DavidJose1 Posted July 21, 2023 Report Posted July 21, 2023 Have you guys ever swapped to a more updated and smaller race steering wheel? Got the big old one and love it but I’ve been working out again and legs are too big to slide under it as easy! I love the old look but realize I have to do something different Quote
Sniper Posted July 21, 2023 Report Posted July 21, 2023 (edited) There is a reason the steering wheel is big, leverage. You need it with manual steering. Or bigger guns, lol. I can one hand my steering but my son cannot, yet. That said, I have a grant adapter I think will work, but haven't tried it yet. I am not looking for a smaller wheel, just one that isn't all cracked or stupid expensive. Edited July 21, 2023 by Sniper 1 Quote
DavidJose1 Posted July 21, 2023 Author Report Posted July 21, 2023 I am 6’4” 250. I had a race wheel on my big block volare and wife even drove it! You got pic of adapter? Quote
soth122003 Posted July 21, 2023 Report Posted July 21, 2023 I'm 6'7" 220lbs and I feel you pain on the legs issue. Joe Lee 1 Quote
Sniper Posted July 21, 2023 Report Posted July 21, 2023 It looks like any other Grant three bolt adapter. https://www.summitracing.com/parts/GRT-4310 Quote

Freshman year 5'7, sophmore 5'11, junior 6'3, senior 6;7. But i never was more than 150lbs. Stringbean, beanpole, strech, to name a few. Still got the big wheel in the car but thanks to bench seats I can spread my knees a bit and not have the problem of wheel jamming against my legs. (It also help mansplaining things. gives me a justification) Joe Lee 1 Quote

Los_Control Posted July 21, 2023 Report Posted July 21, 2023 Just now, Sniper said: I don't know, that's why I said I think it will work, have to test it first I think it would probably work .... I wonder how long the same steering box-shaft was used? I'm like you, just do not want to deal with a badly cracked wheel thats missing a few chunks. I can make it better & paint it ..... too many ribs & lines in the wheel, I could never restore it to look like it should. Same time do not want to spend a small fortune to replace it. 1 Quote
DavidJose1 Posted July 21, 2023 Author Report Posted July 21, 2023 I already turned the car twin turbo and made it different and I know it will never be what it was meant to be with a normal body and all that so I’m like even though gigantic steering wheel looks cool, it’s not serving me to make a good running, fast and customized monster! I do wanna keep cost down too if I can, though I don’t mind spending anymore I don’t want to if I don’t have to lol Quote
DavidJose1 Posted July 24, 2023 Author Report Posted July 24, 2023 Have any of you guys changed the steering all together or used a later gear box with better adjustment? Quote
Sniper Posted July 24, 2023 Report Posted July 24, 2023 There was a guy who recently detailed his swap to a center steer rack and pinion setup, lot's of ery good info there. 1 Quote
Solution DavidJose1 Posted August 5, 2023 Author Solution Report Posted August 5, 2023 I actually tapped the old steering wheel and turned it into a hub, then drilled and attached the new wheel 2which I drilled out to it! Now I went 79 on the freeway with 373 8.8 Ford gears. Felt good but a little wobble going, bolts not all there and I need something to fill up space of steering wheel shaft to bracket that holds it under dash Quote
