Good point on the silver. The bumper on my pickup is supposed to be argent. Black was easier though :)

Allan' date=' Tim is correct. The red color on the trim is not mentioned in the books as to what color red, or a paint code number. Someone mentioned they had an NOS stoplight bezel with the original paint still intact to take the color from. However, even that one is not the correct red now either because it has to be faded from all those years, even if wrapped up. Based on that, even a POC show judge is just guessing at the correct red.

As long as they paint the letters red on the repops that Don mentioned, I think they will look right. Of course, the POC will probably knock off points for the car being 12 volt in a judging contest anyway, so it's really a moot point.

Like I said before, I probably wouldn't buy the new LED tail lights or stoplight for two reasons. One, don't want to change over to 12 volts. Two, mine are all nice chrome and don't need replacing now. But..........for those who do change over to 12 volt and need replacement bezels, the repops sound like the way to go.[/quote']

Norm,

I know that the books don't mention the color, but I do think that they may have used the same color of enamel as the cars they were painting (maybe in the case of the red cars switching color codes just to make em different. As for the POC, well, I'm not a purist, so I don't really care about the points, but if they are as bad as the vette guys, well, they should know their colors... as for the 12 volts, I will be going to 12 volts and have every intention of get leds for all my lights..... I might even cast my own bezels...

Tim,

As for the formulations, I know what you mean... due to a friend of mine, I have access to the dupont site and when looking for a certain "metallic blue pearl", under the same name I found over 10 different formulations.... everyone puts their 2c worth in..... just to be different.

Allan,

Those Corvette guys are really just like us. I've been going to the same barber for almost 40 years now and he's in the vette club. His is a newer vette (around 2000 I think). Over the past few years he's complained about the cost of the special tires (about $500 each), exhaust cost, etc. They too will look for cheaper ways to do things. Of course, just like us, you will get the real purest that will keep everything original.

For Tim & Don: Now, if you were my barber you would see the coupe out and about many times. He sees it in the nice weather almost everytime I get a haircut.:P

Actually, he lives a good 15 miles or more from me. However, his shop is only about 5 or 6 miles away from my house. But.............point still remains, the coupe is not in the driveway when he sees it.:P

Tim,

I don't need to win. I already won.

Now, here's a for what it's worth. While my barber has seen my coupe many times, (including when I first bought it running on 3 1/2 cylinders at his shop), I have never seen his Corvette at the shop. Only car he drives to the shop is his Toyota Camery. Like me, he only drives his Corvette when he feels like it for pleasure. That's why they are called hobby cars.

Norm..you got me beat..mine is still apart, runs, can be driven, insured and licensed..just got the doghouse apart...lol...weather has not been very supportive of paint and body lately and when it was..I had other fish to fry..

Tim, that's also why I haven't got to the minor outside body repairs I want to do. Something always seems to come up that I need to do first, so the body work just keeps getting put off. At least the car is altogether and I can drive it when I want though.

The quality of his chrome parts appears to be great. I wonder if he would consider selling just the bezels. They look as if they would work with the stock lenses and, without the LED system, might be cheaper and better than getting old bezels rechromed.
