  1. When I needed to straighten up the cab on the 1-ton, I put a trolley jack between the running board and the cab floor just to get the weight off of the rear cab mount, then kinda shoved the door frame and rechecked the gaps. The jack wheels allowed the cab to move a tad without any metal-on-metal screeching.

  8. Back in July 1991, we had a partial solar eclipse that peaked late in the afternoon. It was blazing hot that day, but cooled off noticeably so that late shift work was tolerable for the first time in weeks. What struck me was how different everything looked as the sunlight changed colors during the eclipse...this'n did not reach totality, so it did not get dark as much as dusk-like. This eclipse is supposed to reach totality just as the sun is directly overhead, so that'll be something to experience. Though the grumbling of being overrun by tourists all through the countryside has some of us concerned, especially as county officials have declared a state of emergency for technical reasons concerning 911 resources. Traffic could grind to a halt, so locals are preparing like a hurricane is en route by closing govt offices, schools, and businesses, and telling ppl to stock up on everything. We have wheat, corn, and hay crops that could be wiped out by thoughtless trespassers, to add to possible misery. Then there is the reality that it might be overcast and/or raining that day, cuz it's springtime in Texas...which is what some of us are kinda hoping for, to keep the out-of-town knuckleheads away
  9. Looking at the factory shop and parts manuals, there is a gasket between the vac.actuator and the sleeve that bolts to the carrier, but no oil seal on the actuator rod. So I reckon that some gear oil is allowed to lubricate the rod at the vac.actuator.
  10. NICE...them extra holes in the bumper make me wonder if'n that buggy had a brush guard at one time...and since the underhood wiring appears intact, I'm guessing that some cats took shelter in the truck on occasion.
  11. •fuel pump splash shield: that large hole lines up with the fuel pump sediment bowl, mounting holes should line up on frame raol and cross member •distributor splash shield: the non-flat piece mounts on steering gearbox frame stiffener and frame rail
  12. additional information - B-series brake drum replacement (11")
  13. That info should be in the highly useful factory shop manual, I found a reproduction from Faxon that was quite reasonable...fits in nicely on the bookshelf with the other shop manuals

  17. The styled fender on the B4s had a bracket aft of the wheel opening, but the round fender on the B-1 B-2 & B-3 bolted directly to the bedside without any other brackets...the homemade and aftermarket bumpers I've seen all wrap around the rear of the bed so that the bumper stiffens the fenders as well as allowing a step up into the bed. I'm gonna guess that bracket that's on your buggy is a homemade stiffener cuz if'n that fender got snagged on a mailbox or sumthin-ruther, that fender might have been flapping in the breeze and making an unpleasant noise for the vehicle occupants. additional information - pilot-house bumpers
  18. As far as I know, Dodge did not advertise tow ratings until the 60s, just payload capacity on Express (pickup & flatbed) models. The optional bumper did not have a provision for towing either. Aftermarket bumpers sometimes had a mount for a ball or tongue hitch; I've seen many examples of homemade drawbars on trucks of this era also...my favorite has been the repurposed pasture shredder blade under the box of a B-2 2-ton grain truck.
