Chris-R Posted October 1, 2023 Report Posted October 1, 2023 I reassembled my Carter BB after stripping it for cleaning and putting in new dashpot plungers/needle valve, etc. and put some fuel into the system. On the plus side my rebuilt fuel pump works ?, but I've now got petrol leaking out of the throttle shaft at both ends - a steady drip, drip, about twice every three seconds. It wasn't doing this before I dismantled it, which makes me think I've reassembled the thing incorrectly or perhaps even left something out... can anyone experienced in these things advise me please? Many thanks as usual! 1 Quote
FarmerJon Posted October 1, 2023 Report Posted October 1, 2023 Did you remember to install the little "U" clip that holds the float in place? Did you check/adjust the float height? Quote
Sniper Posted October 1, 2023 Report Posted October 1, 2023 Did you verify the float settings and float operation? Usually, when I see this either the float is improperly set allowing fuel to over flow or the needle isn;t shutting off the flow. Occasionally it will be too high fuel pressure overcoming the needle Quote
Ivan_B Posted October 1, 2023 Report Posted October 1, 2023 Or the float is full of gas... Either way, most likely it is overflowing. You can try cranking the engine without the carb cover (holding the float pin in place) to confirm whether or not it actually stops the fuel flow. Quote
Chris-R Posted October 1, 2023 Author Report Posted October 1, 2023 Thanks all. I was careful not to bend the float adjustment when disassembling/reassembling, with a view to ensuring/hoping the level remained correct. However the replacement needle valve assembly I installed may be dimensionally a little different to the original which could affect the level at which the float shuts off fuel. I'll try putting the old needle assembly back in and take it from there. Quote
Cannuck Posted October 1, 2023 Report Posted October 1, 2023 My carb was doing the same thing after a rebuild also with the different style of needle assemble . I solved the problem by adjusting the float less gas in the bowl. I also wrapped the fuel line with aluminized heat shroud from the fuel pump to the carb. 1 Quote
