  1. Someone put an extra key switch in to the left of the steering column on the dash. You actually need to have that switch and the original switch both turned on in order to engage the starter. Weird, but I'll sort it out later....
  2. The rear tires are super old, and someone had spray-painted the rim. I think all Dodge trucks in 1948 had black rims, correct?
  3. The passenger rear fender has damage. We aren't sure how that happened.
  4. More pics: I got a ton of parts with it including carburetors, starters, distributors, generators, starter ring gear, gaskets, oil canisters, oil baths for the carb, and just a ton of other stuff that I haven't even sorted through yet including hubcaps, headlight rings, and I even got the original hand crank for it and it works!
  5. January 7, 2019: Fellas, I'm so excited to share my latest find with you! I have been searching for this truck for a LONG time; I was almost certain it did not exist. And for it to turn up in Minnesota, an hour and a half from me is truly amazing. It's a 1948 B-1-D 5 window Express 1 ton with the 9 foot box. 230 with the 4 speed tranny. Originally came from a grain farm in North Dakota. There's no rust on it, and after further inspection it does look like the original paint, which is Dodge truck red for 1948. Odometer reads 32K. It's not running, but I'm confident we will have it going this week. PO said it was running last summer, but he had lost spark recently. He had it for 5 years and didn't do anything with it. Needs brakes of course. I can handle that on my own. It is truly a survivor! I'm certain the rear bumper is handmade. I don't believe the wood in the bed is original, and I don't believe the seat covering and door panels are original. But they are old for sure. Has anyone ever seen that type of material on these old trucks? Anyway, I have a lot of questions, but I doubt I will get to them tonight. For now guys, just enjoy the pictures. ?
  6. I have purchased a couple of dizzy caps (Standard I believe), and the brass inside is too long. The distributor shaft won't even rotate without each point being milled down. Good to thing I work in a machine shop. As far as points go, all the new stuff is junk. I went with a pertronix kit including the 40000 volt coil. Haven't had any problems.
  7. Just a few miles from home on New years Eve.
  8. Never saw that before. Thanks for posting.?
  9. Welcome! You've come to the right place...
  10. Yeah, sounds like yours runs cooler. I have a 180 thermostat in mine if I remember correctly.
  11. Either at or below the dot...no matter what the outside temp is. I've ran it in 97F degree weather and below zero, doesn't make much difference. I do run Evan's waterless coolant in replacement of standard antifreeze. It's been really good so far.
  12. New Year's Eve: At the market waiting for the girls to come back out. My son snapped the picture. It felt really good to drive the Meadowbrook. I always like to hang on to the big steering wheel and just listen to the engine.
  13. New year's Eve 2018: Drove my daughter into town so she could hang out with a friend. Got a few smiles and waves from fellow drivers and also a few astonished looks. The roads are clear so it's not a big deal. To tell you the truth I'd like to drive the Meadowbrook in deep snow to see how the fluid drive does.
  14. Hey 51, happy to hear that I helped inspire you. We have to drive these cars and enjoy them, we really do! What state are you from? Also, I couldn't take a guess on how many Meadowbrooks are left. Probably more than you think are tucked away. That's what happened to my car....for 40 years until I bought it, fixed it up and started driving it. Maybe someday we'll meet up and cruise together.
  15. Merry Christmas to you and your family Keith! Great photo ?
  16. Christmas Eve: On the way home my daughter wanted to drive. She's 13 and has not driven any car yet. Why not start with the Meadowbrook? She did pretty good. I sat next to her to help with the controls. She drove it three miles home! ?
  17. Christmas Eve 2018: Drove into town to pick up my daughter from a sleepover. Took Mack with. He loves rides.? Pic 2: Warming up by the newly sided garage.
  18. Wow, very nice looking truck! I'm also curious about replacement rims and tires. Hopefully someone will chime in and enlighten us. ? Is your truck a 4 speed?
  19. Dec. 22: We drove about a 60-mile round trip and stopped at Subway along the way. The Meadowbrook ran great and the heater worked awesome as usual. I called it the Christmas Cruise. ?
  20. Dec. 22: Our boxer "Brandi" was really sick so we had to put her down about 3 weeks ago. She could not walk and did not have any control of her bowels. It was a sad day. On the bright side, we adopted this little coonhound named Jojo just yesterday! She is about 35 lb and is a very sweet little dog. She and our male boxer get along great! They have already snuggled up together a few times just since yesterday. They both rode in the car very nicely.
  21. Saturday Dec. 22: Clear roads and about 25F here today, so the Meadowbrook has not been put away for the winter. My family and I piled in and away we went. ? Pic 1: warming up by the garage. Pic 2: ready to pick up the family by the house.
