  1. Thanks Tod You answered my question before I could ask it.
  2. Picked up a sender from my friend's donor car today. It does not function either, but it is a good candidate for adding a new universal sender to it. I can get a universal 1 wire sender with the appropriate ohm ratings for just over $20. Will try to do this week and post pictures and updates. Thanks to everyone for the info.
  3. I had bought an universal sender and that was my initial idea. But, the mounting flange on the universal one was a 5 hole pattern and on the original it is held in by the locking plate. I thought about trying to retro the 2 into making 1, but figured I would end up with nothing and possibly bugger up my tank in the process.
  4. I used my meter and went from the terminal and used various spots on the shell itself. I made sure I had a good connection and then moved the float up and down and no reading.
  5. Trying to confirm fuel sender for my car. 1950 Dodge Special Deluxe (Cdn. version of Plymouth Special Deluxe) 6 volt positive ground. Parts manual lists it as 1240864. It is a single terminal sender. I will attach pictures. Is number P232 from Roberts the correct replacement? It is listed as for 49 - 57 cars. Andy Bernbaum's P-193 is listed as for 49 - 55 Dodges. Gauge seems to work, slams to full when I ground the wire. I could not get any resistance when I had the sender removed and was moving the float so I presume the sender is faulty.
  6. http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=270628909397&ssPageName=ADME:X:RTQ:MOTORS:1123 Here is the one I ordered and it is on it's way. He charged me $10.50 to ship it, but I couldn't find anything locally.
  7. That is why Canada adopted the Metric system. 99.9 cents for gas seems cheap.
  8. Can you send these to me too. Shipping is killing me. Thanks Neil
  9. I scanned the wiring diagram from my service manual and am making my own. I plan to upgrade a bit but for the most part will replace what is there. It will not be authentic but will be functional and safe.
  10. We (?) adopted the metric system in the 70's so gas is now sold by the liter. Regular gas in Saskatoon, Saskatchewan is 99.9 cents per liter. One imperial gallon is exactly 4.54609 litres, whereas one U.S. gallon is exactly 3.7854118 liters. One imperial gallon is approximately equal to 1.201 U.S. gallons. So, gas is $3.77 a US gallon here.
  11. I arrived early to get a good spot, lot filled up quickly. Mostly muscle cars and Hot Rods.
  12. Great picture, Bob. I just committed to going to the Dusty Wheeels Car Show in Rosetown, Saskatchewan that I have been toying with, at the end of September. it will mean a lot to my in-laws, it is their home town and something that my father-in-law was always going to do next year(the car was in his shop for 18 years) and after his stroke, 2 1/2 years ago, next year never came . 60 miles one way. Thank you for all our pictures and encouragement. Neil 1950 Special Deluxe
  13. I am very happy to say mine are too big. After you leave home, when are you supposed to wear them? You can't wear them out to the pubs, it shows you are underage.:) Pretty good, since they are 27 years old.
  14. Here is a picture of a 48 Chevy convertible from our club. Mine is the one beside it.(More of a before picture) (Not sure what the after picture will be like, actually if all goes well, the after picture will look just like it except refreshed.)
  15. Keep telling me the good stories, I need to work up the courage to check/change mine. For now I am going with no news (over heating issues) is good news. The more I read, the less scared I am. That being said, I always am surprised whenever I start a small/easy(?) job. Thanks again, Neil
  16. I might have all 5 letters. I have them off of a 49 Coranet. I bought them for my car, a 1950 Dodge Special Deluxe and they did not fit. They are about 1 and 9/16" long and about 1/2" high. Let me know if these are what you need.
  17. Bob Great pictures, as always. You have a great eye for great pictures. Every time I see them I think, how can I come up with ideas and locations like that? I have not done much with my car other than short drives around Saskatoon and plan for the winter. I have some projects lined up, but for now I do not want to do too much other than enjoy it. Neil
  18. I grew up on a farm here in Saskatchewan, about 20 miles South of nowhere. Our well was 12 feet deep, the water was not treated with anything, my dad sent samples away every year and it always came back fine. I never realized water was an issue until I moved to Saskatoon at age 20. But, as a kid I did not realize T-Bone steaks were a treat either. And, I was about 14 before I learned that you needed a licence to hunt wildlife and that you were supposed to do it only during hunting season. Oops my dad and his friends missed that part of parenting.:)
  19. Keep the dice, I have a set on my car as well. They are our local footballl team, the Saskatchewan Roughriders. I bought some NOS seat covers off of Ebay that I will put on in the winter, I need to remove the seats to put them on so it can wait until winter. I will post some before and after pictures when I get them installed.
  20. Congrats on that Fred. Both my teenage boys (13 and 16) play soccer. My youngest is in a tournament this weekend and we are taking the old car to tomorrow morning's game. (8am) It is a great game, I drive them all over Saskatchewan for it. But, I like to remind myself: They are not at the Bus Mall spitting or scaring retirees. They do grow up FAST. Enjoy them while you can. My oldest boy is taking mechanics in High School, so I am already scheduling freebees. Unfortunately for them, my boys look like me.
  21. Were you able to do the alignment yourself, or did you have to take it in? I have the parts but have not started that yet. I was told to measure before I started to dismantle anything and then try to reproduce that measurement after changing the ends. I have the shop manual and have been reading up on it.
  22. 1980/81 Special Edition. About 1 mile long
  23. Our auto club (Saskatoon Antique Auto Club) had our annual Car Show at the Dakota Dunes Casino, about 20 miles south of Saskatoon. It was a milestone for me as this is the furthest I have been from home with my car. The car ran well, I was able to easily go 50-55 mph and for the most part keep up with the flow of traffic. We had about 50 cars there. I will attach photos of my car and a couple of other Dodge/Plymouths and a couple of interesting ones as well.
  24. My gas fitter is going to use plastic with fused connections at each end and then threaded pipe where it is exposed. Thought about using a pressure water gun but trying to do it on the cheap and my labor is free.
  25. I am installing Natural Gas to my garage so I can heat it and more easily work on my car during our winter. Gas fitter is coming Monday so I need to be ready, we have had over 3 inches of rain this week. I have to lift some patio blocks tomorrow to finish the trench to be ready, but it will be worth it this winter when I can flip a switch and work comfortably on the car. I seem to prefer to do things the hard way.
