Hi guys , I have a annoying intermittent miss when Im at constant speed not during acceleration.  After some investigation I found I had some play in the distributor, suspecting the bushings I began  dismantling to replace them but found they are fine it's actually the cam stop plate that's lose on the shaft . Are these available to replace? or has anyone fitted bushings to the cam stop plate it's self ?  Thanks in advance

What model number is the distributor? There are a wide variety that all basically interchange, but don't all share internal parts.

Are there any signs of galling or wear on the top of the shaft that the cam sits on?

There is a letter code stamped on the cam stop, you can look for a replacement,  but it can be difficult to find NOS ones.

Do you have an idea of which part is actually worn, the shaft or the stop plate bore?  Do you have the spec. for the shaft diameter or the cam stop plate bore?  I don't but was thinking maybe the ID of the stop plate bore could be knurled and reamed (like done to valve guides) to make a tighter fit on the shaft.... OR....the shaft could be built up with braze/ silver solder and turned to a larger diameter to make a tighter fit in the stop plate bore.  Just a thought. Regards.

I have 2 extra distributors 4011 and 4101, both cam stops have no play in them. If you can't source one locally, let me know. Not sure what shipping would be from the USA.

what is a cam stop? Are you talking about the part the cam lobe that is responsible for the opening of the points when it makes contact with the  high point when the dissy is spinning?

Thank you for posting the picture of the cam & stop plate. Since there are holes inthe plate I would assume that there is some type of bolt and nut that holds this unit tight inthe dizzy. Also since there is a spacer could the spacer be missing on the original posters question or could the cam stop plate just need to be tightened?  I wuld also assume that these stop plates would be the same in our older dizzy since they were al made by Autolite and have a 38 degree cam angle.

The holes are for the pins from the weights to to locate to control mehcanical advance hence this piece is not screwed down a small spring clip holds I down from the top . It's not the up and down movement that causes the problem it's side to side its the wear between the shaft and the cam stop plate

So a guy with a lathe may be able to bore and bush it, otherwise you're up shat creek. I'm glad you mention this, because now it's on my mind. I'll have to check my own dizzy now.

Yeah went to a engineer today it's not looking good replacement is my best option

I have seen these units on ebay but you will need to know your original part number and or autolite part number.  My Autolite catalog does not list these parts so i can not provide you with any cross reference numbers.
