  1. thanks for all the good information on the sedan. I know it has taken me a few days to give thanks but nerves acking up the last few days. Thanks, Larry:)
  2. I do believe that Tom Skinner is right on the freeze plug being in bassackwards with all the ones I have dealt with and from the pick you posted it needs to be turned around and hammered in. Make sure that you have it started in straight and when you hammer it in the engine it will swell up to plug the hole other wise it will just pop back out. At least all the ones I have done the cup part goes in toward the engine and the round part goes out otherwise it will not spred the plug it will get even smaller to the hole. Larry
  3. If these pics don't come out I guess I am just to darn dummass. Anyhow I need a little information on the items in the pics. The back of the front seat at the bottom there is a peice that I think is a foot rest for the back seat people to rest their feet on. My question on this is does it get covered with carpet or the cloth on the back of the seat? Next thing is under the dash of the car there is a looks like a switch with a cable going to it and under the hood there is a round thing that my negative battery cable goes to. /The car is still 6 volt positive ground. Question is what is this thing under the dash and under the hood of the car? My guess is it is some kind of power shut off? Thanks for the information in advance, Larry
  4. I hve a 218 engine in the 48 sedan I have and the oil filler tube is loose. I can take my hand and wiggle it around don't know what the problem is that it is so loose. Do these tubes have O-rings that hold them tight or our they just supose to be a tight fit like a drive in fit? Thanks, Larry:confused:
  5. I don't know about Ca. but here in Texas all you have to do is go down to the DMV and ask for a paper to fill out for a lost title. They will find it in their computer and issue a new one for you. Can you get or did you get a bill of sell when you got the car? If you did or can get one that makes it a lot more easier too. Larry
  6. I hope this will work for you I know the ones that I put on the two cars and truck did the trick for me. Larry
  7. Jeff I got the one way gas/diesel valve from autospares of comber their address is 33-37 mill street, comber, co down bt23-5eg united kindom. Their customer service line is 02891871199 and their e-mail address is ascomber@btconnect.com. Mine was a 5/16th fuel hose one way valve part # 360144846523 and only took a week to get to me. I paid with shipping and all $8.90. they worked really well with my 48 Plymouth coupe, 48 Plymouth sedan and the old 52 Ford pickup which on the pickup I had installed an electric fuel pump also but it didn't seem to work right untill I put the valve in. Anyway I hope this will solve your problem. I also placed the valve as closed to the carb as possible which was right before the fuel pump and now all I do is pump the foot feeder (gas pedal) twice and engine kicks right off every time. Good luck and welcome to the forum. Larry
  8. First of all welcome to the fourm here, there are a lot of nice and wise people that can just about tell you anything you want to know about these old Plymouth's. I have two 48 Plymouth's one's a two door coupe and the other is a four door sedan. I had a hard time getting them both to start checked the fuel pump and no gas so as you I primed the carb and fired right off but after it set for an hour or two back to priming the carb again. I finilly bought a one way valve to put into the gas line for around $9 including shipping and now all I have to do is pump gas pedal twice and she'll fire right up. I also had a 52 Ford pickup with the same problem so I put an electric fuel pump on it but untill I installed the one way valve it did the same thing. Just my two cents worth that happened to me. Larry
  9. I went down to Radio Shack and picked up a bulb like a flashlight bulb and sodered a wire to it then grounded it to the small plate that holds the emblem on to the hood. Run the wire to the headlight switch and it only comes on when lights are on. Cost six bucks for two bulbs and some wire. Works really nice and the bulb is really bright. No way am I paying for the orignal like on e-bay for $346 bucks that's crazy.
  10. I have a 48 four door sedan that has that on the back of the front seat and I don't know what to do with it. I am getting the seats redone and also replacing the carpet in the car. As it sits right now there is no carpet on the boot rest nor is there anything that goes down the back of the seat to cover it. Just plain metal sticking out there now. My question is how is it covered by the carpet or by the back of the seat meteral? It also appears to have a place where a rope like what is on the inside of the doors have might attach to it. Any feedback on that too? It is like the second pic on 42dodgeguy put on the fourm. Larry
  11. Why would that have anything to do with the radio. I would think if it was for it that it would be located on the radio it's self and not the gas gauge. I know other people that run radio's in their car and don't have one of these attached to the gas gauge so in my opinon it is something else but as I said I don't know what it is so you might be right how knows. Larry
  12. Ok Guys, Can anyone tell me what the little round thing on the back of my gas gauge is and what is it's purpus? It has current going through it and that is all I know. Gas gauge fluxuates from full to a half and quarter of a tank I was just woundering if it is the cause. Thanks, Larry
  13. The two 48 Plymouth's that I have are from my young years when I learned how to drive the one my father had when I was only nine years old on and around the dairy that we had at that time. When my father decided to sell it after having it for around 10 years I was pissed so I made my mind up I was going to own one or two when I left home and got married. These two cars bring back a lot of memeries of my young days http://www430.pair.com/p15d24/mopar_forum/attachment.php? http://www430.pair.com/p15d24/mopar_forum/attachment.php?
  14. On my 48 plymouth the fuel pump has a straight piece that goes on the cam. Now I had a 52 ford truck that had a little cup like thing on the end that went over a rod in the engine. I have never heard of one on a plymouth before at least not on a 218ci engine. Larry

    Rain

The third pic is of the garage but it is high and dry it would have to come up another 15" to get into it where the two 48's are parked and to get on the drive way in front of the garage. Larry

    Rain

Hasn't rained in about eight months and today came down all at once to make up for the dry spell. http://www430.pair.com/p15d24/mopar_forum/attachment.php?attachmentid=32555&stc=1&d=1326150229

  18. I need these two parts for a Plymouth 218ci engine they are for the heater hookup one is on the water pump and the other is on the back of the engine.
  19. thanks for the information guy's on the vacuum canister on the 48 plymouth. What I have been looking at is one like Don has on his car in the pic he has on here. I don't know if he has a one way check valve on his or not. Do you Don? Thanks in advance, Larry
  20. Hey guy's if I added a vacuum canister to my 48 plymouth would it make the wipers work any better or at least still work when I accelrate. I know that I can go eletric but really don't want to. Thanks in advance, Larry:confused:
  21. Thanks for the information I will try those and see if it works. Larry Brauer
  22. :confused:My 48 Plymouth four door sedan I have the gas guage says full when you start the car but then after a while it will go to 1/4 tank and move back and forth between 1/4 and a 1/2 tank. The tank is full so can anyone tell me what the matter is and why it is doing that way? Thanks in advance, Larry Brauer
  23. Ok guys I got a new dimmer switch for the 48 plymouth and the lights come on now but only on bright. Push the dimmer switch and the lights go out. Anyone have any suggestions on what is wrong with the lower lights and why they go out when dimmer is hit? Thanks for any responce, Larry:confused:
  24. Yes Greg I do have one of those test lights and have used it a lot on different things. I will test the dimmer switch tomorrow morning to see if it is putting out any voltage to the head lights. Thanks for the responce, Larry
  25. Well Ed you hit it right on the nail with checking the dimmer switch. There was a wire that had come loose on it, hooked it up and had power to lights the only thing is now the lights will not change from bright to dim. I'll try what Greg suggested to do and if that will not work here comes the other question when I get a new dimmer switch does it have to be a 6 volt one or will a 12 volt work. Remember my car is still 6 volt positive ground. And one more thing if I add a 30 amp fuse will it go from the key switch to the light switch or on the power wire to the dimmer. Thanks for all the responces and help, Larry:o
