55 Fargo Posted December 18, 2006 Report Posted December 18, 2006 Hi all, here's a pic of a 1948 Chrysler Plymouth Dealership, not sure if this is a computer animated or if real where the dealership was located. The moderator on my Canadian 40s Chrysler website posted it so it may be from a Mopar dealership in Winnipeg Manitoba, but not so sure either. But it's a nice pic anyway...............Fred Quote
Justin Slingsby Posted December 18, 2006 Report Posted December 18, 2006 That is a cool pic. It is colorized and the interior is added in. Did anyone see the issue 33 of the Rodders Journal? It has some great colorized photos in it. There is something to be said about old colorized photos. Quote
Young Ed Posted December 18, 2006 Report Posted December 18, 2006 Didn't David Maxwell on this site do it? It sure looks familiar. Think he possibly had a few versions like one with that GM car replaced with a proper Mopar. Quote
55 Fargo Posted December 18, 2006 Author Report Posted December 18, 2006 Not sure where it's from, it really does look like this old Chrysler dealership, that used to be on Main Street in Winnipeg Manitoba, but I guess a lot of them did back then. I will find out from the mod on my other forum and post later...............Fred Quote
bob westphal Posted December 18, 2006 Report Posted December 18, 2006 Pretty cool '41 Cheby too! Quote
Brendan D25 Posted December 18, 2006 Report Posted December 18, 2006 That's the same photo that David Maxwell had on here quite a while ago. Fred, what is this Canadian Chrysler website you mentioned? Brendan. Quote
52B3B108 Posted December 19, 2006 Report Posted December 19, 2006 The buildings of old car dealerships are awesome. There is a dealership in Carroll, Iowa that is now sitting empty because they moved to an old KMart building where they have more room. The old building has decorative brick and loads of character but it was in the middle of downtown, as most usually were. If I could ever win the lottery I'd buy it and fill it full of Pilothouse trucks and other old MOPARS. I just know it'll eventually be altered into something indistinguishable. Quote
greg g Posted December 19, 2006 Report Posted December 19, 2006 This sampled from the county historic society's website. It is the Rustleholtz and Rossell show room shop. And the building today, still a Chrysler dealer ship though Jeep has replaced Plymouth. Quote
David Maxwell Posted December 19, 2006 Report Posted December 19, 2006 I have the original photo. It is black and white and I colorized it using Adobe PhotoShop. I played around with several version including one in which I replaced the Chevy with a Plymouth as was pointed out. The dealership was real. I'd have to dig it out, but I believe the dealership was in Ohio. It was stamped and dated by the original photographer on the back. Quote
T.Tom Meshingear Posted December 19, 2006 Report Posted December 19, 2006 Here is an accidental photo of Luke Motors the Chrysler/Plymouth dealer in New Orleans. The photographer was more interested in the streetcar but then what did he know about important photo subjects. There are a gazillion streetcar pix and I'm having trouble finding any photos of Luke's operation. Tom Quote
David Maxwell Posted December 19, 2006 Report Posted December 19, 2006 That would make an interesting colorization project. As I mentioned in an earlier post, I will be having my students focus on old Mopar photos for their colorization project in January. I would love to have more material to work with. If you or any other forum members would like to send me a pic, I can include it in the project and send you a digital copy of the finished work. Only thing is, I can't gaurantee the quality of each project. I have 150 students and their skill levels vary. Some will be really nice and others will come out... hmmm... I really can't say. Quote
T.Tom Meshingear Posted December 19, 2006 Report Posted December 19, 2006 David, I don't have the original. I pilfered that photo from the New Orleans Public Library's online photo collection. They have an original somewhere, maybe. A lot was lost after Katrina/Rita. Tom Quote
greg g Posted December 19, 2006 Report Posted December 19, 2006 I like the Super G Constellation in the billboard. Chicago and Southern Airways morphed into Delta, now they may morph into US Scareways. Quote
David Maxwell Posted December 19, 2006 Report Posted December 19, 2006 So much thought given to the more immediate and important issues surrounding victims. The hurt will go on for some time. My great grandmother and grandmother were born in New Orleans. My great grandmother was abandoned in Orleans Parish and raised by the nuns in the convent. Fortunately, I secured copies of all her original documents long ago. Her birth certificate is written completely in French. I had our French teacher, at the school I teach at, translate it for me. She had a home in the French Quarter until she moved to Virginia after receiving my great grandfather's Confederate Veteran's pension, compliments of Governor Huey Long. $3500 during the depression was an outrageous sum and she bought a home in Norfolk VA with it. T.Tom Meshingear Posted December 19, 2006 Report Posted December 19, 2006 David, I did another search for Luke Motor Co. and found this link to a 1964 photo from the Historical New Orleans Collection. The viewer window allows you to enlarge it for a more detailed view. http://louisdl.louislibraries.org/cdm4/item_viewer.php?CISOROOT=/FBC&CISOPTR=403&REC=7 Tom Quote
