  1. Highspeed motors.com has them in negitive ground or positive ground. Six volt or 12 volts.
  2. My first car to drive was a 48 Plymouth Coupe that my dad had. After he got rid of that I got a 64 Dodge 440 with the push button transmission. Boy I wish I still had that 64 back but now I have the 48 Plymouth Coupe I learned to drive when I was just nine years old around the dairy and back old sheal dusty roads. I always wanted to get the coupe back as memeries of learning how to drive the stick shift and now I still love it.

  4. I have a 48 Plymouth that I took the steering tube out of to replace the steering jacket bushing and now I need to know how to adjust the gear shift to the right gear in the transmission. The linkage is all hooked back up but my gear shift lever on the column is way off. First gear is way to low and the reverse is way to low if you know what I mean. How do I set it right and how do I know if I am in the right gear on transmission. Replaced the clutch and main seal so everything was disconnected. Need to know how to set the lever assembly. Any help or pictures would be helpful, Thanks in advance, Larry

  7. Anyone know where I can find a clutch disc for a 48 Plymouth P 15 deluxe sedan? The one that is in it now is 9 1/4" and fits a L6 engine. I have tried Napa down here but they don't carry it and act like they can't get it. I have the numbers that are on the fourm Rayloc R740 for disc and Rayloc CA1669 for the assem and they are Napa numbers. But no luck down here. Thanks in advance, Larry
  8. Tim, Thanks for the print out in color for the brake light hook up for my 48 Plymouth. I think this will work the only thing is, is the third wire coming off the back lights is that a ground wire to the body? I will give this a try and I know it will work out just fine. Thanks again, Larry
  9. I was told that you could not run an AC on Positive ground engines. Have you all that have AC installed in your flathead L6 engines changed to negative ground and also from 6 volt to 12 volt? If you can run the AC from a 6 volt postive ground let me know how you did it. Change from a generator to an alternater that puts out more voltage? I once contacted vintage air and they told me that you couldn't go 6 volt positive AC. I would like information on this subject e-mailed to me or just address me.   10. Oldodge41 it would do me a great deal if you would do a color diagram of the wiring of the brake lights for me. This is the wire diagram that is on my 48 Plymouth signal switch and the way I have it wired now. Blue to thrid terminal on flasher Black to L on flasher Orange to Left rear Brown to right rear Green to right front Yellow to Left front Red to stop switch K on flasher to positive power source http://www430.pair.com/p15d24/mopar_forum/attachment.php?

  12. I have the seven wire turn indacator allready on the car and the bulb sockets had the two pens when I got the car a few years back. I guess they will work but I was reading on this today and somewhere in a thread there was a mention of having to change the pins even if you have them. I don't know why I thought a two pin socket was all the same. From reading some of the threads I am confussed on what to do some say use diodes and others say just run a Y wire from the stop switch to the back tail light on the car. So straighten me out on this and I will keep searching the threads to get my brain (as it is) to working. I mean reading it sounds simple but getting in my head is another thing. I would like my parking lights to work and also the signals to work in the front too. Talk about the front lights only coming on when brake is appied sounds like something is wrong. I will have to print out the threads and sit down and go over and over them to get it drummed in my head. Thanks, Larry
  13. Does anyone out there have the wiring diagram to make the turn signals to a stop light as well as turn signal. I know that Don has done it to his car and I have read his thread but he doesn't remember how he did it as his son did most of the work he says. I would like to make three brake lights and also have the turn signals as well. What all do I have to do I allready have the two pins on the tail light sockets for the two pin bulbs so I would think it is just a matter of wiring it in some way. Any help will be appreciated and if you have drawings that would help a lot too. Oh by the way this is on a 48 Plymouth Coupe if that will help.   14. :(I have a 48 Plymouth Coupe that the rear main seal is leaking in so I decided to change it which I thought would be a somewhat a simple job. I not nowing what old car I was working with and being used to doing the more modern cars tried to pull the transmission off the engine insted of pulling the rear of the tranny off. Couldn't for the life of me figure out why it wouldn't come off the engine. Took all the bolts out of the bell housing from the engine and still would't move. I looked at all the threads on replacing the Main oil seal and did I see no where that you have to pull the rear of the tranny off and the clutch plate and clutch before you can get to the bolts on the flywheel. Then you can remove the bell housing if needed. On a automatic transmission that is the way you do it so being the dumb a__ that I am I found out from Goerge today that I went about it all wrong so I guess tommorrow I will put all the bolts back in the bell housing and the engine and start all over with the right way to disasimble and replace the main seal. After talking to George I feel like a real dumb a__. What a stupid mistake. I mean after all I have only changed one three speed standered tranny and it was in a front wheel drive dodge colt years ago. Let me tell you it is hell getting the two top bolts out of the bell housing with the engine in the car. I am not looking forward to putting them back in. Larry
  15. I would think it is attached to the tube as with the steering wheel off I can wiggle the shaft and see it moving on the inter circle of the bearing. It is down the tube about 2 or so inches. I see no way to remove it without taking the shaft out of the tube then maybe I can use the puller to get it out. Thanks for the reply, Larry
  16. Can anyone tell me how to get the top bearing out of the steering wheel tube? It is about two inches down the tube and the steering rod has some play in it I think the bearings inside is wore down. I hope I don't have to remove the entire steering box to get it out but I don't see any other way. Answers? Thanks, Larry:confused:
  17. Well today I got started rewirng the old 48 Plymouth Sedan and I think it is going really well so far. I am doing it one wire at a time so it may take me a little longer to do it but man was it a blast today and can't wait till tomorow to get started back on it. I tell you one thing ever since my doctor put me on these Parkensen pills I don't want to come in the house. Stay busy all day without having to stop when I shake or can't stand up. I think he has finaly hit the nail on the head. It's only taken the doctors since 2005 to come up with this and now I don't know what to do with myself. God Bless him. Anyway I have a question on steering wheels. On the sedan the steering wheel moves up and down and also sidways. My question is does the steering tube suppost to have bering at the top of the tube or a bushing? I will take the wheel off tommrow and see if I can fine out what the cause is.   18. I have always on tube tires and nontube tires done them myself. It is an easy way to do it with another car just put the tire on the ground and take the other car and drive on the tire as close to the rim as you can get. Pops loose without the work of tire tools and the swet. I have never had a tire that this doesn't work with. Plain and simple as my father was old fashion and did this and showed me the same method.     Great to have you join the forum. You will have a lot of advice from good people on here some will tell you what you don't want to hear but most of all it is for your own good. Well guy's after all the discussion on trany's and all the look ups I have done to please the wife into driving the sedan she has read all the information and has decided that she will do the clutch. I have never been so worked up over this little disision to make things easier for her she now said she guessed she could learn the clutch all over again. I think she doesn't want me to spend any money on the conversion but that suits me just fine. She say's that will be a lot more work changing things than it will her learning the clutch. With my fingers crossed and legs crossed we'll see how it goes. And by the way she thanks all of you for the information you have all spent time on for this. I guess I have the luck running in my ball park this time. Thanks guys for saving me a lot of headack over this you all are the best, Larry:D
  21. How does a hy drive trans work? Does it work on the same as an automatic? I have no idea and it would be all new to me. I have given it a thought of changing the engine to a 318 but the wife and I would like to keep it as much orignal as can under the hood of the car. Does anyone have any information on how the different trans work and what would be the cheapest and easitst way to go besides a cluch shifting wife. Larry
  22. Ok Guy's is there a automatic transmision that will bolt up to a 218ci engine that still has a positive ground. My wife would like to know so she can take over my 48 Plymouth four door sedan and drive it as an everyday car. She learned to drive on a stick shift oh about 40 years ago but now that she is used to an automatic she wants me to change the trans. to automatic. I guess that would mean I will have to change the stering coluom out too so she could tell what gear she is in. Any suggestions what I might do to make this change without changing the motor or any other part on the car? I guess I have made a mistake when I bought it some years back that I got it for her.(?Dummy) oh well she loves both the 48's and I guess that is a blessing.   23. One of the places that I have delt with on carpet and interior is stockinteriors.com they are pretty freindly people to deal with. They will send you some samples of what ever color you want to compare with the interior that is allready in the car or if you want to do it all.   24. I have a 48 Plymouth Sedan with a 218ci engine and the oil filler tube is loose where it goes into the engine. I can wiggle it about an 1/8 of an inch in all directions. One of my oil leaks on the engine is coming from there. My question is there suppost to be an oil ring that goes on it to make a tighter fit or is it just suppost to be a tight fit like it is pressed in the engine? The one on my 48 coupe is tight in the engine like a pressed fit. If it is just a tight fit do you think a muffler shop could expand it a little to make it that way or what else should I do?   25. On my 48 Plymouth coupe just to do the front part of the back and the top of the seat itself ranged from one shop of $475 with 3 yards of materal. Took it to another shop that quoted me $275 to do all if I bring the seat in. This shop is a one man operation and has been in bussines for 30 years. I have seen some of his work and man he does a supper fine job so guess where I'm going. Larry:rolleyes:
