  1. I haven't and There's no leaks.
  2. I've bought a number of things from Roberts without too much trouble, but I did buy a sender from him that has never worked right. I tried new wires, running a ground wire, I even sent it back to him asking them to check it out. He sent me back the same unit with a couple of extra washers telling me that the screws THEY SENT WITH THE UNIT were going down too far. They say that is what caused the brass housings in the unit to spin when trying to tighten the screws. SO, I try to get them tightened without having everything turn. I think the gauge read right for 2 days. That's why I'm thinking about a 1 wire unit. If I could put The face on mine in, It should work with the unit I got from Yogi's, which was supposed to be for my car, but is a 1 wire setup. Wayne P.
  3. I got the same unit as you did from Speedway. I wonder if you could take a single wire gauge and put it in a P-15? Do the 50-54 units have a black face and white #s? Curious minds would like to know....
  4. You have the same sickness I do. Any chance I get I fire it up and go out. I always try to make sure I run it far enough to fully warm it up as has been suggested here. But I do believe it is a type of disease, whether physical or mental, there are varying opinions on that. Just ask my wife:eek:. I believe it is physical because that ol' Plymouth of mine gets my blood rolling and heart pumping every time I take it out.It gets into your blood. My .02
  5. I notice a little difference in rpm. Didn't expect alot, but it does help. I'll tell ya though, the car does seem quieter. And it really stops now. Thanks again, Ed. You shoulda run for POC prez, I know alot of people would have voted for you.
  6. Thought about it but I just wanted to finish up and get some sleep. Besides, I might not have been able to sleep after chili.
  7. Some time ago I picked up a pumpkin with 3.73 gears from Young Ed. The only problem was it had come out of a 53-54 that had the narrow spline axles. My '48 has the wider spline. I had mentioned that to Ed and he said that his Dad and him have changed out the side gears for different splines a number of times.I had never done that and have read if it is not done right you will have quite a howl and wear your gears out quicker. Well. today Ed and his Dad came down and did the operation. I had taken the old pumpkin out at a friend's place. He is a member in our local POC group and has a nice shop. Ed's Dad Jeff did a great job on switching the gears and Ed helped me put it back together. Re-did the back brakes (what was left of them) as I hadn't touched those since I got this car 2 years ago. When I got it I put Charlie's front disc kit on and it has worked so well I never bothered with the back, I know I should have but I have no excuse. Anyway, it was a nice morning with good people and it works great. Quiet and stops well. It was fun standing in the pit putting the pumpkin in, Ed putting the backing plates on as I was tightening the rear bolts, listening to Jeff and Jack swap old stories. And those two do have the stories;). Thanks for the help Ed, things like this is what makes this such a great site.
  8. #1 should be close to 7 o'clock on the on dist. cap.
  9. Glad you're o.k. and they're taking care of it now rather than later when it could be more serious. I just saw a heart Doc and he was talking about doing a procedure where they go in and sear closed one path that the electrical pulses start "jumping". I have a situation where the elec. pulses go the wrong way. The best way I can describe it is it's like a cracked plug wire. The voltage "jumps" across the heart and instead of pushing the blood all the way down and it pools in the top half of the heart. But, enough about that. Heal well and I'm glad they took care of it for you. Wayne P.
  10. First car was a '56 Buick Special. Black with a white top. Had a gas with that car 'till the power steering pump went out. I could still drive it but it took abit to turn it. Paid $75 for it, had it about 1 year and drove the snot out of it. Sold it to a guy for $150. Probably the last time I bought low and sold high:o.
  11. Fred, I got mine from Roberts and it seems to be doing the job. Went on fairly easy with the doors on and it seals well. I was happy with what I got for the price. My .02 Wayne P.
  12. That's all I was able to do at Wis. this year, show up on Saturday. I found Young Ed and Merle and a couple others from the site (Claybill for one). I saw a couple members from our chapter and they said hello but that was about it. I was having a little problem with my clutch and only Ed, Merle and Ed's dad really seemed to want to help. I had the car there but its not a stock color so not many people even acknowledged (sp) it. Didn't get a real "homey" welcome feeling there, Except from "our" people. On here, I almost always feel welcome
  13. Thanks. I've been working on the trim a little at a time. Replaced the rear quarter pieces as they had door dents in them. Just a bit of Mothers polish works good. A couple more pics. I'm going to try and re-size the small ones in the first post.
  14. It's taken me 2 weeks to get the pics in from helping out at the NHRA division 5 race in Earlville, Ia. Took the '48 down there and it ran perfect. Cruised about 60-65 for the 480 mile round-trip and had a great time. Good weather, nice track and friendly people make for an easy work day. Had a number of people take pictures of my car and talked to a quite a few. Wayne P.
  15. I don't know if it's correct but #2 in your first post looks like the one on my '48. Wayne P. p.s. But I know it was an add-on, so, maybe the pic with none is correct.
  16. If Norm will commit to going, I'll figure a way to make it. Heck, it's only 340 miles to Miwaukee from here:rolleyes:
  17. I have to agree with David and the rest.My car is far from perfect, 10 ft.paint job that always has someone ask if it is a "factory" color. Same with the interior. I just tell them it was used as a taxi and that's why it has leather(read vinyl) seats and the yellow paint. Bumpers are kinda beat, little dents and dingys here and there but I drive it and have fun. I put what little money I have in the mechanical end to make it roadworthy. I plan on taking it next weekend on a 440 mile round trip to the NHRA divisional races in Iowa. It looks like a "survivor" and I'm happy with that.
  18. I picked one up when I was with Mac Tools. It has a hex end which a 1 1/4" socket goes on. Pops them babies right off. Well worth the investment.
  19. That's what I did. Works good, you have a nice selection of music. I preset the 40's,50's, and a Blues channel. My kids bought me a plug-in unit. You use a 1/8 plug from the radio to the docking unit, as they call it. I have it in my truck at work and picked up an extra antenna for the Plymouth. Takes me two minutes to pop it out and bring home. Works great in both. Wayne P.
  20. Congrats, Ed. Got yourself a great lady there. Don't know if I can add to help on your car other than possible dist. Malfunction. Can help with your wedding, though;)
  21. I had my am/fm/cd player hooked up to it. Also had a power source (cig. lighter) for my xm power.Handled it fine. Small unit.
  22. If you want one, Dave, I just pulled mine out. Went to 12v. Give you a deal on it,I've used it almost 1 year.Worked great. Wayne P.
  23. I did that test in the manual of running a jumper wire from the field terminal on the generator and the other end to the base of the regular. Charging off the charts. According to the book, replace regulator. I guess we'll have to try that.
  24. I've read in previous posts of people finding lower cost regulators at places like Tractor Supply, Fleet Farm, etc. I'm in need of one and was wondering if anyone knew what part # to look for or which tractors used a similar 6V regulator. Or should I just look through the books? Thanks for any help.
  25. Now it won't charge. Found that the lower thru- screw was on top of the field wire and rubbed through the insulation. Fixed that, put the genny back on and no over charge. Now, nothing. Not charging at all. Tried a couple of tests in the manual, but, I don't know if I fried the regulator or the generator is bad now. It's funny, first it's charging too much and now not at all. Well, I just put in 12 hrs. and I'm tired so I'll sleep on it and probably dream of a giant genny chasing me down the street. Thanks for the advice and we'll keep plugging away. Maybe an altenator would be the way to go......
