Frank Elder Posted August 16, 2008 Report Posted August 16, 2008 To the best of my knowledge I have never used the log out feature for our forum, until now. Immeadiatly my pc popped up with a warning ARE YOU SURE YOU WANT TO LOG OUT ? so being the chicken I am The CANCEL option was quickly chosen! Will LOG OUT cancel my membership, or does it simply log out with the option to return to the forum freely? I've always just used the big red X. Not so fearless Frankie Quote
Plymouthy Adams Posted August 16, 2008 Report Posted August 16, 2008 it was just a note to you that logging out willrequire you to re-enter your name and password at next visit if you want to participate beyond just reading posts...no harm..no foul..that is if you remember your name and password Quote
Frank Elder Posted August 16, 2008 Author Report Posted August 16, 2008 How do I get this Info. Password from GTK? Quote
NatesSedan Posted August 16, 2008 Report Posted August 16, 2008 Why log out? I have never used it before. As far as password goes. When you enter your password...check the box that says remember password and you don't have to enter it again. Quote
BobT-47P15 Posted August 16, 2008 Report Posted August 16, 2008 However......I do have a piece of paper on my computer desk, stuck off to the side, where I list passwords I use for various things. Cause I forget from time to time. Quote
Don Coatney Posted August 16, 2008 Report Posted August 16, 2008 How do I get this Info. Password from GTK? You made up and submitted your user name and password before you made your first posting. Did you write them down? Quote
Frank Elder Posted August 16, 2008 Author Report Posted August 16, 2008 Loved your PBR comment am recovering slowly, &%#%@ kareoke nites hope I did'nt sing! Back at hand I will search from the keel to the crows nest but am not overly optimistic. Quote
Johnny S Posted August 16, 2008 Report Posted August 16, 2008 Just don't log out! Then you probably won't need the name/password. About the only time you will get "kicked out" then will be if the forum gets reset by GTK for some reason and bumps everybody off. And then I will have to find my password too! Quote
NatesSedan Posted August 16, 2008 Report Posted August 16, 2008 When I recieve my password and login confirmation emails I move them to my "drafts" folder in my email and whenever I need them...bingo there they are. Question is....Where did I leave my email login info?? Quote
mackster Posted August 16, 2008 Report Posted August 16, 2008 However......I do have a piece of paper on my computer desk, stuck off to the side, where I list passwords I use for various things. Cause I forget from time to time. That's what I do. I got this info book I keep on my computer desk...I clean my cookies and other stuff daily or weekly. makes my computer run faster. try it if you are having problems with your computer speed. Quote

Cause I forget from time to time. I guess that means you have passwords you can actually type without making too many mistakes. I use passwords like "c1G4pKKmLN20QKCc", "VtUbwDCYK8pT5Ww7" or "6D1ft4xqAOfNoVls". If the website/program allows non-alphabetic characters and long passwords then I will go for things like "55kQi2vaJe-0k41gDCdz1yd4mLp;g8sIHKJr$%;0wuZ;gyi7". And I use a different password on every account. These are easy for me to generate since I wrote a program to do it for me using a random number generator. (None of the preceding passwords are in use on any of my accounts.) Since there is no way I can remember or type in any of them, I have them all in a file that I keep encrypted with a single password that I can remember and type. I cut and paste from that file into the log in box as required. So if mega-bank gets hacked or has an employee sell account information to crooks only that one institution's account has gone bad for me since all accounts have unique, non-guess-able passwords. I believe that there are commercial and share-ware programs that make the same type of thing easy to do (generate random passwords and them keep them in an encrypted file). If you can find one that is easy for you to do, I'd recommend it. Quote
PatS.... Posted August 17, 2008 Report Posted August 17, 2008 I only use the complicated passwords for the bank and credit card and other sites that are financial. Forums like this have one of about 10 I use for non-financial sites. I have em written down but they are backwards Quote
