  1. There used to be a restaurant in Fennimore (SW Wisconsin) called "The Silent Woman" Their sign was a cutout of a woman serving food. However, this woman had no head. It created a lot of contraversy in the area, or so I was told. The food was good though. Seems that they went out of business a couple of years ago. Merle
  2. I like the galvanized bucket for the condiments too. Do they bring out another bucket for the bones and such? Those are the "classy joints". Merle
  3. WOW!!! That looks complicated. Trucks are so much simpler. And if I had a non Fluid Drive truck it would be even more simpler. Merle
  4. I don't understand exactly why it happens, but it does happen a lot. I see it often. That's why there are "Speedy Sleeves" available. Merle
  5. Since the cat apparently came from Florida where the phrase originated, it must have blown in there during a hurricane.
  6. I have one set in my daily driver (company) pickup. One (light weight) set in my motorcycle. At least 2 sets in my garage, 1 of them I made out of 0 gauge welding cable, 30' long with 300 amp clamps, when I was a full time field service technician on construction equipment. And 1 jumper pack. Plus one 2/10 amp 6/12 volt battery charger, one 6/12 volt 1 amp motorcycle battery charger, and 3 battery tender chargers. I don't much care for dead batteries. Merle
  7. Just heard on the radio news this morning that they found out that that bridge had been put on a list of bridges in serious need of structural repair a couple of years ago. This was apparently on the national Bridge Inspection Inventory register (or something like that) Sounds like it was a disaster waiting to happen. Too bad it takes something like this to wake up the people in charge. Glad you escaped it, Ed. Has anyone heard from Dennis? He's in that area too, yes? Merle
  8. I've seen automotive 6 volt batteries come in two different sizes. I believe they are refered to as Group 1 and Group 2 batteries. I have the larger of the two in my truck. I was able to get mine at my local Farm & Fleet store. I know of others that got 6v batteries from other battery supply houses, such as Batteries Plus, or from Napa, Sears, Walmart, or other auto parts stores or Agg supply outlets. They shouldn't be that hard to find, although they aren't as prevelant as the 12v batteries. Merle
  9. You could always just swap out the diff. It would probably be easier that swaping the whole axle anyway. Especially if you have to redo the brakes on the donor axle. Merle
  10. The dual piston cylinders have different sized pistons as you say. Be sure to put the larger piston to the rear.
  11. Reg, just float your Party Barge down there and bring it home. "Road Trip"... er, I mean "Sea Voyage"
  12. Originally, yes. 6 volt positive ground.
  13. I'm assuming you are referring to what's written on your title? That all depends on how the original salesman filled out the paperwork. The serial # looks like it is probably correct. Getting your DMV to change it could prove challenging. With my truck the Iowa title had the serial # missprinted with an "S" in place of a "5", and it's also titled as a 1951 model instead of the 1950 that it is. When I registered it our Wisconsin DMV put the Iowa Title # in as the truck's serial #. Luckily I had make a copy of the Iowa title before I sent it all in. I took my copies of my original paperwork in to a DMV office to get it corrected and was first told I'd have to bring in the vehicle to have it verified. Well, since it's in pieces all over my shop, that isn't an option. AFter showing them the copies of the originals they finally realized their mistake and corrected it at no charge. However, the serial # is still missprinted with the "S". I even brought a picture of the serial # stamped into the frame as proof that it should be a "5". I figure that I'm the only one that'll see the title anyway, at least until I sell the truck which I have no plans to do, so why should it matter. I know what it is. Merle
  14. 1/2 and 3/4 ton trucks have two cylinders on the rear brakes and a single twin piston cylinder up front. 1 tons use a single twin piston front and rear, according to my manual. I've forgotten which truck you have. $30 per cylinder is about right for those dual rears if that's indeed what you have.
  15. When I got my truck the manifolds were already removed and seperated. I soaked the heat riser shaft for a long time and it still wouldn't come loose. I finally put a little heat to the manifold where the shaft goes through. It freed right up. Moves freely now. Merle
  16. Here's a cool little tid-bit that was just emailed to me. Check it out http://oldfortyfives.com/CarsWeDrove.htm Be sure to have your speakers on.
  17. Has it been that long, Don?
  18. Don, think "Trojans"
  19. "Restored" seems to mean different things to different people. I am trying to stay away from that word when refering to my truck. It'll be more like "Revived", "Resurected", or just "Returned to operating status". Good luck with your truck, Merle
  20. Once you get the brake drum off, you may want to pull the axle shaft to repack the bearing and replace the seals. You'll need some kind of puller for that too. I've had some success with a large slide hammer puller, but I've also had luck by putting some type of spacers between the backing plate flange and the brake drum then tightening the axle nut to pull out the axle. If your '60 is indeed the same setup as my Pilot-House you should be able to match up your seals at Napa. Once I got my seals out I took them to my local Napa and they were able to cross reference the numbers and get me new seals. There is an inner seal to keep the axle oil out of the wheel bearings, and an outer seal to keep the wheel bearing grease out of the brakes. Here's a scan from my service manual.
  21. I'm about 120 miles south of there. However, the company I work for has a shop/yard there and I might be able to arrange something if no one else can take care of it for you. Merle
  22. Yes, I noticed a few of those that got caught by my Spam filter. It seemed strange that "Friend" or "Pal" had sent them. No real names. The links didn't look right either. I just cleared them out with the rest of the spam.
  23. The windows you are seeking are just standard flat laminated automotive glass. Any quality auto glass shop can make them if you have a pattern. If the glass is missing you'll need measurements or a pattern for them. If the glass is there, but broken, remove it carefully and take it to them for a pattern. And on this same subject, if you are needing the rubber molding for your windows, I recommend Steele Rubber Products. They're a bit more expensive, but it's a much better product. Good luck with your project. Merle
  24. Well, that's not confusing... It's in the south west corner. Fayette County? Southeast of Uniontown on Hwy 40. At the Summit Inn
  25. Is this what you meant by straight vs. bent? If so you can remove the cover and index it the way you need it. Or are you refering to the shape of the arm that contacts the cam? If that is different than you have the wrong pump for sure. Try taking the pump to Napa or your local part store. They can probably get one for you. They may be able to cross reference any numbers on the old one. Merle
