  1. Even in cold weather climates? My current setup ( dual carbs/ exhaust) from George Asche is not as good as my stock setup in cold weather until its good and warmed up.
  2. Well that doesnt make sense. Only thing that might be a limiting factor is this. The 236 has a 4 1/4 stroke and the 230 is 4 5/8. Did the 230 have more bottom end power? Perhaps your Isky cam sacrificed bottom end power for power higher in the RPM.band.
  3. Thanx for sharing this Dave. The 265 sounds like it was a beast...
  4. Well.the good news is for 99.97 % of us. These engines will be run at leisure and in warmer temps outdoors. No we dont have to go outside at 0530 and warm up the car at -30. At any rate the Slant 6 is listed #6 in the worlds 10 best engines, love em or hate em that's the facts. Our Flathead 6s were reputed to be real lousy starters in cold temps especially 0 or below. But those were different times 50 to 80 years back.
  5. Now thats interesting. So your vote is for the Beloved Flatheads. Flatheads are great powerplants..
  6. Options? Think this is still a Slant 6 and Chrysler flathead 6 thread. Is that Viper for your Dodge?
  7. Another option for posts on this thread could be. Who has swapped out a small displacement for a large say 250 or 265. Tell us how much more power and driveability pleasure this created.. I am hoping to rebuild my IND 265 this year and swap out the tired 228. I can hardly wait to see how much difference in power it might be. With a full 1/2 inch stroking it should be fun..
  8. Great stuff Guys keep.em coming. Also anyone can share there experiences on flathead Chrysler 6s versus slant 6s. Say the monster 265 performance compared to the more modern slant 6.
  9. Welcome aboard Randy. Your gonna love these old flatties
  10. Knuckle its a thread on slant 6s and lhead 6s please and thank you. I enjoy your stories so dont take it the wrong way...
  11. Oh I have driven a few. Sure they have more power than a stock slant 6. But we are comparing slants to lheads.. Not apples to grapefruits...lol
  12. Nope disagree that Teacher was afraid to blow that old Furd. That old Furd 352 did not make the top 10 list of best engines in the world...lol
  13. Did you have Long Haired Louise in the car..
  14. Heres what im doing this minute as im watching this thread. Doesnt thus look like fun...lol
  15. Me too Reg. And the look too. Hows that 251 in Old Yellar going these days?
  16. Yah i know but lets tell stories and share hop up secrets. I have a 1971 in the wings. For a future project. Or lets compare a slant 6 stock to a warmed up 265?
  17. Hey all For those of us who have owned both slant 6s and flathead 6s. Share your stories, comments, good times and bad. Ive owned a few slant 6s 225s 1 with a 1bbl carb the other a 2bbl carb. Both A904 transmissions neither super fast but tough reliable and peppy. Many articles discuss the evolution to slant from flat. The big change over head valves 6 intake ports and long runner manifolds. Lets have fun..
  18. Oh oh your gonna need to make more of these to sell in here...
  19. Good Stuff, MM Im hoping my 265 build yields me enough new power to quench the thirst....LOL This engine, a 265 from a Massey Combine, has a cam profile of .375 lift duration unknown. What could you tell me on this stock IND 265 cam, needs to be replaced or not for cruising and street use. I already have dual carbs and exhaust on my 228 its replacing, so it will be a nice mild build. I hope to get 150 HP and torque increase out of the deal....
  20. Question for MM? Can you give our members an idea how fast in both off the line mid range and top end the Fhead supercharged 31 Desoto is. How could it be compared to even a mild built 265 in a comparable sized vehicle. The 31 Desoto is 1 of my all time favorite go fast flattie 6s..
  21. Interesting. On the slants made the top 10 best engines of all time in the world. Durable bullet proof little buggers..
  22. Hemi Head? Very Interesting as Arty Johnston would say on " Laugh In".....
  23. Yes interesting. Having seen your Fhead conversions a good while ago and your 31 Desoto You tube vids. I wondered what the rocker arrangements looked like. You can count on my Order Placement just as soon as those winning numbers come through. Now here is another? On your Edgy aluminum heads, fine looking I might add. It has been rumoured the design or possibly the early design had a cooling issue. Is there any truth to this and if yes what design change has been improved to deal with this? I post this not to be combative but to gain more knowledge on your products.
  24. Its not too late clean her up, new gaskets seals. Maybe light honing if cyls if pistons out and new rings. Measure everything to be sure if apart
  25. Curious what makes you think you need valve guides?
