Bob_Koch Posted June 26, 2008 Report Posted June 26, 2008 we're considered good enough to join the luxury vehicles now. look at the price tag. TodFitch Posted June 27, 2008 Report Posted June 27, 2008 For that much I'd expect the spare tire to match the pattern of those on the ground. And maybe matching engine number too. The number shown sure does not look like it starts with a "T" to me. Does the ribbing on a truck floor map run from side to side or front to rear? On the 1930s cars its front to rear and that makes the one in the picture look odd to me. Quote
Allen I. Posted June 27, 2008 Report Posted June 27, 2008 I think it looks odd with the rear fenders and the stake bed. Quote
Merle Coggins Posted June 27, 2008 Report Posted June 27, 2008 Good thing it's "priced to sell" What happened to the original bed? All that nice "restoration" work and they can't get a correct set of matched knobs? And I agree, it's not the original engine. What did an "L230" come out of, industrial? Merle Quote
Don Coatney Posted June 27, 2008 Report Posted June 27, 2008 The bed is listed as a "standard" bed. I guess that means a stake bed. Also under the heading Audio/Vidio it lists a "factory system" AM/FM. I did not see a radio but there does appear to be a speaker. I would like to own this truck but fourty grand worth. Quote
Merle Coggins Posted June 27, 2008 Report Posted June 27, 2008 The speaker grill would be standard, but if there's no radio there wouldn't be a speaker behind it. Also, would there be a factory AM/FM radio back in '48? I think not. I don't see where it says "standard" bed, but it is listed as "standard cab". However it apears to have a Deluxe cab. It has two sun visors and it looks like it may also have electric wipers. Quote
Reg Evans Posted June 27, 2008 Report Posted June 27, 2008 I like the rear fenders too but think it would look better to my eye if the bed was about 2" higher off the frame so the fenders could be centered above the wheels when unloaded. The bed is home made and the running boards for a factory stake bed would have ended at the back of the cab. Shouldn't the seat and other soft interior parts be dark brown ? Front bumper should be black. The heater was maroon in color from the factory and those controls aren't right. I think I'll drive my truck to Utah and enter it in the next Concours d' Elegance. I wonder what class Y includes ? Custom 1948 blue Dodge trucks maybe. Maybe I'm just jealous. Quote

It states regular cab not standard cab. 1948 Dodge Pickup Truck 1/2 Ton Truck Regular Cab Standard Bed FULLY RESTORED SHOW CAR, ONE OWNER, IMMACULATE VEHCILE Quote
Don Coatney Posted June 27, 2008 Report Posted June 27, 2008 Here is a tragic but interesting article on the evoloution of FM radio. http://www.cybercollege.com/frtv/frtv020.htm , Quote
Allen I. Posted June 27, 2008 Report Posted June 27, 2008 Well' date=' you guys can argue the correctness of the restoration all you want. That's still one neat truck and I would not kick it out of my garage or driveway. But..........I would not be willing to pay that kind of price for it.[/quote']Amen to that. I did not mean to sound negative. Just noted that it looked odd to me. $40K should get correct (or even just matching knobs) on the dash though. Quote
Vazlov1949 Posted June 27, 2008 Report Posted June 27, 2008 Funny they even call it a "regular" cab. Sure did their homework, NOT! Quote
Vintrader Posted June 27, 2008 Report Posted June 27, 2008 Not near as pretty but it is an original stakebed. I still have not figured out where to keep this truck? Dutch Quote
Reg Evans Posted June 27, 2008 Report Posted June 27, 2008 Hey....only $4000 more in some paint and parts and you can ask 40K for yours and it'll be more original. Anyone have an original stake bed for a 116" wheel base 3/4 ton? Quote
Allen I. Posted June 27, 2008 Report Posted June 27, 2008 I know where one is rotting away. Some parts might be good. I'll take pics when I go to snap some of that bigger truck I saw last weekend. I may have to bring a chain saw with me. Quote
MBF Posted June 28, 2008 Report Posted June 28, 2008 Dutch-I like the looks of yours a lot better. Now the other sheetmetal on your rackbody for only $20K and its still way outa my range. The day these things start going for $39K on a regular basis, I know where there is a 52 rack body that will be for sale too. Thanks Barret Jackson! Mike Quote

Mike Mike, I saw your truck in Rhinebeck last weekend but could not find you? Dutch Quote
MBF Posted June 29, 2008 Report Posted June 29, 2008 Hey Dutch-likewise-I took a couple of pics of yours and was walking around the show area and greeting exhibitors most of the day. Spent a good portion of the remaining time in the orange registration tent. Sorry I missed you. Mike Quote
