Pearsebln Posted May 9, 2024 Report Posted May 9, 2024 How do I fit the cowl vent sealing rubber. I ordered it from Andy bernbaum and can't see any way of gluing it in. I put it in once and closed the cowl vent, it was much too high. I can't imagine that this is the way it should be. Has anyone used this seal before? Does it compress over time? Quote
Sniper Posted May 9, 2024 Report Posted May 9, 2024 I replaced that seal in my 51. Use weatherstripping glue. Took two of us to set it in place because once you touch the glue together it will be there, forever, lol. I removed the vent itself to cleanup the old remains, apply the glue and set the new seal in place. Had no issues with it being too tall though. But I am pretty sure I used the Metro seal, not sure who makes Andy's seal. Quote
DJK Posted May 9, 2024 Report Posted May 9, 2024 I used AB seal, glued it with weather trim cement as Sniper said, it will compress over time. Quote
soth122003 Posted May 9, 2024 Report Posted May 9, 2024 I pulled the cowl vent and used Andy B's seal and contact cement. It worked great and was a little high but was not a detriment. Make sure to clean the seal area real good (dremel tool with the little wire wheel) and while you have it out, make sure to clean and check the drain tube area as well. Like Sniper said make sure you place the seal right the first time, cause there is no second chance without a lot of cleaning and the seal will tear removing it if you place it wrong. Joe Lee Quote
RobertKB Posted May 9, 2024 Report Posted May 9, 2024 I have replaced vent seals on three cars. Personally, I think it’s one of the crappiest jobs to do on an old car! 1 Quote
