  1. Yes, the owner told me it has a Richards body. And the car does have three spares - we joked that buying tyres will be expensive!!!
  2. Guys, I went to a car show today. Weather was VERY cold and a bit wet, but there were some lovely cars. Coming back, I was two streets from home and I saw a 36 Dodge parked, ready to be put into a garage. Turns out the car had been at the same show. I hadn't seen it and the owner hadn't seen my Plymouth. I didn't even know of the car and it's been in the UK for two years. It Australian, Right Hand Drive. Beautiful. Pic attached of the car, when it was in Australia. I've recommended this Forum, so I hope Simon signs up.
  3. Hey guys, I was just trying to use the comparison to illustrate the point that either Chevy and Ford are overpriced or Mopar is undervalued. I think it's great that we can have such great cars for less cash. And the 40s Mopars are certainly (at least) the equal of the other makes. It seems like we are guardians of the classic car world's worst kept secret!!!
  4. Guys, This fairly tidy looking P15 convertible failed to meet its reserve on Ebay and hit a top bid of only $15,300. http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/Plymouth-Special-Deluxe-1948-Plymouth-2-Door-Convertible_W0QQitemZ260218996827QQihZ016QQcategoryZ6387QQssPageNameZWDVWQQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem This rough Ch*vy is already at $12,000 with 5 days to go! http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/Chevrolet-Fleetmaster-Convertible-Street-Rod-1948-48-Chevy-Chevrolet-Convertible-Street-Rod-Rat-Rod_W0QQitemZ160219133076QQihZ006QQcategoryZ6173QQssPageNameZWDVWQQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem Everything's in the name!!!
  5. Sounds like the wiper motor valve is slightly open, even though wipers are 'off'. Can you hear any hissing? I'd take the hose off at the carb/manifold end, plug the hole and try to start the car to see if you then don't need the extra gas. If that works, looks like the wiper motor needs a fix or adjustment.
  6. No big issues. Just let MIke know what the application is, so he supplies the correct pulley. Then you'll need to fabricate a bracket (or speak to him regarding options on those)
  7. I got a 6v +ve ground alternator from this guy http://www.mikes-afordable.com/miva/merchant.mv? I'm quite happy with it. The (more pricey) units, fitted into original generators are at http://www.gener-nator.com/index.htm Has anyone used this service? I'd be interested to know how the unit performs.
  8. Guys, This place was just featured in a UK newspaper. Looks like a time-warp trailer park. Has anyone been there? I have some friends who are already considering making a trip from the UK, to stay in one of the trailers. Here's the link... www.theshadydell.com/index.html Would love to know what the place is really like. Thanks. Robin.
  9. I also fitted a modern telescopic antenna, fitted through the original hole.
  10. Hey, I just wondered what the rich(er) people think about this, so I searched Beverly Hills and tried to zoom in. You can't get in to such a high resolution, for that area. So it looks like Google think it's OK for anyone to look at close-ups of our homes, but not the homes of the rich & famous.
  11. If so, please check this article which lists a 47 Plymouth convertible at a classic rally. http://webarsiv.hurriyet.com.tr/2002/10/26/199152.asp
  12. The Dodge 230 has the same dimensions, so the intake and headers from the 218 will fit.
  13. I think your choice of tyres must be based around the type of driving you do. I use my P15 in and around London. Lots of city driving and, inevitably, lots of reverse (parallel) parking. I tried radials on my coupe, but the weight of the engine over those soft tyres made slow-speed manoeuvring really difficult. I switched to bias ply wide whites and it was so much better. I wouldn't consider going back to radials. At speed on the motorway (freeway) the car handles fine and doesn't seem to follow the ruts to any great extent. I think it's a case of having the front-end tight and the geometry set up correctly. Another point to consider is that you might not be able to run tubeless on vintage rims - it will depend on the condition of your wheels. Good luck with your shopping. Robin (UK)
  14. Hey guys, I have a new girlfriend. And guess what.... She's a model. WOW! 1:43 scale. Much better than the real thing. She never answers back. I can be a rude as I like to her, and she just keeps on smiling. By the way, I CAN make friends. In a mold!!! They are also 1:43 scale but some of them are a bit taller than the others, so I'm starting to worry that my little pretend world is less than perfect. Anyway, here's a picture. She's a babe, I'm sure you'll agree. ...And if you don't, I'll insult you, kick and scream and hold my breath until I get sick. Sorry. I couldn't resist it. Just a bit of fun for a Sunday afternoon.
  15. Welcome aboard, Michael. I've spent many happy hours enjoying Johnny Horton's music, out on the Honky Tonk Hardwood Floor! Great to hear of another P15 in Europe. Would be good to see some pictures of your car, when you have a chance. Best wishes. Robin.
  16. Guys, We are in the early stages of planning for a family trip to Florida in the Summer. Probably the first two weeks of August, or thereabouts. Are there any sights that you would recommend us to visit (or recommend we avoid)? Hoping to arrange a two-center stay, Orlando/Miami. We have already earmarked the Kennedy Space Centre, Kissimmee Old Town Cruise, Miami South Beach (Art-Deco District), The Keys and The Everglades. Anything else? And are there any good car shows or swapmeets? Car museums we shouldn't miss? Would be great to get some pointers from the experts (you guys). Thanks. Robin.
  17. Hi Joe, I imported the car in 2004. Got it from a dealer in Florida, after seeing it on Ebay. I ran a 48 P15 Coupe for 9 years prior to buying the 'vert. That coupe is now owned by a friend. I know my car was supplied new by Gettysburg Motors, Gettysburg, PA, but I don't know its history between then and the mid 1970s. I'd love to know more. Anyway, glad to hear that you like it. Very best wishes from England. Robin.
  18. My set-up has no heat risers to the intake. British weather is not generally warm but everything's always been OK. I run the car throughout the year.
  19. Hey Fireball, My Plymouth is away at the trim shop at the moment, otherwise I'd have happily hooked up with you to take you for a ride. In Farnborough, there is a well-known hot rod shop called North American Motor Company (the guys who have done some of the hop-up work on my car). If you have time, it might be worth you dropping in to see what they are doing. They often have some great cars in there and on the forecourt. Check their website at http://www.northamericanmotorco.com/home.htm if you drop in, say hello from me to Billy and Myles .
  20. Hey Guys, I just got my convertible into the community pages of Jay Leno's website. I don't think there's another P15 on there (yet). See it at http://www.jaylenosgarage.com/your_garage/cars/6765.shtml Maybe you could even rate the car? Thanks. Robin.
  21. Those are certainly some good looking parts!!!
  22. That look really doesn't work for me. The steel pan at the front makes it look a bit buck-toothed. Kinda reminds me of another vehicle.....
  23. Thanks Harold, That's great. The part is on the shelf - soon to go on my car. This Forum is SUCH an amazing resource. R.
