  1. Not too many years ago I had a 54 DeSoto with a flathead and Powerflite. The car loved to roll along at 60-65. It seemed to be her happy zone. All stock.
  2. Welcome. I have 2 Pilothouses, the one I use did have a factory flatbed on it when I got it. It got lots of use but after I finish her freshing up she will have a pickup bed. The flatbed was ok for hauling stuff but it always had to be restrained or it would slid around of come off. Plus the deck is alot higher than a pickup. After 25 years I'm ready for a lower bed floor besides the flatbed is wider and the missus won't drive 'cuse it's too wide. The flatbed will be used on the other truck when I do that one. One 230ci and one 440ci.
  3. I have standard bulbs everywhere. I can see and be seen quite well. I made it a point to have very good grounds and clean connections. Not just in the fixtures but on the switches and butt connectors. It has made a world of difference. I do not have reverse lights but will have them soon. I used dilectric grease in the sockets and all connections outside the cab to prevent recorrosion.
  4. The horns on my two trucks have two terminals and the power wire goes to one terminal and the other wire goes up the steering column to the horn button assy. The button provides the ground when depressed.
  5. Where are you located?
  6. I have a set of Stockton wheels. They are not coined and do not fit the rear brake drums but they are the correct offset for duals. They were part of a project I bought. They can be used in the rear as duals if an OEM rim is on the inside. I have been using the OEM rims with no problem, just make sure the locking ring is fully seated and secure.
  7. I didn't know of anything that happened?
  8. WOW you're good.
  9. Thanks. I had looked it up in the past but could not remember where to find it.
  10. Where on the 1 ton rear gear case is the ratio stamped? I saw it posted on this site but can not find it. Does anyone know where on the case it is? Thanks.
  11. One of my part trucks haad the upgrades mirror bracket. It's much stronger but the mirror head still vibrated.
  12. I was able to make the type of mount you are lookin for by cuting a piece of 1/16 in plate to the same size as the bracket and bending a piece of EMT (elect tube) to the same shape and welding them together. The light end of the tubing was flattened in a vise and the holes were drilled. It was hard to tell the difference.
  13. Years ago I put a 340 with a 727 tranny in a 54 DeSoto. I used the 8 3/4 rear from a e-body cuda with 3.23 gears. I used motor mounts from Advance adapters.
  14. I did mine by grinding and sanding anything I could get a disc on and two coats of rustoleum rusty metal primer and two coats of gloss black. The first time I did it, (25 years ago) it held up pretty well with Conn. winters and salt so I did it again.
  15. My first car was a 54 DeSoto Powermaster. 4 drs, flathead and a powerflite trans. After a couple years I swapped in a 340 with a 747 and 8 3/4 rear from a 71 Cuda. Lots of fun to drive around, she looked and sounded factory but ran better.
  16. Same here, Mine had a hole in the frame for a drift pin to beat it out.
  17. My one tons have a banjo fitting on the cylinder and the line attaches to the fitting.
  18. Went to the Cabella's in Ct Friday and no Dodge's only Chevy's.
  19. My 49 1 ton flatbed had a 1/4 inch thick piece of wood between the frame and bed rails. The person I bought the truck from knew the full history of the truck since bought new. The bed was as delivered from Dodge.
  20. I'm running the stock braking system on my 48 1 ton. 15 years and no complaints. Just don't expect to stop like a modern truck.
  21. I soak both filters in mineral spirits(paint thinner). Rinse with clean spirits or carb clean and let dry. Add fresh oil to the line and assemble.
  22. It looks like your springs are undersized also, not enough leaves. They may have been changed in the past.
  23. No holes, they clamp to the edge of the deck lid.
  24. I believe Vintage Power Wagons has NOS fuel pump shields listed in the catalog.
  25. When our youngest son got his license he wanted to drive the 48 one ton. I taught him to drive a stick and off he went. It was the most photographed truck in the parking lot and he was weekly pulled out of study hall because a teacher wanted to see the truck. After he got married his wife wanted to learn to drive a stick and the Dodge was called on again.
