  1. Thats all great BN. Your car had been worked over and engine gone etc. So why not engine swap or even frame swap. Negativity on this topic, yes you will find a large majority on this site want stock flathead drivetrains. Heck why wouldn't they, this web forum was created to promote the flathead 6 engine. While they tolerate and even welcome modifications, expect not to have SBC transplants overly warmly welcomed. Its like on the HAMB cars newer than 1964 and other topics that are off topic or against the website rules Ryan will lock or delete at the drop of a hat. This site is pretty tolerant on V8 swaps, mods made with modern non mopar parts etc. But its still a Mopar flathead 6 forum at the end of the day. People can build and modify their cars as they choose and see fit. Just don't expect to get everyone agreeing with your choices, your likes and dislikes.
  2. Well then if thats what he has and wants to do then " heave ho" Good on him, get er done. Whichever way aint my decision I'm reckoning...
  3. Heretic, Schmeretic, the car is running and you are driving it. I have owned plenty of SBC powered vehicles nothing wrong them with. I still like 283 engines and owned at least 6. Your car is fine run it and enjoy doing brakies and burnouts..
  4. Yes your right, especially if you are not experienced in a swap. The HAMB is a wealth of info on this topic. Finding a good running flathead 6 is still doable and sometimes we get lucky. If he so chooses the find a decent flattie is anyone on here near the OP that has 1 for sale? Running an ad on your local " buy and sells", Craiglist, or Kijiji wanting 1 might turn up 1. At any rate its work and money involved. Many engine transplants on these cars have been done over the years. I have seen a ton of these threads over the years with the same advice and reactions. OP your car, you decide on which way to go and make it work for you...
  5. A good option, but easier said than done in many cases.
  6. Listen its your car, your cash, your choice as your the boss. Dont expect the masses on here to warm up too much on your SBC swap. Myself quite frankly dont care its not my car. Some happy with your decision?, how about that someone be you, cuz thats what counts. Yes a rebuild of a flathead 6 aint cheap but swapping in a V8 has its hidden and unexpected expenses too. The best source of support on this project is this, those who have successfully done the swap, have or still drive the car or truck. There are all kinds of armchair advisors on here, some have done these swaps and some start or never finish them. Some are still doing V8 or V6 swaps and have been doing them for years and the cars are never on the road, there never finished. Just remember its a Mopar Site dedicated to the Great Flathead engines and most on here support that idea only. I have no trouble with your ideas just follow through to completion, dont be a great starter and become a poor finisher. Don't be that type of guy! All the best and good luck.
  7. The only "Qualifier" I see is Mopar products, flatheads and V8s. Not Chevrolet, not Ford, not anything else mentioned. This is a Mopar site that was created for Flathead era cars and trucks. I do not support a non Mopar Theme base for either the truck or car boards. But would not necessarily oppose non Mopar such as Chevy 350 engine being used and discussed either. Just know its a Mopar Themed website. The HAMB and Hotrodders .com are dedicated to non specific manufacturers. GTK please keep the essence of this website Mopar as it always has been...
  8. We know who's in Charge on this project...
  9. Interesting, but looking at early Mustang and Volvos, this caliper still looks different than those. At any rate, hope someone can positively Identify the entire set-up, could end up being a nice alternative for a disc swap...
  10. No further questions, Your Honor, I rest my case..
  11. Kool and I dig the " salvaging" theme free and cheap is best. Have you asked your Wife if she will sleep in it?☮
  12. Your looking for HAMB type info
  13. While this may be a quick and easy extra dump hole it should be done properly. George Asche does them nicely into tru splits either cut in half or like mine truly divided but not cut. I like the look of the Langdon headers personally.
  14. Could this be a good low cost conversion option?
  15. Are you guys sure? Rock Auto sells the calipres cheap What about the cylindrical casting the hose attaches too. I dont see that on 1988 volvo calipres
  16. Either the cam duration and lift, or a "governed engine", for the combine use. Others have used engines right off combines in cars and trucks with no issues..
  17. Your is the semi auto M6 4 spd trans.
  18. I will have to find my charts. Yes they can vary a lot in throttle bore jetting and cfm. Small to quite big CFM wise for big trucks
  19. No big deal. You want a purist type site perhaps focussing on "restoration" check out the AACA Dodge truck sites possibly. You got a mixed bag of restored, OEM, modified and all out frame and powertrain upgrades on here. My C series Fargo is modified and would not care for pure stock But others want a showroom quailty resto job. At any rate think you will find this is the best game in town regarding old Dodge trucks.
  20. Couldn't agree more. 3 siamesed intake ports with each its own carb is quite efficient. 2 2bbl carbs could soak your 218.
  21. check out AACA sites. I own a C series truck and this site works for me. What are you hoping to achieve with a 1954 to 56 truck site? Besides the cab, nose and frame shape not much difference. You will be very hard pressed to find more knowledge on flathead powered cars and trucks than whats on this site ....good luck
  22. Yup i know that. But which trans? Fluid drive and M6 semi auto or fluid drive and regular 3 spd trans? Fluid drive is the fluid coupler between crank and trans...
  23. If the front clip is off it can be done and i have done this on a 47 chrysler just this way. Its lighter and shorter but about 125 lbs without the M6 trans or is your Royal a 3 spd and fluid drive? All front end sheet metal off should be doable. That friggin fluid drive bell and assembly is big and heavy too. Combined weight engine, fluid drive clutch assembly, and trans about 850 lbs Id bet. Dont over extend the boom on the lift...lol
  24. yup not sure why I said Stude...LOL
  25. Here is what mine sounds like with dual walker glasspacks. Ignore the cobbled together pipes. I hoping to have all new pipes run this spring dumping out on the right fide both pipes in front of rear fender.
