Ony,

Boa vinda. Two gorgeous vehicles and thank you for sharing them with us.

Where in Brazil do you live? My brother did research in Manaus for two years and still speaks highly of the cultures he encountered.

(Are you making any plans to convert the cars to run ethanol?)

Ony,

In the States the P-15 designation was given to the Plymouth's. I understand that the Dodge's of that era sold in Canada were actually Plymouths dressed in Dodge trim, so I wonder if the De Soto's sold in Brazil had a similar treatment? (While writing this post I can't go back to the thumbnails, and I wasn't awake enough to check before writing.)

Those are still beautiful cars regardless of how they began life.

Those beautiful Desotos are Plymouth bodied with Desoto trim added and I believe were for export only. The Canadian Dodges (D25) as mentioned have a similar treatment with the Plymouth body but Dodge trim and were only sold in Canada.

Ony, I think you are right about the parking lens being the same on your Desoto and on my Dodge D25. However, I do not have a spare one at present but I will keep looking for some and if I find any I will keep you in mind. They do show up on ebay at times but can be quite expensive. We have a local swapmeet in February and I will be sure to look for some then.

The DeSoto SP15 was an export model built in both Detroit and Windsor. Not many know that up until Chrysler Australia introduced the Chrysler Royal AP1 all Chrysler Corporation cars were built in the U.S. and Canada. Cars shipped to other markets were complete units, CKD units or chassis/powertrain units. The chassis units were shipped to Australia where Australian bodies were placed on the chassis.

The first Plymouth-based DeSoto export models appeared in 1937, built in Detroit. Chrysler Canada began building them in 1939, although none were built at Windsor in 1955. For 1949 they became known as the DeSoto Dipomat and the final two years, 1960 and 1961, were really Dodge Darts.

The "Canadian" Dodge was also built at the Plymouth plant in Detroit for export. The first Plymouth-based Dodge appeared for 1934, and in 1936 American production began for export markets. In 1949 the export models were sold as Dodge Kingsway. 1959 was the last year for the Kingsway and the Plymouth-based Dodge.

Leftover 1961 Dodge Lancers were sold in South Africa as the 1962 DeSoto Rebel, where 1962 Dodge Darts were also sold under the DeSoto name.

The export Dodges and DeSotos were never sold in Canada, although they were sold in Hawaii before it became a state.

It looks as if the P15 DeSoto has a flat rectangular parking light lense,

like a Dodge D24, instead of the small curved one like a Plymouth.

Click on link to view the DeSoto.

On ebay is this 48 American DeSoto......the parking lenses are in a different location than the one is Brasil.
