  1. I'm looking for photos of the tail light brackets. I've seen several types but your truck seems to be unmolested.
  2. My first car was a 54 DeSoto and it was the best car I ever drove in snow. The 6 cyl and auto was a good match for low end power and torque and the car was heavy enough to grip the road.
  3. Stockton will make you a new wheel to your specs. They offer the correct bolt pattern in their catalog but they are not inexpensive and from postings here take their sweet old time filling the order. I have not had contact with them about wheels because of this and scoured junk yards for mine.
  4. Welcome to the forum. There are many here to answer your questions, don't be afraid to ask. Where are you located??
  5. Ford, Dodge, Jeep, Divco & IH used the pattern into the 60's. Different offsets were used and will fit. The new imported trucks although they have 6 lugs, they are a very different bolt circle and won't work.
  6. I'm cleaning out unneeded parts. I have a steering box from a B-1-D, it is apart and the steering shaft was cut about 8 inches above the box, otherwise it appears complete. Anyone interested?
  7. After reading about others that have or are putting electronic igns in their trucks I got brave and am working on it. What I thought would be the toughest part wasn't. I got a slant 6 dist. from the local NAPA and after carefull measuring found that I could swap the lower shafts between the units and reassemble. I then very carefully filed the base of the housing to the same diamater as the flathead distributor to slip in the block. I will be installing an alternator along with the electronic ign to make sure I have the complete package. I will let you know how it all works out when done.
  8. I just put together a flat to slant 6 conversion distributor. It was easier than I thought. Disassemble both units and swap the lower shafts including the weights and springs. The newer top piece with the slots fits perfectly on the flathead shaft, make sure you transfer the plastic spacer between the weights from the slant unit. The toughest part was filing the side of the housing where it goes into the block. Use a set of calipers to check progress and make sure it stays round. You even use the flatty hold down bracket. The next part of the project is wiring in the electronic module and alternator charging system. I'll keep you posted.
  9. A new pin set comes with replacement bushings that have to be pressed into the axle. The old ones need to be removed first, if the bushings are worn through and the axle is damaged, then you will need to ream it round and use oversize bushings.
  10. The one I use is a Signal-Stat from NAPA. It has signals and 4 ways. You just have to remember to turn them off. It clamps to the column.
  11. I hope you let your friend that owns the tow truck know what a jackazz he has working for him.
  12. Bob, Do you know anything about this person? Tom
  13. Years ago an old engine builder I know said to stagger the rings. I stagger the compression rings 180 if two rings and 120 if three, the oil rings at 180 each set. The top and bottom ring in each oil set opposite from each other to reduce blow by.
  14. I got my first PH in 88. I wanted a Dodge truck to use for light hauling around the house. The first plan was to built a hot rod but after I got the truck home someone removed the door tag and I didn't know about the blank replacements then. I picked up a parts truck in PA that was in better shape than the first one and now I have the parts truck as my driver. I have since picked up another 1 ton for parts and in the future that may be the hot rod.
  15. Someone posted that they are looking for a locking nut and ring for a 1 ton axle. Send me a PM I have one.
  16. I have one like yours, I haven't seen any other type around here. Southern New England.
  17. Make sure that the brake pedal returns fully. I had a DeSoto that did the same thing and it had several of us scratching our heads. The problem was the pedal did not return to the stop and retained a little pressure.
  18. The inside of the rims from one of my 1 tons are that color yellow. It looks to be factory applied. I like the pinstriping.
  19. I converted my truck to 12v 20 years ago and have been using the 6v horn with no problem. Neither of my trucks have relays, this is the way they were and I didn't change it. One truck is a driver the other is parts.
  20. Someone sells on e-bay 12v replacements for the vacuum setup. Not sure who they are but have seem them listed for many models, prices around $200.
  21. Yes, that looks like it could be it.
  22. I had the same thing, it looks like seam sealer. I'm not there yet but will be soon. My trucks body wasn't messed with before I got it so I'm sure it was factory.
  23. The 360 shares the same belhousing with the other "A" engines(273-318-340-360) and the 440 is the same as the "B & RB" engines (383-400-440-426 hemi). The transmissions might interchange though.
  24. I looked at this truck two years ago and they wanted 3500 then. Low rear gears, 3rd gear howls, it does run ok but the body has been reworked, many poor or improper repairs. The old gentleman that owned it then was proud of the work and it doesn't look bad from 20 feet but get close and it is a different story. It does run ok and they drive it to car shows in warm weather or that is what they told us.
