Yes i plan on replacing them all. Not finding them at McMaster, near as i could find is 1/4 - 20 which would not be acme threads. Do you recall part # from them?
I see them at Lowes but they are also 1/4 inch, and I am pretty sure these are 5/16, that is the outside diameter of the threads and with 1/2 inch hex head.
Not looking for the extruded j nuts like on my parts truck (52) fenders.....those extruded ones can rust up but these will always break free...
I would suspect that anyone with a 48-50 Dodge truck would recognize this part. I need more of the nuts to reattach fenders and wondering what people have done for source. I believe it is a 5/16 - 10 like these from clips and fasteners ( https://www.clipsandfasteners.com/J-Nut-5-16-10-Tapping-Screw-Size-032-064-Range-p/a1907.htm?CartID=1 ). I don't need 50 wondering if anyone has a different source and/or can verify these are the right ones.
Thanks in advance.
There might be some third party stuff that has fuses, but original truck had none. FYI the amp gauge has/is a fusible link so if you dead short it blows, found this out the hard way. On my 49 dodge I am correcting this with some fuse blocks and a fusible link between starter and amp gauge in.
Actually the original Mopar tube radio had a fuse.
Looked at my truck, looks like there is just barely 2 inches there, and the harp can be moved forward on the crossmember with new holes. Also looks like the radiator could be moved to the front side of it's mounting bracket and moved 2 inches with some spacers. Tricky but looks like it could work.
Wouldn't the front motor mount "harp" also need moving? Pretty sure panel truck frames are the same as 1/2 ton frames and the front crossmember that the harp sits on would definitely be in the way and need moving. I will look at my frame and see if there is 2 inches that it could move forward, that also has the radiator support so you get both.
Bell housings are different for 3 on tree than 4 speed on floor, the threaded transmission mounting holes are spaced differently, the engine side is the same.
I also have run without the rivets for years, no problem. For the rubber, I am ordering from the O Ring store ( https://www.theoringstore.com/store/index.php?main_page=shopping_cart ) put -247 in the search window to get what i believe are the proper size. I am ordering 10 because they are 35 cents and shipping and handling is like $7, so if anyone wants my extras (for free) hit me up.
5x5 bolt pattern is the easiest way to determine if it is 3/4 ton, also the 11 inch front brakes. Also the brake anchor bolts on front (that go through spindle) are 9/16 inch instead of 1/2 inch diameter.
So now I have to know your name @Matfirstattempt, one of my sons graduated from Mount Horeb the same year you did. First name Zach, last name the same as the last 6 letters of my handle.
World keeps getting smaller.
I am bad with names, I cannot recall his. Don't worry about condition, his Studebaker pickup is "unrefined" as well, I think your truck actually looks better. However I did get some looks when i drove my parts truck (JR) to the event two years ago by some of the people sporting "full restores" but whatever.
Excellent! I would like to see your ride some day, but it might be later in the summer. Also you might like coming to the annual party at Studebaker Acres around the 4th of July, just down county ID from Mount Horeb, around the 4th of July.( https://www.facebook.com/events/793596124468595/ ). Of course we should try to plan to descend on the SkyVue Drive In sometime with our trucks, assuming they open up this year.
I know that picture is a B3, but it is a parts truck for my 49 B-1-C. Just been driving it for 5 years whilst waiting for parts and time for the 1949. Now i am fully in, hoping to have it on the road by the end of summer. The B-3 been stripped for what I needed for my B1.
Hey Minicooper, regarding that dual master cylinder, do you know if it would work with stock drum brakes? Also interested in more details like how you did the brake lights and which outlet runs front brakes.
Thanks
Trying to figure out the wiring for an electric wiper motor i got to replace a vacuum unit in 1952 B3. I can kind of tell the color of the 3 wires, anyone know the use based on wire color?
