Ivan_B Posted October 30, 2023 Report Share Posted October 30, 2023 (edited) I was doing an "engine running in the dark" test, and noticed that all of the plugs are sort of glowing blue in the dark. The glow appears to be "ticking" together with the engine RPM... There is no arching, or anything like that. It looks like the glow is coming from inside the wire boots. The sparks are new, the wires are not new but seems to be performing according to specs. ? Is this normal? Can someone please take a look at your engine in the dark? desoto1939 Posted October 30, 2023 Report Share Posted October 30, 2023 how old are the sparkplug wires? sounds as if the wires are leaking and you are getting the arching. Go to your loal auto supply and get several feet of sparkplug wires with the ends and the caps and make new individual wires. Do one wire at a time. So pull the number one wire for the number 1 spark plug. put the end on the end that goes into the cap. then run the wire up through the holder and then cut it to the proper length for number 1 plug put the end button on the wire then the metal end crimped to the wire then install the wire. Do this then for #2-6 and also the main wire from the end of the coil to the dizzy cap. Also make sure the top of the cap is clean without any corrosion where each wire connect to the cap. Ivan_B Posted October 31, 2023 Author Report Share Posted October 31, 2023 (edited) Okay, it must be that coronal discharge, mentioned earlier. I pulled the boots off the plugs, checked the connectors, the glow is coming from where the porcelain goes into the plug's body down the engine. It is not coming from the plug/wire junction. Looks like a false alarm ? Tried to film it, but the camera would not pick it up. Probably similar to what's going on at the Kamioka Observatory ?
