  1. The Anco factory was in my neighborhood in the 40's-50's-60's when I was a little kid looking for trouble. Founded by John Will Anderson of Gary IN. Today there is a boys and girls club named for him which he founded. After I married, my wife went to work there for a short time. Each employee could take home wipers for there own use every six months. There were several annual parties given at the plant for employees and their families, too. Overall, a decent place to work, then they were bought by Cooper industries, makers of Champion plugs, and it went downhill from there. Production is now in Mexico with distribution centers here in the US. We still friend working at their facility in Michigan City IN. Thanks for listening to the ramblings of an old man.
  2. Sadly, no one.
  3. I have a great interest in your disc conversion progress. I'm sure I speak for others when I say that I appreciate your progress pictures. Thanks for doing it.
  4. Picture this, it's 1960, we're drag racing down the middle of 5th avenue in Gary, Indiana. Common? Yes, but I had a white 1950 Nash Ambassador Custom, OHV 6 with Hydramatic. The other kid? A black 1951 Nash Statesman, flathead 6, 3 speed with overdrive. Who won? I don't remember, but I do think about how that must have looked. Sorta like two turtles trying to escape a snail. About as fast too. I still chuckle about that because if we had been seen by the local cops, they wouldn't have known we were racing!
  5. I haven't noticed the pcv valve having any effect on the motor other than a slightly higher idle speed due to the extra air bleed. It's not enough to cause a problem, but I don't have a semi-auto trans, either.
  6. I don't belong to the POC because I don't see any benefits. Everything I need or want to know is available right here. For free, and no one repremands me for what I do or think. I don't think it should be the aim of any organisation to make one of their basic tenets to discourage the efforts of others. What right do they give themselves to decide what I want with my property? Again, I get help here, quick, honest and friendly without judgement. It is, however, good that they are there for each other to encourage trailer queens.
  7. My wife got one of those for me a few years ago, and we learned right away to keep it from water or rain. I took it all apart again and sprayed each piece with several coats of clear laquer, don't forget the edges. If that masonite-like material gets wet, it starts to swell up and crumble. Remember the paper signs they tied on your bumper with lead wire while you were in there? I picked one up that says "Ruby Falls" on it.
  8. Just curious, but what are the theories on why there is no P-16 ?
  9. I find hard work is fun if you don't have to get it done on time, or at all. Hard work is ok if its not for someone else. Hard work is hard work only if you gotta do it.
  10. That coupe's hook seems to have a rather unique method of holding it down. Mine is a cable operated latch, I wonder how that one operates. I volunteer to make some "operational tests".
  11. Pete, would you do me a favor? I see what looks like a missing lockwasher on one of your flywheel bolts. Just for grins, would you check all your flywheel bolts and clutch cover bolts for torque? It just keeps bothering me that you are tearing into a lot of good work, possibly in vain.
  12. My neighbor, an ex-police chief, saw me with a handful of old Dart and Valiant vin tags that I had for some stupid reason harvested and saved. He said "thats illegal, you know". I said "what, taking them off"? He said "No, possession, and its federal, not state. So I cut them up and tossed them in the circular file. Since then, I have always wondered about how people deal in vin tags and old titles, several of which I still have.
  13. What's the problem? I can still read it. A little color and a quick buff-up, it'll be fine.
  14. This weeks Tractor Supply store ad shows a Goup 1 six volt battery for $29.99 with trade.
  15. I had an Olds with a noise that occured under the circumstances you describe and couldn't come up witha definite reason for. I took it to an old guy that I trusted and told him I thought I had a rod knock. He said if I did, it wouldn't run but a few miles before it came loose, so that couldn't be the problem. I told him I could hear in through the floor when I was in the car. He listened to it and said "I think you have a loose flywheel bolt or two." Dang if he wasn't right. I know its a long shot, but considering the cost of repairs, I think I would look into it before I began taking things apart. Looking is free.
  16. If youre crazy enough to listen this, it might work for you too. Penitrating oil on the center hole, back the shoes off all the way and put two HD screwdrivers 180 degrees apart between the edge of the drum and the backing plate. Alternately prying the drum out. be gentle there, you can bend that cheap sheet metal backing plate.
  17. Tom, do you spend much time at Mr. Whitekeys Fly By Nightclub? Are you into Spam?
  18. Do you think inner tube rubber would work? I've got a lot of that laying around.
  19. To quote our illustrious leader, Red Green, Quando Omni Flunkus Moritati. ( If all else fails, play dead).
  20. 10 lbs should do nicely. I only got mine to 6 lbs and it worked alright.
  21. Theres a Famous Daves in South Bend and several around the Chicago area near the malls. But, When it comes to paper towels and plenty of really good food, there are three Lamberts in Missouri that beat them all. "Home of the throwed rolls".
  22. Karen, we are all so very sorry to hear this news. Nelson gave me a lot of joy reading his messages. We all enjoyed reading his stories and knowing how much we all have in common. Be assured that he leaves only good memories for us of a fine gentleman and a good friend. He will not be forgotten. May God be with you and comfort you now and in the coming days.
  23. I heard once of a guy that took a head in to have it milled and they asked him how it got all scratched up like it was. He said he tried milling it on his own by rubbing it across a flat tombstone several times. Like eating White Castle hamburgers, "It seemed like a good idea at the time".
  24. This has been a very entertaining thread, its got everthing. Humor to information. Its really fun to see whats going on all over the continent at the same time. I am sick of the weather here, so I get to vicariously visit the weather from coast to coast. I find out I don't have it so bad after all. Thats just another benefit. If I pay attention, I even learn about my P-15. Twenty-five words or less? Can't be done.
  25. Great minds think alike. To acheive the same end, I stuck an adhesive sanding disk, fine grit, on a steel plate and worked the carb parts back and forth on it. The same thing you did, only, like everything else, I did it backwards. Story of my life.
