Are there any out there that will work in my 1950 Plymouth parking lights and tail lights? I guess they would have to be 90 deg so the led can face forward or I would have to modify the socket

I used these and they work just fine. Amazingly, polarity is no issue - they work fine connected either direction. Be sure to get red bulbs if you are using them behind red glass. Got it wrong first time and they weren't brighrt enough. Had to reorder. They fit orignal sockets and are available in indexed or non indexed pin styles. JMHO

Incandesent lights draw roughly 6-7 amps and LEDS about 2 amps, so your stock turn signal flasher will not activate your lamps correctly. Same for EMG. flashers also.

Hi Frankie, never thought of this before, is this correctable?

I have though of going the LED route, but so far my regular bulbs are quite bright, new wires, good connections and grounds , make that possible with a 6 volt system.......Fred

Fred if you don't go LED all around I've heard that doesn't matter. I think I found a flasher that would fix it for you if you wanted all LED bulbs but I think it was about $50.

I was just searching around on google when this came up once before. I didn't buy one so I can't say for sure where.

Not true. If you are running the stock turn signal flasher it will work with LED's. A visit to my house will prove this. My original front parking/signal and my original tail lights/signals are running with original type 6 volt bulbs. I then converted my dual backup lights to additional stop and turn signals using LED's, that are tied into the original tail lights/signals. My emergency flashers also work the same on all lights, LED's and stock 6 volt bulbs. I also installed an LED light in the dash (radio face) to act as a turn signal indicator in the car. All use the regular stock original type flasher. I only have one flasher for all.

Now, that said. Because the LED bulbs take much less power to operate, they come on before the original bulbs do. Hence in the rear I get about two flashes in the LED's for every one flash of the original bulbs. Kind of neat having them work in an alternating pattern like that and makes them that much more noticeable.:)

Forgot I had a movie on my website showing the turn signal in the rear. Really can't see the original tail light flashing very well but you can see the converted LED backup light flashing very well. Here's the link. http://www.indfloorcoating-repair.com/turnsignal2.mov

I found this on high www.speedspeedmotors.com

If you choose to use these 6 Volt LED bulbs to replace all 4 of your Turn signal bulbs, the old style flasher units will not turn the bulbs on and off. There is just not enough current flow to heat up the flasher unit. There are a few ways around this. You can pigtail a single incandesant bulb from each side of the circuit (for example in the trunk, under the dash, or in the tail light housing), or wire in a dropping resistor. As long as there is one of the old type bulbs in the circuit, these LEDs will flash. They will work just fine, with no alterations to your wiring, if they are used for either only front or only rear turn signal bulbs.

Im surprised they dont mention the new flasher option. Its an elec type instead of one that works on heat.

I converted the front parking lamps on my truck to LEDs so that I could use them as turn signals. My rear lights are regular incandecent lamps. The flasher works fine with that arrangement. However, without the rear lamps the LEDs weren't enough to make the flasher work.

I searched all over for a 6V electronic flasher and couldn't find anything.

I got my LEDs from superbrightleds and they also sell resistors that can be wired in to make a thermal flasher work with the LEDs

NORMSCOUPE RE-READ MY POST, I don't see anywhere in it that 1 reg. bulb was mentioned. All LED LIGHTS ONLY and STOCK flashers DO NOT WORK!

The only reason your's works is because your single bulb powers the flasher all by itself! As was posted, the LEDS do not draw enough current to heat up the stock flasher.

I work on these harnesses daily when fixing and rewiring big rig truck trailers. When a cutomer has a changeover to LEDS he can do it one marker at a time in that circut and it will still work until you change the last bulb, then NOTHING will FLASH until you replace the stock flasher with an LED COMPATIBLE FLASHER.

Sorry for the rant,

Frankie

I just went to my local Pep Boys and bought an electronic flasher that matched my original pinout. I don't remember the cost, but I guarantee you it was more like $15 than $50!
