Rodney Bullock Posted February 22, 2008 Report Posted February 22, 2008 I have been looking at the different models made from mopar for 48,49,50. The 49 Chrysler has some great trim and is very nice lines, the one I saw on Country clasics website has truly great interior and exterior designs. I think that maybe I might wait to get one for myself. You guy's with these cars have a one up on some of us. These cars use 15 inche wheels that radials can be used on, the power of the motors make them great drivers in stock form and best of all the body construction is close to modern technology. Everybody with these cars please continue to share pic's with us and keep up the good work:D I am under the impression that a Chrysler had a straight 8 is that right? Quote
Young Ed Posted February 22, 2008 Report Posted February 22, 2008 Rodney until 51 they had straight 6 or 8s. Starting in 51 the straight 8 was replaced with the 331 hemi v8. Quote
CWebster Posted February 22, 2008 Report Posted February 22, 2008 Depends on the model....I have a 49 Chrysler Windsor and it has the Spitfire I6, my uncle has a 49 Chrysler New Yorker and it has the I8. From my service manual the Model #'s C-46, C-47, C-49, and C-50 we're I8's and Model #'s C-45 and C-48 are I6's. Chris Quote
Plymouthy Adams Posted February 22, 2008 Report Posted February 22, 2008 finding a Chrysler straight 8 is far and few between..the six was so smooth and powerful they performed to the level of the 8..I have an issue of Motor Trend (I think it was that mag) where the Plymouth 6 ran circle around the Pontiac straight 8...well maybe not run circles but beat it all around... Reg Evans Posted February 22, 2008 Report Posted February 22, 2008 Hey Tim....that reminds me......My older brother who owned a red 48 Pontiac vert with a straight 8 was always pissed when his best friend who owned a 50 Plymouth fastback would pull away from him around town and especially on hills. This was back in 1959. He finally got even and in 61 bought a 53 Corvette. Quote
Rodney Bullock Posted February 23, 2008 Author Report Posted February 23, 2008 C Webster, Your car is a fine example of what I am talking about, you can tell a great designed car when you look at your rear tail light assembly, that is extravegant. You also can tell when the rear window has chrome around it from the factory. I have been going over some pic's that I have of some junkyards that I visited many years ago. It goes to show you how you can grow as a lover of fine cars. When I was building my car I had such a narrow mind. I saw things with such beauty but did not get it. I just walked by it without truly seeing the cars. I was looking at a car that a guy just wanted to give me, it was a chrsyler 47 and because it was a 4dr I did not want it. What a mistake:mad: those opps. are long gone now. Shel Do remember when I was trying to get those parts from the guy on route 6? There were 2 49's there and he just did not want to give up on the parts. Now the place is a cow pasture, what a waste. You know Tim, that's not the first time I heard that, the pontiac was a great car however that straight 8 was very slow on the take off, I fix a guy's pontiac by replacing his vacume advance, after that he had a pretty good take off. JerseyHarold Posted February 23, 2008 Report Posted February 23, 2008 All this talk about '50 Chryslers brought back a memory..... In the early seventies my friend's mother owned a 4-door '50 Chrysler...loaded with hydraulic power windows and several other options. It was in the family since new, and was wrecked and repaired at some point (a relative of theirs actually died in the collision). My friend and I went to different colleges and I met up with him during the summer of our freshman year. I asked what happened to the Chrysler, and he told me it needed a battery so his mother sold it for $50.!! I was very bummed..... Quote
mackster Posted February 23, 2008 Report Posted February 23, 2008 a few more... This chrysler were ahead of their time in style and elegance love this big boats! Quote
