Lou Earle Posted June 20, 2008 Report Posted June 20, 2008 Scavenged some 15 inch rims off my 48 junker- so far it has given up a great motor to convertible 4 good rims, good headlight switch, foam rubber layered seat, perfect hood I got my 300 bucks out of it easily and got a lot to go- wire brushed them put on Tim's favorite rusty metal primer thinned with 20 percent medium reducer and sprayed on. Next day mixed up derusto green and black(gloss) to close color of car and shot the rims with that thinned again about 20 percent with reducer-worked great. Then off to wally world for 4 205 x75x 15's- 65 bucks each including tax etc.(205 16 's run $119 plus shipping each- thats why I changed!!) Now on car. Decided I like keeping this car original looking- remember 6 volt and 12 volt system and a/c- so I installed what I cal and my dad called statz rims on-the old gal. They looked good of Fred Astaire's Black dancing shoes so why not on my tires? What ya think?? [/img] Quote
David Maxwell Posted June 21, 2008 Report Posted June 21, 2008 And that would be a typical look right off the lot in `46 - `48. Quote
Oldguy48 Posted June 21, 2008 Report Posted June 21, 2008 Looks great! I may rethink the idea of using wide whites on my P15. Quote
Niel Hoback Posted June 21, 2008 Report Posted June 21, 2008 Since that is what is supposed to be on there, they look perfect. But then I am predujiced. Quote
Normspeed Posted June 21, 2008 Report Posted June 21, 2008 That's a real good look with the blackwalls. Car looks great. So does Niel's 2 door. Quote
Don Coatney Posted June 23, 2008 Report Posted June 23, 2008 Looks good Lou; Any takers on a new owner for this car? Quote
Tim Frank Posted June 23, 2008 Report Posted June 23, 2008 Lou, I lost the train of your description. You painted the rims a green to match the car, but where does all the white exposure come from? (does look great though!) Rgds, Tim Quote
kevinanderson Posted June 23, 2008 Report Posted June 23, 2008 Lou, your car is a twin to mine, except i have skirts and your paint is nice and shiney. I put a band of color around the inside circumference on my spats so about an inch of color shows around the hubcap. Quote
David Maxwell Posted June 24, 2008 Report Posted June 24, 2008 ...and most of the 1946-49 pics of P15s with their original wheel treatments located in my Photobucket "40s 50s Photos" folder, the simulated whitewalls are much like Kevin's description except that the inch or so area would be painted black on the plastic whitewall inserts. I have a set with original Mopar instructions sticker still on them. Note in the second picture that the black area is larger than 1 inch, but that part of this is covered by the hubcap when installed. steveplym Posted June 24, 2008 Report Posted June 24, 2008 Kind of off topic in this thread, but what color were the wheels on P-15's originally? Body color or black? Quote
David Maxwell Posted June 24, 2008 Report Posted June 24, 2008 ...with pinstriping a variety of colors depending upon body color. See chart under GTK's info link. Quote
David Maxwell Posted June 24, 2008 Report Posted June 24, 2008 Sorry, had to quote myself again lol. ...with pinstriping a variety of colors depending upon body color. See chart under GTK's info link. Quote
Niel Hoback Posted June 24, 2008 Report Posted June 24, 2008 The wheel covers I have on mine are aftermarket and area all white. The box they came in said fits 1949 Plymouth. I will paint the edges to make them look better, but I need suggestions as to what color. The car is close to chevron blue. I also have a set of 16" metal covers that have a chrome ring arount the center. They look nice but I can't use them. Quote
David Maxwell Posted June 24, 2008 Report Posted June 24, 2008 ...if I were you, I would have a paint shop match your car's color and use that. The only reason they used black was so that they only had to make one version. The wheel covers I have on mine are aftermarket and area all white. The box they came in said fits 1949 Plymouth. BobT-47P15 Posted June 24, 2008 Report Posted June 24, 2008 Ever notice how it starts out so simple -- the white trim rings. Then it gets into details, like-- some were black around the center and some were not. What color were P15 wheels??? (different on Delux than Spec Delux). What color were the stripes??? That's part of what makes this forum interesting and informative..... inquiring minds want to know and so they ask. Answers are usually forthcoming..... Cool. Quote
Niel Hoback Posted June 25, 2008 Report Posted June 25, 2008 Blue was my first thought and that is what it will be. I guess all I needed was somebody to confirm it for me. But then, 1/2" of red,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,, no no, blue it is. Quote
steveplym Posted June 25, 2008 Report Posted June 25, 2008 Thanks for the response David. I've got to paint the wheels on my car after I finish the paint job so I wondered what color would be best. Mine is a special deluxe so body color would be correct. I personally like the wheels body color anyway. Had thoughts of black wheels, but I think I'll stick with the blue. Quote
