Ward Duffield Posted January 22, 2009 Report Posted January 22, 2009 Hi Can anyone recommend a good shop for refinishing the woodgrained interior window moldings? Quote
aero3113 Posted January 22, 2009 Report Posted January 22, 2009 I the future I might be looking for one also,I was thinking of finding someone that knows how to use a airbrush.I would paint the base color then they can paint the grain over that. Quote
Don St Peter Posted January 24, 2009 Report Posted January 24, 2009 I was very lucky to find a guy ( Gerald Elwood ) that taught me how to do it. I was very lucky to have come across Him as he is a master! My 40 Plymouth came out like a factory job when I did it under his personal supervision in 2002and the job is still perfect to this day, and I did it all myself, with zero previous experience. If there is a interest out there.... please let me know as I have the step by step procedures, materials, etc. and I think Gerald would like His secret to be known! Don Quote
Frank Elder Posted January 24, 2009 Report Posted January 24, 2009 Do you have any pictures? Finished or step by step? Quote

Frank Elder Posted January 24, 2009 Report Posted January 24, 2009 I feel you, maybe some here would Volunteer to post them for you or walk you through it......I am barely able to post myself and just by "borrowing" small enough pictures to qualify for posting here. Quote
Young Ed Posted January 24, 2009 Report Posted January 24, 2009 I would be willing to help post them. Perhaps GTK can help us store them in a more permanenet spot. Quote

claybill Posted January 24, 2009 Report Posted January 24, 2009 ha.!!! i meant DASH...not ash.! bill Quote
Frank Elder Posted January 24, 2009 Report Posted January 24, 2009 Last time I had my ash hangin' out it got woodgrained by the principal! Quote
Don Jordan Posted January 25, 2009 Report Posted January 25, 2009 When I had my car painted I was thinking of having the dash and garnish molding done but it is way expensive so I just had the dash painted the same color as the car. If you can woodgrain yourself you are way ahead of the game. There are web sites and I have some names I got at the Pomona (CA) swap meet but like I said the harder something is to do the more it costs. Quote
Don St Peter Posted February 1, 2009 Report Posted February 1, 2009 I am editing the detailed steps of the process and will publish with pics next week Don Quote
RobertKB Posted February 1, 2009 Report Posted February 1, 2009 I am editing the detailed steps of the process and will publish with pics next weekDon That will be great. I have a '48 Dodge that I painted the dash and window mouldings grey years ago. I have always wanted to woodgrain them properly and this could be the catalyst. Quote
Howard Tarnoff Posted February 6, 2009 Report Posted February 6, 2009 I have posted links to the photo album I have on picassa, and would invite you to look at the woodgrain that was done on the dash on my 49. It is, IMHO, really outstanding. The shop is Xtreme Restorations by Todd Lewis in Slatersville RI. 401-762-5544 I dont know how to upload from that site but here is the link. http://picasaweb.google.com/CrusinDuck/Magoo#5190908975998016962 There are 338 pictures of the build up on the site. Don St Peter Posted February 6, 2009 Report Posted February 6, 2009 I'm a little confused. There seems to be two seperate threads on woodgraining. I published detailed steps and pictures at 11 AM on 2/4, but it was posted on another thread??? Take a look & let me know Don Quote
Frank Elder Posted February 6, 2009 Report Posted February 6, 2009 you answered this thread originally, and then later started your own thread....hope this helps Quote
