38plymouth Posted April 22, 2008 Report Posted April 22, 2008 I noticed with the warmer weather my engine detonates sometimes going up hills. I want to back the timing down a little but I don't remember which way to turn the distributer. I should turn it counter clockwise right? Quote
38plymouth Posted April 22, 2008 Author Report Posted April 22, 2008 Darn, I had it backwards, thank you. Quote
38plymouth Posted April 22, 2008 Author Report Posted April 22, 2008 I'm not really sure about the gas. It didn't detonate with the gas in it from last year. I filled it up last week and noticed it doing it a little, last night it did it alot going up a hill. Quote
greg g Posted April 22, 2008 Report Posted April 22, 2008 Prpbably still winter blend. From what I read some where, we will know when they change it as the price will shoot up "due to supply and demand" till the summer blend is refined and in the pipelines. They have a excuse for everything. On my trip to the DMV this morning I saw prices from 3.47 to 3.69. Cost me 25 bucks for lawnmower gas. Quote
38plymouth Posted April 22, 2008 Author Report Posted April 22, 2008 I get pissed every time I see people buying gas at a Mobil station when it's always 10 cents a gallon cheaper at a station across the street. Why would even pull in there and pay more when you don't have to? Quote
greg g Posted April 22, 2008 Report Posted April 22, 2008 Those are the same folks who put premium in when they don't need it, can't play golf without their NIKE Windshirt, Big Bertha Driver, Pinnacle Ultra testosterone golfballs, Agusta National hat and tiger woods boxers. They do it because they can...... Quote

Why would even pull in there and pay more when you don't have to? I fuel up at Mobil stations because that's what we have for company fuel cards. If I fueled up somewhere else I'd have to pay for it myself. Quote

Why would even pull in there and pay more when you don't have to? A lot of people don't believe it, but there actually is a difference in additive packages in different brands of gasoline. I've always used Chevron, and felt very vindicated when they were the only gasoline that didn't have to be reformulated to meet the newest European gasoline standard, which was all about having sufficient detergents to keep fuel injectors clean. If it will keep my commute car's injectors clean, should be pretty good in my Carter-Webers as well! The El Cheapo stuff will burn as well as Chevron, but they will be buying injector cleanings before I ever consider it. Marty Quote
38plymouth Posted April 23, 2008 Author Report Posted April 23, 2008 I don't believe one gas stations fuel is any better than the one down the road. I have never had any fuel related issue with any car I've owned. In fact nobody in my family ever has either. My suburban has almost 200,000 miles on it and it runs perfect. I use the cheapest gas I can find and I use nothing but Walmart synthetic. All gasoline has to meet minimum standards. Quote

Hess gas goes thru like water and mileage sucks. Sunoco runs rough and the Independents are hit and miss with quality. my 2c Quote
builtfercomfort Posted April 23, 2008 Report Posted April 23, 2008 I have heard that there is just one gasoline refinery on the west coast and almost all California gas comes from the same refiner - and that the various brands will swap bulk loads of gas around (around the country) to keep transportation costs down. Dodgeb4ya Posted April 24, 2008 Report Posted April 24, 2008 Commodity gas= Arco, Costco ,Safeway, and others-no blend additives . I use Chevron or Shell- if you don`t use a quality fuel you just might end up putting Bon Ami additive package in the tank too! Old 50`s and 60`s gasoline smelled so good! Bob Quote
