slategrove Posted August 15, 2008 Report Posted August 15, 2008 I'm trying to find some LH thread lug bolts for my 48 Dodge Town Sedan...Bernbaum doesn't have them, does anyone have any suggestions on where I can find them? I need 2 of them Thanks, Quote
greg g Posted August 15, 2008 Report Posted August 15, 2008 Napa should be able to get them for you. In the meantime take one off the back and run with 4 on each wheel till the new ones arrive. Quote
slategrove Posted August 15, 2008 Author Report Posted August 15, 2008 Napa will have the 2 bolts for me tomorrow...thanks, but they don't have the nuts...know where I can get 2 LH thread lug nuts? Quote
Fireball Posted August 15, 2008 Report Posted August 15, 2008 ebay? http://search.ebay.com/search/search.dll?from=R40&_trksid=m37.l1313&satitle=lh+thread+nut&category0= Quote
Plymouthy Adams Posted August 15, 2008 Report Posted August 15, 2008 these are just standard 1/2-20 left hand thread..about any parts store should have them..try Advance, O'Reilys etc etc.. Quote
BobT-47P15 Posted August 15, 2008 Report Posted August 15, 2008 My question is: if the Dodge needs two lug BOLTS, why do you also need two lug NUTS?? Signed: confused reader:confused: Quote
slategrove Posted August 15, 2008 Author Report Posted August 15, 2008 to keep the wheel on the car...maybe my explanation was bad, instead of "bolts" maybe I should have said studs? Quote
Don Coatney Posted August 16, 2008 Report Posted August 16, 2008 You can also try a farm impliment store. I once had a 1957 furd engine driven bailer that used lefties. Quote
Plymouthy Adams Posted August 16, 2008 Report Posted August 16, 2008 Most folks that own these Dodges know up front that they use wheels stud and lug nuts as opposed to the Plymouth and the lugbolt...I myself was a bit taken aback to find that this even applied as far back as 1941 when I got my first Town Sedan slategrove..as an owner of a 41 and 47 town Sedan..care to post any pictures..?? look for e-mail addy in PM Quote
Normspeed Posted August 17, 2008 Report Posted August 17, 2008 Yeah, I recently switched to 11" Dodge rear brakes on my Plymouth, a direct bolt in swap. I was pleasantly surprised to find studs instead of bolts in the drums. Quote
slategrove Posted August 17, 2008 Author Report Posted August 17, 2008 Tim, I posted some pics of it a few months ago, but I've been pretty actively working on her, so here's what she looked like before I replaced all the glass... I've also replaced coil, ditributor cap, rotor, condensor, plugs, plug wires, rewired the entire car, sorted out a bunch of break problems, complete with new brake lines, new pitman arm bushings (which made a HUGE differnce), got an original carb back on her, found an oil bath air cleaner, and I'm sure I'm forgetting more, but you get the idea. Plymouthy Adams Posted August 17, 2008 Report Posted August 17, 2008 I now recall the dash being discussed and pics of that. Thanks for the pics of the Sedan..they look so so different from thier sisters with the rear quarter glass.... I must have been out of town when the other pics were psoted..made couple back to back trips to the mountains Quote
slategrove Posted September 16, 2008 Author Report Posted September 16, 2008 OK, Napa told me they could get the LH Thread Lug Studs...waited 2 weeks to hear from them, finally called them and they said no dice. So I thought, I'll just get the RH Thread, and switch all 10 of them out...they got me 10 RH Thread lug Bolts, NOT studs. They don't show Lug Studs in their parts catalogs. HELP, what do I do? Quote
Don Coatney Posted September 16, 2008 Report Posted September 16, 2008 Did you try a farm impliment store? Quote

Bodacious Posted September 17, 2008 Report Posted September 17, 2008 I'm pretty sure that I have both 1/2" LH lug bolts and lug nuts at the shop, brand new. Let me check tomorrow and I'll let you know if and how many of each I have. Feel free to PM me just in case I happen to forget and don't get back with you real soon. Quote
slategrove Posted September 17, 2008 Author Report Posted September 17, 2008 Bodacious...that would be great if you do have them, PM on the way Quote
Tim Frank Posted September 17, 2008 Report Posted September 17, 2008 These guys can supply studs or/and nuts in 1/2-20NC LH or RH http://automotivefasteners.thomasnet.com/viewitems/threaded-fasteners-rods-and-studs/wheel-studs-and-bolts?&forward=1 Rgds, Tim Quote
slategrove Posted September 17, 2008 Author Report Posted September 17, 2008 Tim, thanks! They look like they have what I'll need. Bodacious, I wanted to clarify that I need the studs, not the bolts or nuts. Thank you guys for all your help Quote

Thank you guys for all your help Okay, I was a little unclear on that. Let me know if the above doesn't work out. I've probably got the studs too, but I'd need the required Dorman part number. I do indeed have some LH 1/2" studs. I found some 1/2" LH nuts today too. But I was unable to find the 1/2" L & R hand lug bolts that these old Mopars take and I know I had some, brand new. Maybe I'll run across them by the next time someone here needs them. Anyway, good luck. Quote
slategrove Posted September 19, 2008 Author Report Posted September 19, 2008 Thanks a lot Guys!!! Ordered the 2 LH thread lug studs yesterday from Automotive fasteners, got them today...and installed!!! Good to go for $.97 each plus minimal shipping charges, (NC to NC). I'm a happy camper...now when I rebuild the generator (waiting on the brushes and end bearing) and replace the regulator...hopefully she'll be ready to drive to the gas station!!! Quote
Frank Elder Posted September 19, 2008 Report Posted September 19, 2008 Many fond memories. Just a hop skip and a jump from Lake City where I was raised. This is the very first more door I have seen in sedan trim! So used to the rear handles being in the other location. I like I like! FRANKIE47 Quote
Tim Frank Posted September 19, 2008 Report Posted September 19, 2008 Glad they came through. I've never dealt with Auto Fasteners but have heard all kinds of good stuff about how they do business. I've also never installed a wheel stud. Presumably the hub has to be off the car to access the back of the hub, and do they have to be pressed in or could you do a "rube goldberg" and feed the stud through as far as it would go and then use a spacer sleeve and and a wheel nut to draw the stud on until it seats fully? Or is there a more detailed process required? Quote
