town. I wouldn't mind doing a partial cruise myself or at least meet some of the guys as they came through oklahoma.

Cheers,

Micah

My son and I did a 3,300 mile road trip from Idaho to Tulsa, OK and back in my '50 Plymouth for the Burried Belvedere event. Traveled lots of Old Route 66 between Sante Fe, NM and Tulsa, OK. Used a couple of guide books to find the route and stuff to see along the way. Had a great time in the process. I'd like to do it again some day with more time... You can see all the pictures we took along the way by clicking here.

The 2 car clubs here cruise Route 66 on Saturday nights. We have our meeting then cruise from one end of town to the other, then back to the starting point. Route 66 is Main St here in Barstow.

Here we are traveling Route 66 between Victorville & Barstow. That is a 69 Cougar in front of me & I had a 70 Boss Mustang behind me.

I traveled from Tulsa to Joplin on Rt. 66 years ago before my wife and I got married. I also drove a 50 mile stretch in NM on my way to Roswell last year. We are planning on taking the P15 from Springfield MO to Tulsa on Rt. 66 this spring on our way to visit friends living near Enid.

I've even given some serious thought to driving from Springfield MO to Los Angeles on Rt. 66.

I was lucky enough to cruise the Mother Road quite a few times with my father back in the 60's and 70's before I-40 passed it by. I was utterly fascinated with the curio shops, diners and other oddities during my childhood. I have so many fond memories of our trips that I designed my tattoo to include two of my favorite icons of Rt. 66

In 2001, I took my daughter with me on a cruise, retracing many of the old stops. From CA to New Mexico, they have reopened some stretches. At times, we drove where we weren't really supposed to and found some long lost relics. Here's my daughter near Ludlow.

I have a photo somewhere of myself at the same age in the same spot. One of my favorites was Twin Arrows. Back then it was in full swing. Now I hear that most of the arrows have rotted away:(

Well I'm pretty sure there are only 2 but I could be wrong.. I dont know how big Galena ill is but Galena kansas never was very big...but then again they built a huge casino over near the I-44 so I guess we will see how big it gets....I cant imagine it getting any bigger though. Ive never drove any of 66 unless you count driving home from work in Joplin to baxter springs to go fishing..

My brother lives about 200 yards off of the original 66 just outside of Carthage, MO. That's where my '54 and his '53 sit. Back in high school the Route 66 Drive-in was an all mopar junkyard. It seemed like he had mostly 70's and newer stuff, but the owner's father had been a dirt track racer way back when. That's how I came up with an aluminum flywheel for a flathead 6. They later turned it back into Drive-in Theater. I think it still is.

I have driven on a lot of the stretches that are still in Missouri, alongside I-44 up and down to St Louis. After I got out of college in 1998, I stayed in St Louis in an apartment that was on another piece of the original road. Chippewa?

I stayed at a motel in Tucumcari NM on 66 also.

There's a really nice Drive-In in Tulsa along US-412. Four screens and very popular. I've not had an opportunity to patronise the drive-in in St. Joseph MO, but am looking forward this summer.

Drive in movies used to be a lot of fun. There was always the horn test, and the spotlight test. I remember my mom popping a brown paper grocery bag full of corn and a cooler full of lemonade when she took us kids to the drive in. Then in high school my buddy and I would double date and take his dads early 50's Nash with the fold down seats and lots of blankets. However at my age if I try to stay up late to watch a movie at home I fall asleep before it is over.

I'm lucky to live near two of the remaining CA drive-ins. One in San Luis Obispo and another about a 1/2 mile from my home, the Hi-Way Drive In in Santa Maria. I went to at least five of the drive-ins on the "Dead" list. I just recently went back to visit the Chico Starlite drive-in which is gone, but I discovered the screen was disassembled and rebuilt in the outfield of the Butte College baseball field. The coach was a drive-in fan and wanted to save something. Pretty cool!

follow this link to active drive-ins by state...also shows list of those long since closed

We were at the Rt 66 Drive In at Carthage, MO during a tour for the 2005

HAMB drags. It's still operating. Yes, at one point several years ago, it

was used as a salvage yard.

This rejuvenated old movie theater is on Main Street in Webb City, MO.

Not right on 66, but close. They are still operating.

A group of about 65 Jaguars of various types and ages from Holland

was taking a Rt 66 cruise in 2007. Stayed at the Ramada Inn in Joplin.

Visited with a couple of the drivers.

We also went to the digging up of the buried 57 Plymouth in Tulsa......took

66 from Joplin. Son-in-law rode with me in the vert, wife and daughter

were following in their air conditioned PT Cruiser.

Mr. Coatney drove his blue 48 P15 to Tulsa from Murfreesboro, TN, a pretty

good jaunt. That DeSoto engine and T5 tranny get it right down the

road.

This is part of a group of old cars in White Oak, Oklahoma on Rt 66.

This icon on old 66 in Tulsa, the Metro Diner, is now gone. Razed to use

the land for a college next door. We ate there on two or three

occasions.
