  1. I would always get some coal candy which was black hard licorace that looked like lumps of coal. Inside the box was a small metal chrome hammer that you would use to break the lumps into smaller pieces. I was a standing joke that I was getting coal for Christmas. My mom and I alsways baked the Xmas cookies and i have continued the tradition with my kids over the Thanksgiving holiday. Its a great time for keeping the family as a unit and also to make a mess in the kitchen. ANd also you get to sample the finished products before anyone else gets to taste them. he little round cookies that someone was talking about that were rolled is powdered sugar are called Russion Tea Cookies. We also did make them. I remember my gradfather bringing the plum pudding cake and then putting the rum on the cake and then lighing the cake to get it was and then pouring the cream sauce over the cake. Oh the memories of time past. event in bad times the memories are what gets you thought the tough times. Keep the memories alive and the spirt alive and lets keep the Christ in Christmas. We are losing this battle every year. We see more of these rights being taken from us because of politcal correctness, sad but true. Hope everyone has a joyous Christmas with their family and loved ones and remmebr the ones that have left us and gone onto to greener pastures. Rich Hartung
  2. It sold for $1500.00. I do not care how good it looks on the car that is money not well spent in my opinion. I bought a orginal 39 Desoto with a newly rebuild engine for 2200. These parts are getting out of hand. Rich Hartung desoto19392aol.com
  3. I quess there is a fool that likes to part with his moeny somewhere is the world. I have the Ammco tool and also the miller tool with the seven sleeves. And people out there would rather spend the money to buy the tool for a single brake job usage. This brake job now cost 890 just to adjust the shoes or 110 per shoe because of there are 8 shoes onthe car plus the parts. A very expensive brake adjustment job. I must be a very rich guy just with these two tools. Rich Hartung
  4. I think the color of the seat should be a blue if I remember correctly. i will have to check the Truck restoration book. Also the wood inthe bed might also be wrong. i think this would have been a rouch cut white pine and not the highly smooth finished oak and it would have been painted black. AACA has now changed their judging manual and are now deducting point for trucks that have the wrong wooded beds. So if you are restoring a truck that had a wooden floor in the bed make sure you do your research and use the correct color and do not presume that it should be oak with a high polyurethan finish. Most peopel want the oak bed for looks but if your are a purist the be correct. Rich Hartung Desoto1939@aol.com
  5. The November issue of the WPC Walter P Chrysler Club newsletter has a very nice 4 page article on the 1941 Plymouth. I will scan the article and if anyone would like a copy they can contact me at my home email and I will send them a copy of the article. Onthe cover is a picture of a two tone 4 door sedan in maroon and gray. One page lists the Paint codes the color and Ditler codes and also has a listing of the appropriate ditzler code to match a color when the color has weathered. The article discusses the P-11 and the P-12 Special Deluxe but with the P-11 there was a Special Deluxe accessory Package and the P-11 could be sold with this package. Order for this package sky rocketed so Plymouth created a third series P-11D. Production number were P-11 was 97130 and the P-11D was 94542. Here is another intesting fact the cost of the P-11D accessory package was $42 but for and additional $25 the buy could have purchased the P-12 model, but $25 dollars was equal to a weeks pay for the average worker. 6. EDIT: there are actually 2 others listed. One is the perpetual $1999 +$30 shipping. Both are missing the small spacer. May, or may not be needed with the MoPar application, and could probably be easily replaced with a bushing from the hardware store. The small spacer is not essentail for getting the brake shoes setup correctly. The little spacer was used so that you did not have to put the castle nut on all the way on the end of the axile. It was just a time saver for the mechanic. You can cut a small piece of plastic tubing and make the sapcer or leave ir off and just use the castle nut. We are not making a living fixing brakes. I have the tool and have done several brakes jobs and do not use the spacer. I did make one out of plastic. Rich Hartung desoto19392aol.com
  7. Reg: i do ask for a hefty deposit on the tool it is now in the $400 range. I know some people have a hard time writing a check in this amt. But when someone writes a check and I cash the check then I have their money. I have the Miller tool as the backup tool. I have never had anyone stiff me on the tool but this is how at least I can keep the ball in my park in a way. If the renter does not return the tool then I would blast his name on the forum for all to know not to deal with the person and if they are an AACA member I would also notify AACA. Ihpe that I would never have to do that because most people that have antique cars a great guys but it could happen to get a bad apple so I keep my fingers crossed. If I ever get burned then everyone losses out and not just me. Rich
  8. I watch the entire clip and it was odd that there were no trucks on the road but you still had horse drwan wagon and carts. I would like to know if the camera was on a trolley car because everyone was very interested inthe vehicle that was filming the trip. I would suppose that most of the cars would have been model t's and did you notice that none o fthe cars were not smoking out the exhust system. Very odd that people that were driving would cut right in fron of the trolley's and you had to have eyes all around your head. I like how the you gentleman were trying to push or hitch a ride on the one car. Love the dress of the people notice that even people that were driving the buggies even wore top hats and coats. Great piece of history and very interesting to watch enjoyed it greatly. Rich Hartung:)
  9. Sorry not for me either and with the holes is the bad of the bed. I guess he is going to be putting this baby back in storage. Its going to a long time before he gets a buyer. 5 thumbs down Rich Hartung
  10. Do not go overboard onthe use of the starter fluid. The starter fluid has a tenency to strip the oil off the cylinder walls. So if you do not get the car to fire over and run then you have removed the oil and then you have metal to metal. You need to get the car running as quick as possible to get the oil on the walls of the cylinders. Could also be that your coil wire is damp. Clean out the dizy cap and dry it out get the water out the spark plgs holes. get the engine dry as possible. Keep the battery charged. It will fire. Get the car to run at night time with no lights on in the ngine compartment. Look for any blue arcing onthe wires. If this is happening then the wires are going bad and leaking current and they need to be replaced. Do you also have 6v battery cables on the car or 12v battery cable and a good ground strap. Rich Hartung
  11. Todd, If you are watching the cost of these tools they are going for over $300. plus postage so lets say $10. total of 310. Two uses equal 155 four uses 77 etc. For most of the guys they probally will do one complete brake job on their car and then the tool will sit on the self. and they have tied up 310 on a tool that is collecting dust. I baiscally rent the tool out for the cost of postage and ins which arounds around 12 each way or 25. Your brakes are done and then you do not have a tool sitting around. If you pick up the tool for under 50 then you are making out but with inflation this price is not going to be found unless someone is just selling the tool and does not have any idea of the price. But when the item is on ebay if it start low like the one that is currently be bidded on they asking price goes up very fast and continues the process until it gets out of limits for most people. I require a down payment to insure that i get my tool back but never charge a direct rental or usage fee to anyone. If some one ever keeps my tool then they are out the deposit and then they have messed up the use of the tool for everyone else and then I will never lend a tool again. So if someone waht to be stupid then they mess up a good thing. Rich Hartung desoto1939@aol.com
  12. Hank> All of the parts are included with this unit. This gage does not shave off any of the brake lining. Ammco makes another machine to arc the lining. This unit just slides over the axle and pivots on a bearing. Please look at the Tech section there is a power point session that I did on the Ammco gage and also the Miller Brake tool. I lend out the Ammco tool but I require a down payment onthe tool to insue that I get it back. You can wite to me at Desoto1939@aol.com. The rental fee is very reasonable and is not even near the what you would pay to buythe tool and you will probably only use the tool once in your life time if you only have one car. Rich Hartung Desoto1939@aol.com
  13. The current bid as of 12/13 is $296. It will go over $300. Rich Hartung
  14. The owner has a seat cover on the front bottom portion of the seat. Inthe truck you will also notice anohter part of the seat cover. I amagine the part int he trunk is for the back or top portion of the front seat. probably the bottom has some rips so he put the cover onto protect the seat. Rich hartung
  15. It is not just the process of putting on the bonding agent and then put the lining on the shoe. You need to make sure the shoe is goos with no bend or breaks. Then cleaning the old material off and disposing of the old stuff if is the old abestos lining. You will need an oven and also the tool to hold the lining firmly against the brake shoe. Add all of this up and the cost to have someone else do the work that has the experience and operation and tools is much cheaper. Also if you have never done this then there is a good chnace that you might do it incorrectly and thenthe lining could come off the shoe and then cause an accident which even cost you more out of pocket to fix the car, you health bills along witht he potential of lost wages. All in all you are not saving much when you think about it??????!!!!!!! A set of linign might cost you 50-100 dollars all ready done and then you put them onthe car. If you are doing riveted lining this is much easier and can be done by yourself. Rich Hartung Desoto1939@aol.com
  16. The bottom left 3 lighters are for 1939 Chrylser Dodge Desoto and Plymouth. This is the style of knob that I have in my 39 Desoto that has an original lighter. Veru nice collection and card. If you can identify the ligthers than this would be a great pice of literature to send to the AACA library. with the identifcation and use of each lighter. Rich Hartung Desoto1939@aol.com
  17. In the first picture the knobs onthe left side are the repos. The knobs on the rights side the top and bottom ones are NOS and the wiper knob is old and used. The knobs onthe window cranks handle the left is the repo and the right is an original handle with the knob attached. The repo just has the knob sitting on the handle. Overall what is your take on the quality of the repo. Rich Hartung
  18. I have been reading your posts ove rhte past night and day. Are you sure on your predictions. Also look at the window knob carefully and also look at the dash knobs carefully. You might be wrong or you might be correctly I am not telling just yet!!!! Also please comment on the quality of the reporductions if you want to. The more feedback the better. rich Hartung desoto1939@aol.com
  19. On my 39 Desoto I have the harmonic balancer or vibration dampener. rich Hartung
  20. I think the owner did a very nice job on the conversion. It definately will get people talking and asking questions and what a great way to save some part of the car. I would like to know what chasis it is own and the engine that they have init and did they put on disk brakes? Rich Hartung
  21. Gentleman, There has been several threads onthe reproduction knobs that the gentleman in Florida has been selling on ebay. I order several of these knobs and have painted the dash knobs. I have taken several pictures of the knobs. In the picture of the dash knobs there are two ros of knobs one row is NOS and the other is Repro. I also have a picture of the window handle with NOS handel witht he knob and another with the repro knob. Now its your time to figure out what is Repro and what is NOS. After several days I will post how many people have gotten the results correct. You can also send me your response to my email or post this online, The challange to tell me is now on!!!! Have fun! Sorry that the pictures are not better but this is the best I could do with my camera. Rich Hartung Desoto1939@aol.com
  22. Jim, I use the hotshot pin stipping paint to do allof my lettering. I dab some onthe knob face and the wipe off the excess. I will post before and after shots for the club. Rich Hartung
  23. The glovebox lock number 798636 this is for the 39 Desoto and Dodge according to my parts listing for both these cars. I also have a 39 Desoto so contact me Rich Hartung Desoto1939@aol.com
  24. Last night I received the 6 knobs that the gentleman in Florida is reproducing. I ordered these for my 39 Desoto. I received 2 door riser knobs, Throrrle, Lighted and wiper and the Shift knob. The overall color was very close to the original. The color of the original was a like more on the pink side his was a little darker. I can accept the difference in shading. Not this is a driver and not a show car. There were holes drilled in each knob to attach to the appropriate switch or end. None of the knobs were threaded. There was good detail in the window knob It has a spiral affect and it was of good detail. The three dash knobs were not painted as per my request. I will match to what I already am using on my car a creame color. The impression for the lettering was a little faint and the detail could have been more distict. I am hopeing that after applying the cream coloring to the knobs that the lettering with be more pronounced. Over all I feel he did a good job Again these are not NOS nor willthey ever be NOS quality. I am just happy to have extra knobs incase if mine break in the future. I have been looking for 23 years for knobs at Hershey and have only come across 2 NOS. The P15D25 knobs might be easir to acquire because of the numbers that were produced versus only some 30K Desoto's were made in 1939. I can send pictures if you would like to see his work up close. Again not perfect but respectfuly done by an amatuer. For me do try to do this would have cost me more in money and time. This is just my opinion and should not be used to make a decision to purchase these items. He does offer a refund if you are not satified. Most reproducers of items do not offer a refund after they have made you a custom item. Rich Hartung desoto1939@aol.com
  25. Young ed: I agree that I also do not like drilling ahole in the $20 Knob but this is the only game in town for me. The 39 Desoto knobs are impossible to find even at Hershey, I know since I have had this car for 23+ years and have only found two NOS knobs. For you that have the 46-48 cars there were more knobs produced and you have a better chnace of finding some NOS in the swwap meets. If I want to keep the car running and looking good then I have to take advantage of what is available. Sometimes we need to modify some of the reproduction items. Event the rubber that is being sold for the rear quarter swing out windows does not come in one single piece but comes in two pices and has to be cut to fit our cars some some modification is required. I am not questioning your comments but this is what I need to do for my individual car. Rich Hartung desoto1939@aol.com
