Bingster Posted January 17, 2009 Report Posted January 17, 2009 I took this hose off the front end of my '47 Desoto S-11 Custom sedan about a year ago, and for them life of me I cannot remember where it goes. It has a fitting at one end like a brake hose where it hooks onto the bracket. But the other end throws me. It's brass and within that hole in the center is another tiny hole inside for fluid to pass through. And the bracket?? Any hints? Quote
Niel Hoback Posted January 17, 2009 Report Posted January 17, 2009 It looks like it would work for the oil pressure guage, and that would explain the small hole in one end. But, off the front end ??? Quote
greg g Posted January 17, 2009 Report Posted January 17, 2009 looks like a brake hose from a more modern car with disc brakes. The groved end for the clip that attaches it to the steel line and th square fitting to allow fluid to go to he caliper fitting. Quote
Frank Elder Posted January 17, 2009 Report Posted January 17, 2009 Banjo fitting on one end, pressure fitting on the other, has to be a brake line, sure it wasn't in the trunk..lol extra stuff PO? Quote
Niel Hoback Posted January 17, 2009 Report Posted January 17, 2009 Thats what it is, Greg. I recognize the bracket that holds it out of the way of the suspension. Maybe he ran over it and picked it up. Quote
brian hood Posted January 17, 2009 Report Posted January 17, 2009 That is a brake line fo sure! Quote
Frank Elder Posted January 17, 2009 Report Posted January 17, 2009 Top of the bracket sure is shiny, what was it rubbin' on? Non stock application? Quote
dezeldoc Posted January 17, 2009 Report Posted January 17, 2009 Yep 80's gm. it has seen better days. Quote
Don Coatney Posted January 17, 2009 Report Posted January 17, 2009 Looks pretty much like the one I am using on my disc brake equipped P-15. Quote
Norm's Coupe Posted January 17, 2009 Report Posted January 17, 2009 Don, Why did you need the bracket on the brake hose? I'm assuming to keep the hose from rubbing on something. However, I did not get one with my kit and there is no rubbing. I have the GM banjo brake hose also. I just mounted it like the original hose was mounted. Quote
moparalltheway Posted January 17, 2009 Report Posted January 17, 2009 Brake Hose. What makes it a G.M.? Quote
dezeldoc Posted January 17, 2009 Report Posted January 17, 2009 could be anyone's but that is the style gm used. the hose bolted to the spindle if I remember right. Quote
Don Coatney Posted January 17, 2009 Report Posted January 17, 2009 The hose I used is from a 85 Buick Riviera. I removed the hold down bracket prior to installing the hose on my car. Quote
greg g Posted January 17, 2009 Report Posted January 17, 2009 When we visited Don and Lisa back after Thanksgiving, Don offered me a drink. Remembering that photo, I took a beer........... You can tell is a GM hose as it obviously failed early..... Quote
Captain Neon Posted January 17, 2009 Report Posted January 17, 2009 Looks pretty much like the one I am using on my disc brake equipped P-15. Hey Don! Do you have Prince Albert in a can? I couldn't resist. Quote
Don Coatney Posted January 17, 2009 Report Posted January 17, 2009 I have Prince Albert in a lot of cans. Quote
Bingster Posted January 17, 2009 Author Report Posted January 17, 2009 Thanks guys for the input. I would also think it's a brake hose. I disassembled my front brakes, and the other hose is of the straight hose variety with a male screw-in thread on one end for the cylinder and the female fitting on the other end that attaches to the bracket mounted to the frame. It could have been in the trunk with some other junk. There was a Corvette part in there as well. I really should have taken some photos. Thing is, I cannot seem to find this part in a 1947 Desoto illustrated parts book. Quote
